2009: Hey, remember when ...

It's been a tough year for many people, and with a new year looming, it's natural to want to put the past behind us.  But let's end 2009 on a positive note.  What are your favorite entertainment memories from the past 12 months?  Movies that moved you, music that touched you, TV shows that delighted you, books that changed your life?

No need to slag other people's choices if you don't like them – just add your own.

Oh, OK ... if you simply must have an "arbitrary" list of faves to criticize, here are a few of my favorite things from 2009:

Movies: "Star Trek," "Up In The Air," "Pirate Radio," "Up" (I still have some movies to see!)

TV: "NCIS," "Numb3ers," "Men of a Certain Age," "Eureka" and "Warehouse 13" on SyFy (please, change the network name back!), the Kennedy Center Honors (especially the tributes to Springsteen and Brubeck)

Books: "Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell; "Age Is Just A Number" by Dara Torres with Elizabeth Weil; "Agent to the Stars" by John Scalzi; "It's Good To Be The King: The Seriously Funny Life of Mel Brooks" by James Robert Parish; "Anansi Boys" by Neil Gaiman; "Green Metropolis" by David Owen; "Soon I Will Be Invincible" by Austin Grossman; "Invisible Lines of Connection" by Lawrence Kusher.  (Obviously, some of these weren't published this year, but I read them this year, so they're part of my 2009.)

Live Performances: magician Jason Latimer at the Magic Castle in Hollywood; the Troubadour Theater Company in Toluca Lake, California.

May 2010 bring us all entertainment that brightens our lives, gladdens our hearts, challenges our minds, and sparks our imaginations.

    Yeah, I ain't welcome here,

I don't watch these shows or let alone, even hear about em.

So take over my unidentified American people, you'll live longer.

Best movie I saw this year – Michael Jackson's This is It.

Best band I had never heard before – early in 2009 I found out about Muse – was blown away by their sound.

Best new artist I heard this year – Lady Gaga – I'm not into theatrics, whether they were Alice Cooper's or are Lady Gaga's. But I really like her sound.

Best book – Teddy Kennedy's memoirs.

Best TV? It wasn't it's first year, but I'm still hooked on Mad Men.

Avatar! The movie-event of the century!
I have never seen such an artwork, it might be compared only with 2001 a Space Odyssey. It's the story of spirituality and science, the story of creating beauty by means of digital art. James Cameron belongs together with the greatest sci-fi artists of all time, the writers Arthur C Clarke, Frank Herbert and director Stanley Kubrick.

Avatar is masterpiece that will live on in your imagination the rest of your life.
James Cameron did a superb job!

TV: COUGAR TOWN - I haven't seen this mentioned at all....great to have Courteney Cox back with a hilarious, quirky cast of characters dealing with getting old (something we all can identify with), I esp. love the ex-husband character Bobby played by Brian Van Holt - where has he been hiding???
CASTLE - Nathan Fillion's sometimes predictable character still brings a smile to my face weekly; the story lines are well written with just the right touch of comedy added in to offer a fresh approach to the stale, serious, over-the-top gore laden cop dramas that have become common place the last few years
MODERN FAMILY - What a hilarious take on the family sitcom; it is great to have "Al Bundy" back with a rounded out cast of characters that offers hilarious laughs week after week - I never know what to expect and that keeps me tuning in - WELL WRITTEN

TOO many books, not enough time to list all the great titles out there

LOVE movies, just don't have the dough to hand over to watch a movie alongside foul mouthed, rude movie-goers....would rather wait until they come out on DVD and watch them at home where I know I won't have to listen the the "f" word over and over and get my chair kicked a ton of times... a sad commentary on modern day audiences! People just lack class these days!

It is a diverse, insightful film about stereotypes and coming to grips with one's own pitfalls and prejudices -and very funny. she absolutely rocked! oddly, her role in Benjamin Button can't even compare to her role here.

Even though this year, Green Day and Weezer put out great albums...

and somehow Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones agreed to make a band with Foo Fighters founder Dave Grohl and Queens of the Stone Age founder Josh Homme...

2009 was a terrible year for rock music!

Movies – Star Trek, Avatar. May not have been Shakespeare, but very entertaining.

TV – NCIS, Numbers, any Jon Stewart skit ridiculing Glenn Beck, ditto for Keith Olbermann

Books – only book I read this past year that was published in 2009 was "The Lost Symbol"... entertaining in a "Calgon take me away" manner. Again – not exactly Shakespeare.

    Music – U2 360.
