Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie pledge to support Haiti![]() testing captions Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt issued a joint statement on Tuesday night expressing their deep sorrow at the widespread loss of life that occurred in the Haiti earthquake. The pair, who have visited the island in recent years to assist musician Wyclef Jean’s charity Yele Haiti, said, “We are devastated by the news from Haiti. We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter.” |

Haiti thanks you. HOWEVER, in the true spirit of giving, do it anomynously instead of reminding the world of just how irrelevant you two are.

I agree 100%. How about helping their own country first. Our country is in the crapper because we always seem to help everyone but ourselves!!"
Our country is in the craps because ambitious people lend money to other people, who doesn't make enough money to buy homes they cannot afford even if they worked all their lifes. How about reading the news once in a while.
For the clueless person, who feels the need to tell Pitt/Jolie where to donate their money, it's well known that Pitt/Jolie is helping New Orleans citizens affected by Hurricane Katrina. As a matter of fact, people in the community have suggested Brad Pitt run for Mayor of N.O. Do your homework before making such statements. By the way, hope you've donated or volunteered recently...
To Marie and all the other people that probably has never got out of their hometown:
You are bunch of ignorants, that unfortunatelly, had everything handed to you. You never experienced difficulty but having to go work every morning. Try and own a passaport next time you speak. Travel to sub-developed countries that truly can't even county on their governments for basic needs. You people are lame. Thank God there are well traveled people in this world who actually see an inch after their own noses.
How can you be negative about Brad and Angelina wanted to help. It's there choice of helping others. It's there money and there choice to help other foreign countries!
Thomas, if you are so sick of hollywood, how and why do you know so much about the happenings that are going on there??????duh
Well if you look at news on a daily basis than you would know that they have donated over 5 million dollars in the US in 2009. Look it up. If you have a problem on how other people spend their money than you should make your own and donate it as you see fit.
Bradley and Marie
This is about people that need help. It is not about who slept with who or the U.S. These people have nothing. I don't know what that feels like. Neither do you. Grow up. For all the people that are not selfish please help. I would like to think that people in this world don't want to see children suffer.
I'd like to know if CNN has donated money or set up funds for Haiti. Does anyone know if they have?
it is really appalling when people criticize others for helping. I don't care what the reason is behind their helping. There are many people who do things for more than just "because it's the right thing to do" but does that make the help or money less needed? No. I can bet that if the area you lived in was devastated by some disaster whether it be natural or man made, those of you criticizing would be begging for help from wherever you could get it and I am sure that if Brad and Angelina were there to offer their dollars you would not turn it down. There is plenty of charity going on in the U.S. and if you don't donate your time or money to help when you can, you should not complain about what is or is not happening here in the U.S.
Look, they have moved to New Orleans, help all over the world and they are right to pledge their help in any means they deem necessary. Our country is a 100% better than Haiti. Even our worst situation pale to compare, if New Orleans is flooded, we can move to Dallas, LA, etc. Where do the Haitians go?
They do help the USA you moron! Have you ever heard of New Orleans?
You in their right mind can compare America to Haiti?
I agree with the majority of the people in that Marie is the most insensitive person ever, next to Pat Robertson!! As someone said, America's the richest country on the planet, and yet, people are always expecting a hand out. Why not get off your rump and do some work? Why should Brad and Angelina give money to the American people who are so damn ungrateful? Yes, we made be the ones to support them in movies and such, but we are the first ones to cut them down. I mean really, we can't have it both ways. Just like anyone else, they have every right to spend their money the way they chose. I'm sure you (Marie) wouldn't be so generous with your money if the roles were reverse. How about this, I challenge you to put your money where your mouth is. Instead of you griping about other people donating their time and efforts to assist others in a difficult situation, why don't you volunteer for an organization in your neighborhood? You talk about "them" not doing anything for the American people, ask yourself, What am I doing to help my fellow man?
I can remember when ANGELINA kept a vile of blood around her neck ! What an ambassador for children ! And she went on and had an affair with a married man – what a saint......cant wait til her children read about that one ! I think this act of donating is guilty money ! New Orleans is still in bad shape and there they go helping another country....I am sure they will get two kids out of this one from that country.....thank goodness Billy Bob ran and so did Jen.....
Traci, i'm sorry to hear that YOU served in any part of the United States of America's Armed Forces. And I am so happy to hear that you no longer do. There is a higher force, huh? Let people that truly care to honor, respect and protect, and that LOVE their country and are proud to be a part and are willingly to possibly lose their lives so you can make such ridiculous remarks.
THE DEVistation, the horror, the lack of medicine and much needed equipment!!!! I've always had a nightmare of being buried alive, and to see and hear that so many innocent humans have been lost beneath mountains, buildings, etc. I don't care what country it is, America, Haiti, China where ever, these human beings deserve water, food, medical help. I am disappointed and quite frankly sickened by the lack of human compassion shown by several unfortunate, heartless, selfish people. (John s., jennifer, traci, marie) So few, thank God, ! Pray, eat, love, give whatever you can, unselfishly. Look at your child, grandchild, husband, parent, friend, and thank God that they haven't had to endure such a horrific devastation. As for Brad Pitt and his partner, Angelina Jolie, I truly admire you both. Brad, your were truly blessed when you and Angelina became partners in life, as was Angie. I love, love, love seeing pictures of your children, how you let them be normal, dress the way they want. I have 11 grand children, 2 are adopted and every bit the blessing as the older ones. I thank God daily for my family and friends. Actually, I've always thought I would love to be a nanny for the Jolie-Pitt clan. I respect all that Brad and Angelina do, for the USA and world wide. Angelina puts her life on the line to go to 3rd world countries, (contrary to a few prior posts) definitely not for publicity. "You" don't have any idea of all that they give and "do". GOD BLESS BRAD AND ANGELINA AND THEIR CHILDREN. I wish more people that have been blessed to have very large sums of money, would give their time and money, just as many, many people who have very little, give all that they can, monetarily, or donating time or items.
Marie, that makes no sense. Are you not aware of all the people they helped in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina? They even moved there, while Brad Pitt led an initiative to build 150 new homes for New Orleans residents with Project Make It Right. Last time I checked, New Orleans is in the US.
It is amazing how many people are so evil- " I hate everyone", hoping the next one hits la and we fall into the ocean-", people need to snap out of this hate mentality- we are all one- you need to read people- what happens to them happens to us- wait until you have to answer for your comments or actions- cause trust me YOU WILL. My blessings to all the people in Haiti- and may all those people with evil in their hearts wake up before its too late.
What has happen to the love and compassion for one another no matter what country we are from or the color of our skin we are all still Gods children, so stop the petty remarks and remember that could have been you in the same situation these people are in. Whatever little we have to give, give. God would never turn his back on you unless you turn your back on him. People stop being so mean with the negative comments, these people are suffering right now.
Are you kidding me Marie ? Have you not heard of all the charity work that they do in New Orleans ? They do terrific work both here and abroad and should be commended for their efforts !
I think it is wonderful that Brad and Angelina and America in general is stepping up publically and financially to support Haiti and its people after the terrible heart break of the Earth Quake. We are so blessed in America to have a government that assists us and has such vast resources. New Orleans was terrible for our young Country but praise God we had Stadiums, Boats, Air Lifting, and Shelters and MONEY to at least give folks shelter and food. Haiti has nothing of the sort!!! Never has, not even pre-earth quake. It seems odd to me that there is such hatred and negativity for two people trying to do good for others. The last time I checked with my God "I (nor any one) do not have to be perfect to give to any one at any time I (nor we) just need to do so with a loving heart." Give Brad and Angelina a break. Have any of you ever googled Make It Right Foundation in New Orleans? Brad Pitt got nothing and gave freely and people now have proper homes designed to combat flooding and future safety. They donate every year to misplaced Orphans in the United States. Yes, foster care in the United States. Not to mention Angelina and Brad traveled Haiti when she was pregnant with Shiloh assisting displaced folks. They have always supported Haiti its not something new. CNN even has this in Archive. Anyhow, I am proud of all fellow citizens in the Arts of Hollywood, the Arena of Politics, or the kind neighbor in my community that gives $5.00 or $5,000.00 to those in need at home or around the Globe. America is generous and blessed and Good Job to all that are paying it forward in Haiti including Brad and Angelina. May God Bless the people of Haiti with Staminia, Endurance and Stength one day at a time. May we all light a candle tongiht for those in darkness (including the Haters on this Blog). Geez, you would think people would do cartwheels about anything going to Haiti vs. finding a reason for it to be unjust or unsincere.
They have helped the community of New Orleans– which I believe is sometimes treated as the USA step-child.
special thanks to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for your lovely heart in helping Haiti earthquake.God always bless people who think about others.may you earn enough for you and extra for your helping hand
SUPER STAR IN MOVIES & A MEGA STAR TO THE WORLD
Come on Oprah does alot to. Stop critizing people and get up off your butt and help.
Linda who cares how many they adopt. All kids deserve to be adopted. People need to get their priorities straight and realize whats most important in life. TAKING CARE OF EACH OTHER NOT COMPLAINING BECAUSE SOMEONE DECIDED TO STEP UP AND DO THE RIGHT THING. Keep doing what you're doing Angelina Jolie you're the best.
Some people are wondering why we should help other countries?!!! Because a State or Country doesn't define that we are all CHILDREN OF GOD and are ALL Worthy of COMPASSION!
To all of those people wondering why we should help out any other country...??? Just look at all the blessings around you!!!! We have Food on your table, a nice bed to sleep on, clean water to drink,
clean air to breath, medical resources, jobs, etc...
And still.... all we do is complain!!!
The answer to your question is because we should be HUMANITARIAN and UNSELFISH! May GOD always help you
to see with the EYES OF YOUR HEART!
P.S. Regarding publicizing their charity – it's a way to spotlight a need and to encourage others to help
C'mon people! These are two people who can choose to spend their money any way they wish. If it's to help others, LET THEM!
If you're angry that they're not doing more for the US, perhaps you should focus your attention to the US government instead of 2 people.
@Jenifer A – you bash them for only helping New Orleans and praise stars who don't publicize their charity. How do you know they haven't helped other people/causes that they haven't publicized? I bet your bottom dollar that they have
@Traci – it's sad to see such bitterness
@Jenifer – is not $2mill better than nothing?
Those who know no sin can cast the first stone – otherwise please focus on the tragedy at hand.
It is nice to see that this movie star couple are always giving their time and money here and overseas when they can. I am sure that there are more movie star couples that give and do so without press coverage, but I see the benefit of press as a way to prove to the fans that even if they make huge amounts of money from movies, they give back because they are kind and they know how lucky they are. Way to Go!
I'm just blown away by the overall tone of the posts. To those of you that offer prayers, compassion and kindness, thank you. As Americans we are extremely fortunate in many ways. It is such a sad thing to see so many folks use forums like this to spew negativity, mindless thoughts and hate. Times are difficult for many right now. Please use your energy and resources in a constructive way, otherwise, please keep the hate to yourself. Nobody benefits from your darkness.
Why so much anger?..Everyone has a right to their opinion..soooo??
Good for them ! Haiti needs all the help they can get right now and from each and everyone of us !
OK....I don't a rat's behind about Bragelina or whatever they are calling themselves.... but Marie has a right to her opinion... you may not agree with it but let's focus shall we? If you can volunteer go. If you can contribute $$, contribute. If you cannot do either, pray and stay out of the way. All these negative thoughts are not contributing to the disaster.....
My prayers goes out to the people of Haiti and to others that may be suffering across this great nation. BUT! Celebrities..whomever they may be, Brad and Angie, etc..they can choose to do whatever they want with their money. They have chosen to reach out and help Haiti, as they also choose to reach out an help New Orleans. There are thousands of Charities out there..that thousands of celebrities hosts and give to..as well as ordinary people. But giving starts with oneself..if you are able to give to a charity that you believe strongly in..do so..but if you can..then don't. But please don't criticize those that can and do give to a cause that is dear to their hearts. Haiti needs all the help that they can get right now. And I pray..that if the USA is ever in a need, much like Haiti..that other countries will come to assist us..and I am sure that they will..We are blessed..to have never been in such a need. Peace to the People of Haiti
brad and angelina are the most selfish people in this entire planet!! they never help out anybody unless it gives them publicity, money, or fame....just because they adopt 15 kids from 3rd world countries everyone thinks its a good deed, but actually there adopting all these kids to make a reality t.v show to profit even more money for themselves.
Haters,
Brad and Angie ARE HELPING HERE IN US...Have you seen the rebuilding projects this couple has been involved in in New Orleans? As a matter of fact, Brad participates in the actual building...Haters stop throwing stones, be the CHRISTIANS you claim to be and help your fellow man. Give $5 to the American Red Cross. The people of Haiti are human beings, and I know my Jesus would provide aide.
Kudos to Brad and Angie! YOur warm and giving spirit should be imitated.
@LBW Exactly! Oprah? Beyonce and Jay-Z? Mariah Carey? Madonna? James Cameron? Spielberg? You can't take all that money with you to the grave. Uh-oh... they will hate Brangelina.
My heart goes out to the people in Haiti. It is very sad that something like this happens and so many are suffering cause of these dissasters. Every time you open the t.v,there is someone else suffering. We should be ashamed of what we complain about sometimes that we dont make enough money or what we can't have or just something of the sort. We should consider ourself very fortunate to have what we have cause there is more people suffering and need our help in this world and that's just my opinion.
There was a natural disaster in Haiti people! It's a life and death situation for many.
After Katrina, several nations offered to assist the US, even though those nations are poorer.
Rescue workers came in from Canada, and in fact, they were some of the first responders. Should they have not helped because it wasn't their country??
Could we, just for now, focus on these poor people whose lives have been changed forever, without passing judgment on those willing to roll up their sleeves and help.
Angelina Jolie has always stated that she has a heart for displaced people, and giving a voice to those who may be unable to express themselves for various reasons. She visits various refugee camps, and spends countless hours working with relief organizations. So of course, it is fitting that this crisis would touch her deeply. In addition, she donates one third of her salary to charity. How can you criticize someone for doing that? It's not your tax payer money she is using. You choose to spend your discretionary income at the movies. If it bothers you that much, don't watch any of their movies and donate that money to a local charity instead.
Maybe if we spent a little less money on war and a little more on education and healthcare the US would be a better place to live.
The reasons why we are not doing well, are not going to go away with Brangelina throwing us a bone. What we need is a total turnaround from within.
As for help in disaster areas, we need to step forward and give as much as we can. Having been to Haiti I am shocked anybody would try to keep help from them on a regular day.....but NOW?????
To Marie – how much help have you given to the people here in the US? Maybe your mouth overloads your wisdom! It is individuals like YOU that create problems for others. Just shut up, keep your ugly opinions to yourself, get out and do something for an elderly person, buy them a meal, take them to get their groceries, pay a bill for them, do the same for a child, but keep your "mean" opinions to yourself. I KNOW FOR A FACT that Brad and Angelina have put a lot of money and he working power in New Orleans.
You MARIE don't know what you are talking about, so just keep off the comment section if you can't keep your facts straight.
People are people no matter where they live and the fact that these two are helping is wonderful. How many rich people never raise a finger to help those in need... THAT LIVE IN YOUR COUNTRY! Grow up people.... how much do YOU do to help your own country?!?!
Oh joy, this lovely couple of our great country helping people. You are supposed to you jerks. To put out a public statement for self pleasure is typical of these wierd type people. branalo hate thier own country so please leave
I'm just sick and tired of Brangelina. Actually I'm sick tired of Hollywood. Let's hope the next natural (or man made) disaster is LA and the entire place slides into the ocean. This world would be a better place without actors – along with pro athletes, politicans, and wall street bankers. My heart goes out to Haiti, but gimme a break Brad & Angie.
OH YOU POOR AMERICANS.....ALWAYS COMPLAINING....Cannot believe that you would have anything to say about a great couple tHAT does so much for the world....COME TO CANADA ..IT IS THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WOLLD...GREAT HEALTH CARE TOO.....You should be ashamed not wanting to help those poor people in HAITI...
@ Jennifer – so what you're saying is that just because they are well off than that means they're charitable donations are just for tax write offs and they have no other reason behind it – you know this first hand do you? as previously said – does it really matter where the money comes from? and no one is asking for the world – just help – and cudo's to anybody that can donate $10 – $100 or $1,000,000 – it doesn't matter – as long as it's helps – lets remember that as we sit down to dinner tonight – whatever it is – and then get into our beds – at least we are able to do so – unlike those poor people in Haiti –
No time for cynicism and thinking only of yourself. Just help! If it isn't Haiti you want to help, help someone else. Help can be given in many forms, not just money. Donate your time, donate used clothes. To do "something" feels great. Take the focus off yourself.
Honestly, what Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie can do to most help the world imho is to stop taking advantage of American capitalism to fleece all of us (not just those that are stupid enough to go see the trashy movies that they make). These two are millionaires many times over, while the rest of us are struggling to afford basic necessities. They make a hundred million, throw a couple mil (what does that come out to, 2% of what they make?) at a few charities and make sure that the press knows all about it. They aren't part of the solution to the problem; people like them ARE the problem. I wonder how many homeless families Brangelina's millions would feed? I wonder where people like them get off thinking that they remotely deserve even one fraction of the money they have made when there are hungry children in the world? And DON'T ask ME what I have done to help others. Unlike Brangelina, I'm honest, I don't game the system, so I'm struggling just to take care of myself, like most other people are. I don't have a couple mil to throw at a charity for good PR and a tax writeoff...
Since when is New Orleans a state?
I donated today and feel better for it. They need our help and we are the stronger nation and need to aid them all that we are able. They got nothing.. Please donate. https://secure.unicefusa.org/site/Donation2?df_id=6680&6680.donation=form1
So how many kids will they adopt from there now?
Really Marie? Help is help no matter where it is given. Haiti was just devastated and your response to individuals wanting to help is..."Why can't they help in their own country?" WOW!
.. Angelina and Brad, they are good people and they have been helping our people as well.
You have money, you want to help, you have a choice, bless them which wishes to help anyone.. Does not matter where it is entirely their choice. I am glad they are helping..
Why don't we all just dig into our pockets and send whatever we can spare to the Red Cross to aid in the relief efforts? Pennies add up to dollars and it all helps!
Marie, Lori and Maggie:
America has a government that can help us out!!! We are the richest and spoilest country in the world. We are responsbile for our own demise because we think we are entitled. Thank you Angelina and Brad. We need to stop spending money on wars and corporate welfare and Americans need to stop over spending and mind their own business because if we were not invading countries instead asking what Wall Street was doing with our money maybe we would not need a Congressional hearing today and 15 million people would not be laid off.
Karen,
Ok, let's ask Haiti to to help the US-a superpower, would that make you happy???
Karen – Dire need? what? I must of missed it when a 7 earthquake hit the states and kill hundreds of thousands of people – and I also seem to remember donated to New Orleans when that catastrophe happened – as well as 911 – and I dont even live in the States – and Lori – stick to the subject – this isnt the online blog for National Enquirer
i think it's great there helping the families in haiti may god forever bless them.
When people in the US need help, there are endless resources and opportunities to be fed, clothed, found jobs, taken care of in all ways. In Haiti this kind of assistance isn't available even in the best of times. At a time like this, I don't see how anyone could feel anything but joy at the fact that someone with the ability to give a lot chooses to help in such a terrible situation.
giving is better than recieving! God will bless USA and others.. dont be selfish... we should help one another.. and if someone chooses to give a helping hand, power to them. It is THEIR decision NOT OURS!
Charity starts at home, look at us (usa) we are Still in dire Need! No one helps US out!
First of all, I am not putting down what Angelina and Brad are doing – yes they did help in New Orleans, that is one state out of how many in America, New Orleans did need help but so do many other states. It does not seem to me that America is in the best shape or does everyone close their eyes to the homeless, unemployed and all americans struggling out there, I am not saying don't help Haiti, I am saying help your own country first...........maybe some of you are doing okay out there but there are too many that are not. It has nothing to do with selfishness, We need to save our country first! My opinion.
Please people, get a grip–these are not angelic gods. I could care less if they gave a million dollars to every cambodian child out there–still doesn't cover up what they really are. She is a pyscho freak, a home-wrecker, a husband stealer with children out of marriage. He's no angel either, he cheated on his wife with this woman. Isn't it funny how all of a sudden, they become "humanitarian" when their infidelity hit the magazine covers. I am shocked at how many people actually like them and don't see them for what they really are: immoral. All the money in the world can't cover or clean that up.
By the way, I have since then never spent a penny to watch their movies or make them richer-I refuse to see their movies.
I'm astounded by the lack of human decenscy that some people show. We grew up in a nation that has vs. a nation that has nothing. It does not matter where or whom dontates the time, money, resouces, etc. The only thing that matters is that people and I mean PEOPLE are willing to help their fellow man. The USA is not perfect and we have a lot to do in our backyard but to diminsh what has happend in Haiti or trivialize it by pointing fingers at who should and should not / can and cannot help out is disgraceful. THINK PEOPLE if a MAJOR catastrophe happens in our backyard, I can only hope and pray that people would find it in their hearts to help us out.
It's clear we all agree to the fact Haiti is need of Urgent Help from the World . I am very proud to know that even though the US is hurting badly with internal problems they still bear the caracter that has made them Great People the one to help and save lives regardless. This is something I would like see followed by the rest of the World. So guys take this from a humble admirer of the American People very far away. God Bless America and Haiti.
it ceases to amaze me how a horrific tragedy such as this brings out the 'best' in people – give it a rest to those that are complaining and pitch in to do your part in assisting the 'humanitarian' effort – its not a question of what colour people are – where they live – or what 'have they done for us' – take a look at the pics – Dad's carrying dead baby daughters – displaced people crying in the streets and total devastation – put yourselves in their position and imagine how you would be praying for help – make a donation and solicit others to do the same
@ Traci – great to hear that you served in the U.S. military during Desert Storm, Haiti and Somalia and was a former Police Officer amongst being a former chairperson for Emergency Management- awesome that you ' hate everybody ' – what kind of person that was in all those positions would say such a thing – not someone I would think we would want to come across if we needed help of any kind –
em... if you look at the Jolie-Pitt Foundation site you'd see that they and other celebrities support hundreds of US and International charities through the foundation so Angelina and Brad have contributed to US charities far beyond aid to New Orleans.
Other International charities they've contributed aren't aimed at a specific country but helping fight poverty, AIDS, children and women's rights, environmental concerns, etc. GLOBALLY – not just in one country. Give your heads a shake. They're doing far more than most people so stop whining that they aren't helping every person in the US before a person in a completely devastated country where millions of people don't have water, shelter, food, electricity or hope.
I AM ASHAMED!
Im ashamed by anyone who's heart is not bleeding for the people of Haiti. We forget how blessed we are in America. We have the most simple things.. food, shelter, water, clothes. If we dont have those things there are many resources that will help us get them. The poorest person in America is still better off then most people in Haiti. What are you going to do to help??? here are some suggestions... go to worldvision.com and donate or donate to Wyclef Jean's charity
" YELE HAITI" This is ONLY Haiti reflef. you can text "yele" to 501501 and donate 5.00 that will be billed to wirless bill. start collecting clothes, food, toys, medical supplies from your family, friends and neighbors and get them to the RED CROSS. We have to stop pointing fingers at others about what they are or are not doing. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?! GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND DO SOMETHING NOW!
Sick of them!
ps...
why DOES Brad continue to grow that ugly facial hair and
manage to look quite UN-like a Hollywood star ?
sometimes I wonder if God purposely devastates areas of
the poorest of the poor.....so they don't suffer anymore?
New Orleans, another story.....I think he was ashamed at
what happened every Mardi Gras....with the boobs shaking
everywhere (for crummy plastic beads?)....and
said 'enough' !
i just donated $25. they're donating money. what did YOU do? oh, criticize people for not donating to the charity you see fit. why not start criticizing people who sit on their ass and don't lift a finger for anyone?
Wow, but a bunch of selfish and ignorant people here who begrudge the people in Haiti help. We may have poor people in this country but I can guarantee you that they have not experienced anywhere near the hardships the Haitians have endured. You should have to walk in their shoes first before you judge and make these ridiculous statements. Most of the so called poor in this country still have their TV, car, food stamps, and welfare check. Get real! Hats off to Brad and Angelina for being pro-active.
Stop the ethnocentricity..Angelina and Brad help people in their own country as well as others. Everyone deserves help regardless of where they live on this earth!
Angelina and Brad do help people in their own country! They did great amounts for the katrina Victims and why on earth would you begrudge someone from help because they are not in the US! Stop the ethnocentricity!
So many celebrities use their money only for themselves, even though we are the reason they make that money. Brad and Angie are a power couple, who actually care about the world, and that is greatly admirable. I love these 2. Wish people would back off. They do so much for everyone, and are actually trying to help those in need. I'm so tired of hearing about Angie vs Jen. I'm tired of everyone saying they are doomed to fail. Just let it all go, and instead focus on what they ARE doing to improve life for others.
Hey, maybe Traci and Marie can get together and do something for others instead of blasting peoople who are trying to do something for the good of the world!
Angelina and Brad do help people in their own country! They did great amounts for Katrina Vicitims and why on earth would you begrudge someone from help because they are not in the US! Stop the ethnocentricy!
Isn't New Orlean's in your own country?
Marie, I totally agree with you. I wish that americans living amongst one another could help out in their own country first. I feel for people who are devasted by this, but I refuse to see how people will rush to save someone in another country before helping others in their own..Charity begins at home and i'm tired of working with the community seeing tears, hearing stories of hopelessness here in america. With all the billions going out to countries, how can we justify what is going on in our own home.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are helping people in need and should feel good for being able to do so, they are fortunate and know that and have never been selfish. They are in my estimation two good human beings. I have always respected what they've done and continue to do. Thank you.
I would love to donate some clothes that I have – how to do that is the problem!
It's funny how New Orleans is still a mess and people are jumping to help the people over seas. Let's start by first helping the people in our country. I am not saying this is bad or they shouldn't help people overseas, but there are plenty of poor families here in the United States that need help and assistance.
I was deeply saddned to hear about the earthquake in Haiti and I believe these people need all the help they can get, but it's frustrating as an American to see famous people with plenty of money to spare giving it to people in other countries. I look up to what Pitt and Jolie are doing, but others should step in to assist the Americans in need.
Brad was/is very active in helping New Orleans rebuild homes, he even put his own money in. They are beautiful people.
I appreciate that they want to help another countries, etc. However, I feel the same as most of the comments posted- USA needs some assistance- I should know- I live in Michigan one of many states with high unemployment. I am sure that there are many food banks, shelters, etc which could benefit from some aid.
I just have one question, for Marie, Maggie, Traci and Louann - what have you done for the "children who are starving, can't afford decent clothes for school and live in extreme poverty " here in the US?
Marie,
They helped in new orleans. They lived there. They built houses there. They did help the US.
Short and sweet: Traci and the rest of the bandwagon taking Brangelina to task for they HAVEN'T done for the U.S. is a lot of hot air which does NOTHING to help a devastated Haiti NOW. It isn't relevant to the fact that two celebrities are willing to donate their money to help a country so far down in the hole it may never recover.
Oprah? Usher when your insurance checks clears? Beyonce? She made two million bucks over Christmas shaking her tail for a terrorist. What about you people?
They have helped people tremendously in USA. All the work he did for the Katrina victims.... come on now.
Thank God we live in a country where most of us have a roof our head and food. I can't imagine what those people are going through. Americans get upset when our late night talk show host have employment problems, when a couple with eight children get divorced and a golfer cheats on his wife. None of us experienced pulling a loved one out of rubble to find them dead. Americans are spoiled. At times I am embarrassed by it. My husband and I have three children, one is adopted. We struggle and do without most of the time. I am thankful that I have basics to live.
The people who survived will now face another demon. They will either receive humanitarian help or they will die. Disease is nothing new to that fragile nation, starvation not new, but to some of the people who complained about the U.S needs to help ourselves first, shame on you. I wish I could do something in your behalf.
He strikes me as a very compassionate person. She strikes me as a charity-for-pr type of gal. No matter the reasons, good deeds are good deeds to the person they are benefitting.
I agree, Brad Pitt and that Angelina Jolie should support their own country, USA, instead running around and helping other countries.
I will give credit to Brad Pitt, he has assisted with New Orleans.
Brangelina can do no wrong... plus they are so HOT while being good humanitarians! My hat is off to them.
They have a long and establshed practice of helping people in need here in the U.S. For example, Brad Pitt has been heavily involved in and very hands-on with the reconstruction of New Orleans. I don't worry much over how celebrities fill their days but do know this couple spends a significant amount of their income on charitable pursuits...at home and abroad. So perhaps refraining from criticism and investigating how you can help those lost souls in the Caribbean might be better way to spend your time.
Of course Angelina won't forget where she came from: A posh childhood, modeling and zipping hither and yonder for photo shoots, etc. I wouldn't forget a life like that either...In fact, I'd be on my private jet right now v. sitting here in front of the computer. I have nothing against her or Brad Pitt, but I think they should do more for the U.S. instead of promoting themselves by going to other countries. I'm not impressed one bit. Yes, I know all about their continued support for New Orleans. I keep up with current events. Just like Madonna and Oprah (who is the devil, btw), all these "celebs" are going to other countries to adopt children and school them and protect them, when we have our own children who are starving, can't afford decent clothes for school and live in extreme poverty as well. With the U.S. being a melting pot for every climb and place, why not start here since we are taking in refugees, illegals, etc.? The U.S. is a staunch humanitarian aid resource and we are always there to assist whatever country will "allow" us to. And before you try to bash me with the "what have you done, Traci?" question, let me cut you off at the pass. I served in the U.S. military during Desert Storm, Haiti and Somalia and am a former Police Officer amongst being a former chairperson for Emergency Management. Sorry I didn't give you anything to bash me for. Latonia, nice try for the race card. I'm an equal opportunity hater – I hate everyone.
I'm so glad that there are people in this world who give their extra funds towards helping others in tough situations. It shouldn't matter where the funds go, it's the generosity and kindness that matter.
In response to the selfish statement above about helping the US first – wake up sweetheart. The poverty in Haiti is something that we don't have to experience and now it's even worse with this earthquake. A lot of people are either dead, very sick/hurt, or homeless. Yet, we still live in a country that focuses on "bigger and better" things. Most of us don't live as simply as possible so that others may have the opportunity to have a home or food. Instead, we spend money on things we like- and yes, the couple has benefited from our spending. I'm glad for that because they are putting it towards a good cause. So before you criticize other people for helping, consider this: Would you put your extra money towards helping a country in need instead of upgrading to the newest cell phone, car, or tv? Would you stop dining out to help feel the poor? Again, I'm thankful for people like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Actually Brad and Angela are spending anyone's money who has went to one of their movies or any other entertainment event they have been involved in. They are using our money to help many places. Supporting just New Orleans is the only thing they have really done and have tried to get as much publicity as possible to show how great they are. The stars that donate to charities that do not put out statements to the press or have articles written about them are the ones who really help out of their heart. Angela is a self absorbed spoiled brat. she got into the business becaues of her father.
I have always been impressed by the fact that Brad & Angelina are usually one of the first ones to step up to the plate and offer assistance. They also do not discriminate as to who gets that help. The rest of the world should take a cue from them and pitch in something. I don't have much, but I donate my $5.00 per month to the Humane Society. And I feel better for it.
help by adopting all of the child survivors?
@Marie
Marie this is not the time for such talk....hundreds of thousands of people are believed dead.....don't make this about America. We all need to do what we can for Haiti and if Brad and Angelina want to help that is a good thing....lets leave it at that.
Marie,
Have you not heard of all the work they have done in their own country?
Comment to Maggie. Like Marie you should do research before making comments. Pitt and Jolie are well known for their humanitarian efforts within the U.S. What have you done lately to assist your fellow countrymen? Our country is in the crapper because people talk about what others aren't doing to help, instead of taking action themselves. Ultimately, we have no one to blame but ourselves and the politicians we elect for the state of our country.
Brad and Angelina can not do it all. Their compassion is so tremendous when it comes to helping others. They did not forget where they come from. They do give back to their country."WORLD PEACE". Their should also be "WORLD LOVE" WORLD HELP" in times of need. You reach out to people in need. All people do not think the same. So much hatred in this world. Brad and Angelina are a prime example of compassion. Speaking it, most of all living it.
agree with everyone but the two Ms (Marie and Maggie). it's their money that they have earned. why judge what they are doing with it. and plus they are helping New Orleans. our country should learn to help ourselves as we have the resource and ability.
Both Angelina and Brad have my respect. They have helped so many people in the US and abroad than most celebrities.
God bless them both. More celebrities need to give their money or energy to needy causes.
I only wish I had the means to help as they do...
Marie,
America is the richest country on the planet, why do Americans need so much help?? Most people have food, shelter and jobs here. These people don't even have that. Enough with selfishness.
I think it's wonderful that they are helping in Haiti. It's one of the most impoverished countries in the world.
As a selfish wish, I would like for them to help find the little girl my good friend and her husband are trying to adopt. After losing multiple pregnancies over the last couple of years, they made the decision to stop trying to have a baby. My friend's husband went to Haiti a couple of months ago to help build an orphanage and this little girl chose him during a prayer circle...they are in the middle of the adoption home study and now do not know if she is even alive now.
Marie, I think you need to do a little research. They both have put in efforts to help rebuild New Orleans, and also donate to various charities. What have you done? Also, we may be going through a economic crisis still, but I haven't yet to see a tragedy of this nature happen here in the United States. These people have lost everything, and not to mention that there is going to be a extraordinary amount of casualties. I think we do need to come together to help our Haiti. Don I am with you...I am very proud of them.
I find it amazing that people have negative things to say about others who are stepping in to help during a tragedy. What a bunch posts here on CNN. Sad.
There is a crisis in one of the poorest nations in the western hemisphere, if two celebrities want to bring attention to the need in Haiti or anywhere else for that matter, it's not a problem. All of us clearly have enough time to snipe at one another about the comments we leave on this "news" posting (and to misuse the words their and there), maybe we should consider using that time to help out someone in need, whether it be down the block or half a world away.
We are so fortunate in the USA and can help ourselves. I believe anyone who pledges to help any country is up to them, remember, it is THEIR monies. People in the USA need to stand up and remember how blessed we truly are. Thank you.
Marie, are you serious? Do you know anything about the subject about which you're so blithely sounding off? Why don't you Google Brad and Angelina's efforts to help people "in their own country" and find out how clueless you are? And then I suggest you examine your soul and question how you could say something like this in light of the unbelievable tragedy unfolding in Haiti.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have donated time and money to helping the USA. However, even if they had not, it is wonderful that they are ready and willing to help Haiti. The poor in America at least have shelters, soup kitchens, churches, and a viable social services network to help them. In Haiti, the conditions are far more extreme and devastating.
What a selfish statement to make. If it was another country besides Haiti I bet you wouldn't say that. I think they need to be commended on all the humanitarian things that they do. Unlike other successful people who don't offer any help. We always cry about helping the USA, the question is what are you doing to help your country?????
Marie – It's great to see how sensitive you are to those in need. The people of Haiti have just suffered a terrible tragedy. Anyone with a sense of decency would find it wonderful that people are jumping in to help during this tragic time. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have done a tremendous job helping the people of New Orleans, or as you so eloquently put it, helping their own country. Some people have a vision of the world where all human beings are important, not just Americans.
I think they do help people in the US, too. Have you heard about the "pink houses" project that Brad is a huge part of – – helping to rebuild New Orleans (http://www.makeitrightnola.org/). Brad and Angelina seem to help in devastated areas all over the world (including here). The question is, what have you done? Have I done? You don't have to have a lot of money to help people.
My comment is in reference to Maria's comment. I have no problem whatsoever with Brad and Angelina helping out the devastation in Haiti. Her scathing comment is inappropriate to say the least. I have been to Haiti and the poverty is incredible! I'm sure that Brad and Angelina haven't forgot where they came from. I'm proud of them!
I agree 100%. How about helping their own country first. Our country is in the crapper because we always seem to help everyone but ourselves!!
They have been helping there own country. They are very well known for helping out New Orleans and they still do today. Before you make comments you should do your research Marie.
I guess you haven't heard about their efforts to rebuild New Orleans. I'd call that helping in their own country!!
John Galt and Dagny Taggart to the rescue! (not quite)
I would like to see them help the homeless and unemployed in their own country – USA – since the people here helped make them successful, I not saying do not help Haiti, but how about helping your own country first.
