I think Inglourious Basterds (although it was apparently a remake) was well done! Quentin Tarantino's movies are almost always like that. We don't seem to have a problem watching violence portrayed in a comedic way. Then most of us can laugh at it. For the most part, I agree with the comments above of "deejay" about the movie. I think AVATAR was the most original concept this year, except for the fact that it had "Aliens' " Ripley's robot you can walk in and lots of other similarities thanks to it being a James Cameron movie.
I think Inglorious Basterds was a joke played on his fans by Quentin Tarantino. I was really upset by the incredible lack of creditability of the screen-play and I was very disappointed by the 'loose with history ending.'.
AVATAR has already been voted as the #1 movie at the box office sales for 7 weeks straight. It takes two times to see this movie properly... once to get the sci-fi style plot down and once to visit the planet of Pandora. Think I'll see it a third time at the IMAX. I need to get back to Pandora.
Inglourious Basterds has the most originality along with entertainment value. The SAG award recognized the excellent acting and we need to applaud the risk taken with the use subtitles for the "foreign" languages.
For me it added so much realism to hear the mother tongues spoken.
Avatar was visually spectacular. Hurt Locker was stunning in it's sparseness. Inglorious Basterds was perfectly executed. But for me, Up was the best picture of the year. Glad to see it on the list.
