The "Twilight" sequel: werewolves and heartbreakThe release of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" is less than a month away, but getting plot details from its director, Chris Weitz, took a little prodding when I caught up with him Monday night at the Hollywood Film Festival Awards Gala. Sooo... what can you tell us about "New Moon?" "Uhh... it's about a girl who likes this vampire," he quips. Oh, c'mon... "Every time I give away a secret I get in terrible trouble. So I can't really tell you anything. I'm only allowed to say boring things about it. It will not disappoint - something like that." So it will be similar in tone to the first film? "No. I think it will be a lot darker and also in some ways more epic because we traveled to Italy, there's a lot more action, and there are werewolves - we didn't have those in the first one. So there's a lot of grandeur to it. There's also the satisfaction of watching a young woman's heart get broken into a million pieces." That's always fun. "Yeah, I enjoyed that very much," he says with a grin. |

@Team Jacob:
Stephanie Meyer is a shockingly bad writer. That's not just opinion, it's fact. No writer with any modicum of talent would have to revert to such godawful cliches or consistently use and reuse words (how many times does Bella scowl in Twilight? Has Meyer heard of any other angry facial expression?), phrases (Edward is glorious. He has marble skin. He has a crooked smile. WE GET IT), or expression (again, don't know how I noticed this but "bad idea" is bandied around an awful lot in Eclipse).
That excuse for a writer couldn't come up with an original line to save her soul.
Also, her writing does not appeal "to people of all ages, sexes, creeds; and fans of all genres" – they appeal to teenage girls and women who still wish they were teenage girls. You're confusing Meyer with Rowling on that one, like confusing the sublime and the ridiculous.
Poorly written?? POORLEY WRITTEN?! I'm sorry, but have you read The Twilight Saga? You couldn't have. Either that– or you have no soul. It is not the vampires or the love story or the hype that keeps the ball that is Stephenie Meyer's billion dollar juggernaut rolling. It is Meyer’s innate ability to strike a chord within every single person who picks up her novels. Her writing appeals to people of all ages, sexes, creeds; and fans of all genres. If you have read even a chapter of these books and do not see yourself in Bella, there is something wrong with you. She is Everyman; a painfully normal girl who finds herself faced with fantastical circumstances. That’s what makes it so brilliant. Yes—Brilliant!! Stephenie Meyer not only has a beautiful lyricism to her (albeit often maudlin) prose, but I think she is a genius. This is coming from someone who holds a Bachelors Degree in English Lit. I have studied Shakespeare, Chaucer, Po. Mo. Am. Lit., Bronte, Austen, Plath, Faulkner, Fitzgerald. I have read Chabon, King, L’Engle, Salinger, Goodkind, Coelho, Neffinger. What holds pride of place on my bookshelves? The Twilight Saga. There are enough layers, substance, allusion, allegory, and subtext in those novels to write dozens of theses. Poorly written?
Initially, I found the first movie forced and fast and lacking. And every time I looked at Kristen Stewart, I thought—“that is NOT Bella.” I had to let go of my preconceived notions of how I felt it was supposed to be, and realize that this was a watered down Twilight for the movie going masses. And after seeing KStew trip onstage at the MTV Movie Awards (and how she handled said trip), I find her awkwardness incredibly endearing. She is Bella, after all.
I have had my 12:01am New Moon ticket since the day that Fandango started selling them.
And, finally, Robert Pattinson is the most bemusingly fascinating man to ever grace the world with his beautiful face.
Clearly, there is something wrong with me as well. 🙂
The first one I was dragged to by my 2 sisters and mother. I will not be fooled into going into another snoozefest again. I'd wather watch Max Payne 10 times a day for the rest of my life than watch Twilight again – ever.
Twilight was the most boring movie I have ever seen and its amazing to me that people will say its a good movie. No action. Bad acting. Stupid plot (sparking vampires???). All makes for a bad movie. I'm sure the next one will be just as bad so most of the non-haters here will be thrilled to see more of...well...nothing good.
It's kinda funny how all the people complaining about Twilight how Kristen and Rob are terrible actors and the movie was terrible but they are going to see New Moon to see if it is any better......lol. That's funny! If it sucked so bad why are are you going to see the next one. The movies are never as good as the books no matter which movie you are talking about. The books were amazing and I am really looking forward to seeing New Moon and the rest of the saga.
"Ppl who make negative comments about something they dont like & obivously arent interested in have nothing better to do."
...it must be hard living in a world where people can only say nice things and can't give criticism:) lol
new moon is freakin awesome. you don't know what you are talking about. i <<<<3333 TWILIGHT,NEW MOON,ECLIPSE,AND BREAKING DAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand they have to leave things out of the movie from books, but... they explained NOTHING in the first movie about the relationships between the characters. I find that to be of some importance to understanding, especially when new families will be introduced...
oh... and i will never ever understand the line from the first movie "Hold on spider monkey." That was just a bad line and made no sense at all... It seemed like they were missing some witty line and threw that one in there. lol
Still cannot wait for New Moon though!
Twilight was atrocious (sp). They were horrible actors and there was WAY too much left out. There is a new director for New Moon so I'm really hoping they stay truer to the book.
I totally agree with everything you say Sonni. Twilight was only popular because EVERY SINGLE reader of the book went to see it, that doesn't mean it was good. That just means they are true fans of the series.
Let's hope the rest of the sage is AWESOME.
This is an incredibly insipid series. It's a reflection on our times that such poorly written stories can generate tons of money at the boxoffice... all you have to do is leverage the pocketbooks of teenage girls. And their moms, of course.
can't wait to watch with my daughter. acting is poor but do able to pull it off. I let my daughter plan the movies we are to watch.
24 days and counting. I read all the books after I saw Twilight. Like my husband said; its a love story, not a vampire story. I loved the books, I loved the movie and will love the other 3 as they come out. It will never match the books, but take it for what its worth; its a few hours away from your everyday life to escape into their little world. They won't win any Academy Awards, but its a nice escape. Cannot wait!!!
Ummm... so why can't he give away the plot? It's based on a book... and not some book that no one ever heard of or read, either. The legions of fans who will be going to see this movie are the same die-hards who own the whole series in hardcover. Seriously, that would be like saying "I can't tell you what happens to the ship at the end of Titanic. Might ruin the suspense."
If you want to know what happens just read the books ... the movies won't stray too far off course although I agree with a previous comment, they cut out way too much from the first movie, so unless you read the book, you really didn't understand what was going on. I highly (and I do mean highly) recommend reading the second book before you see the movie ... you pick up on things you otherwise wouldn't.
For Twilight, I did it backwards, I saw the movie then read the book and went ahhhh, now I understand what was going on. Then I watched the movie again and it made a lot more sense.
Im sorry but i have to agree with Sonni. I completely ADORE the Twilight saga and every character was cast perfectly EXCEPT for Edward. Pattinson is not Hot and his acting is terrible. Will this keep me from watching the movie in theatres and then pre-ordering them on dvd absolutely not!! Truth is truth!
I am in love with Edward. And I know there is something wrong with that.
I can't wait to see New Moon. I actually saw the movie Twilight before I read the books, so that I wasn't disappointed with the book-to-movie adaptation. I loved Twilight the movie and the books are just amazing! I think Kristen (Bella) is a great actress in that she isn't really "acting". She has this natural way of acting that makes you think you aren't in the movie. She is very simplistic and real & you can't help but pay attention.
I adored Twilight – despite the terrible acting and lousy special effects. Because I loved the books, the bad parts of the film were tolerable. I'm really looking forward to New Moon! Although I have to agree with Santex, CNN staff and viewers should stop acting like the plot is a secret and just go read the books!
To everyone complaining about the 1st movie... I have heard mixed reviews from many people... but the one thing everyone needs to realize is it costs LOTS of money to make a movie. Twilight had a very SMALL budget and had to cut out alot from the book. I have read all the books and thouroghly enjoyed them... but there is NO WAY to put all that information into a movie... you would be sitting for about 6 hours instead of 2... Obviously the directors like "Bella" or she would be out like "Victoria" is.
i love you robert
I have to agree with vbabe, and I'm not trying to be mean, but Kristen Stewart is the same character in every movie she's in, every interview she submitts to and every award show she appears on. She's just very bland and she has no range at all. They could have gotten a better Bella. I am a big Twilight fan and she really ruined the movie for me. I'm hoping they do better with New Moon and hoping Kristen surprises the heck out of me and does some real acting. Thought the rest of the cast was outstanding.
This is the facts people maybe they bad actors but they are making more money than you and me they young so who cares what people have to said right.
can't wait and I think Kristen Stewart is an amazing talent. Check her out in Panic Room
i love everything about twilight. its an amazing story. who doesnt fall for really hott guys and have an incredible love story with it. at least edward knows how to sacriffice his life for the one girl he loves.
Great movie, didnt follow the first book that well, but I definitely agree that they could have found a better Bella. I've seen her in several movies and she has the same attitude in each of them.
Watch adventureland, its like the same character with the same cranky sighs through the whole film...
I already have my tickets to the midnight showing! I can't wait. I loved the books, and true the books maybe better but to see it come alive on screen is the greatest part. I can't wait for Breaking Dawn.
The movies would be better if they knew how to act, but I still enjoy them... I can't wait for True Blood!!!!!!
Ppl who make negative comments about something they dont like & obivously arent interested in have nothing better to do. I think that the first movie was good, i am hoping for a better 2nd movie, now that they have way more money. the 2nd book wasnt my fave outta the saga. But i cant wait to see it!
Tamy -i agree!
oh and i think new moon will be ok
I don't know why people keep saying the first Twilight movie was good! They cut so much out of the story that the characters relationship didn't make any sense-one day he hates her and the a couple of days later they can't stand life apart from each other?
And was it just me, or did Robert Pattenson(I have no clue how to spell his last name) just plain suck? Yah, he looks the part and everything, but his acting was TERRIBLE!
I love the books, but the first Twilight movie proved that popularity has nothing to do with substance. I know I'm probably public enemy N.1 now, but someone has to say something!
i think it will be intresting
This is for vbabe. Kristen is a very talented actress. I have seen her in many films. She is one of the youngest actors in the cast but has the longest resume.
I have read all of the books in the saga. I loved Twilight. New Moon is my favorite then Breaking Dawn. The books are always more detailed but I am sure the movie will be enjoyable.
I have my tickets and I know that I will enjoy it very much.
some of you are pathetic. I think you comment negatively on every story on CNN. These movies are incredible. i love them. and i'm going to go on a friday night midnight showing. woo woo.
vbabe, seriously... I don't know who told her... prob her parents who are already in the industry... ah connections 😛
ouch....... thats not only true but it's mean
Book will always be better (more detail)...but it is great to see it on screen...can't wait....my daughter and I are going together
My question is, who told the girl who plays Bella she can act?
Anyone that wants to get spoilers / plot details can just buy the book! Honestly! What's to give away?
Can't wait to see it. We're trying to plan a two hour ditch from work to go to the theatre.
I am sure the movie will be good. I loved the first Twilight. Looking forward to it.
Again stay home watch the horror or sci fi channel for the swamp thing, killer bees, creature of the black lagoon well you get the gist of what i am saying and it is free.
