John Mayer: I'm taking a break from dating

testing captions
testing captions

He has dated some of the most well-known starlets in Hollywood, among them, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson, but John Mayer has had enough of the ladies, for now at least.

The serial dating singer told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, in an episode airing today, that he is going on a romantic hiatus.

“Yeah, I'm a little freaked out about dating," Mayer says. "So, I'm just going to let time pass and just do my thing."

Mayer admits to Ellen that he has fallen into the trap of dating women who have been more famous for much longer than he has.

"For some reason who ever I date has been famous for a while. I can't sit here and be like, 'Oh, please let me live my life in private with this famous person who's been around for 15 years,' " he says. "The last thing you want is to see me doing is bashing my head going, 'I'm shocked, that I'm being followed right now.' ... I'm just going to hunker down.”

Musically he is very talented but with his history of serial dating it makes me wonder.......should he just come out of the closet already!!

I don't think dating famous people has anything to do with his obvious fear of commitment. Has he ever dated anyone longer than a year?

John Mayer's problem is that he has the guitar skills of a legend and the emotional psyche of a teenage girl.

What a lot of ignorant comments about someone that the commentators profess to hate/despise/disrespect/not care about. Why do you bother to come here and post nasty things about someone you don't know, other than what the media has chosen to portray. Go ahead and hide behind your anonymity – I would be ashamed of myself to be so full of venom toward a complete stranger that has never done me any harm.

Who cares what he does with his life? He has some talent but probably not as much as he would like to believe. He has dated some beautiful woman and I could never understand their attraction to him. There must be something good about him if Jen Antison cared about him but then again she loved Brad and he's a jerk.

    GREAT POST!! Totally agree-

I've met him on several occasions, he's a really good guy and CRAZY HOT in person!! He's wicked smart and mad funny.

Thank you SOOOOOO much, John, because frankly, it makes me throw up every time I see a new article about you or see your face on TV! I have never seen a man more obsessed with himself, never seen anyone so self-absorbed and full of himself. PLEASE drop off the planet so I can be happy never to see you "break another heart" (as I'm sure you think of it!) Take stock of your self during this break, to realize you have absolutely nothing to offer a woman. She would ALWAYS take second place to your ego!

You people need to chill out. Most of you are acting like he tells everybody he sees about his dating plans. Not true. If you read the article, you'll see they are talking about a TV interview. I'm sure the only reason he mentioned it, was because he was asked!! So blame CNN for posting a stupid story, if you want. But don't get pissed at John for answering a question he was asked!! I don't really care about his personal life, either. But, there are a lot of stupid people who do, which is probably why Ellen asked him the question. She knows that's what everyone wants to hear about.

My mom was aware of who John Mayer is and asked if I had any music of his. Now let me say that my mother rarely makes nedgative or colorful comments about anyone. When I played one of his songs for her, her response was "What? And he's such a famolus musician!? He sounds like an old man who has no teeth!"

What's really hysterical is that anyone who writes on this forum is adding to the hype of this man. Anytime, anyone writes about him, it just showcases his enormous reach and popularity. If you all "hate" John Mayer so much, then why do you "waste your time" commenting about his personal life? Me included.....DON'T TALK about it!

I can sympathise. I've been having the exact same problem lately. This recent bout with J-Lo isn't quite as bad as the whole Angelina spectacle, but it really does cramp your style when trying to find some private time. Should I continue to "brag" or is that enough.
Maybe if I'm just a little more shallow, my career will pick up again. Name dropping usually is great for a nice jump start.

You guys are hilarious. If you don't give a crap about this kind of news then don't click on the link to read it. He was being interviewed when he said this, so it isn't like he just made an announcement to the world that he is taking a break from dating. He was answering an interview question. Oh, and he plays the blues, so yeah I would expect his music to sound kind of depressing. I'm pretty sure they call it the blues for a reason.

For what it's worth, I met him once through a close friend of his. A very nice and straightforward guy. He came up to me, said "Hi, I'm John", and shook my hand. No airs, no holier-than-thou. And he is a true friend to this person I know, a loyal one, and I know that for a fact. Maybe has hasn't handled the media properly at times, but I believe he is a sincere person.

What a hypocrite! According to his former girlfriends he craves the fame and even notified the media of places they could be sure to find them. It's too bad that an obviously talented person can be soooo superficial and out-of-control egomaniacal–soooo unoriginal he is. On the bright side, maybe he'll take the time to develop an original style and sound instead of being a mere imitator of every blues-rock guitarist before him. That's what it takes to be an artist.

    Dear John,
I'm sure the women of the world will be saddened by your absence from the dating scene. It must be so exhausting being young, single, famous, and rich. If only all these famous beautiful women could understand your plight. Because we agree with you: it's all their fault for dating you in the first place. How dare they say 'yes' when you pine after them? Don't they know how hard it is for you? They should not even consider dating someone like you – being a peer and all. Who in their right mind would do such a thing?

Thanks for filling us in on your plans. We'll be praying for your speedy recovery. Hopefully the next megahot, über celebrity woman you date will not be such a chore. Stay positive and healthy. You're very important to all of us.
