Kanye West, how dare you ruin Taylor Swift's moment to shine!

Do you remember when you were a kid? Do you remember what your wildest dream was? Were you an athlete, a singer, a dancer, an actor? There was some sort of award that went with it I am sure- something that signified the pinnacle of success, whether it be a Heisman trophy, the Stanley Cup, a Grammy, an Oscar, or even an MTV Video Music Award.

Taylor Swift

I vividly remember being a little girl and standing in my room practicing my speech- it was for a different award every time, sometimes for a Grammy (which trust me, I was never going to win), an Emmy or an Oscar. First, let me set the scene: I would pull back my hair, put on way too much makeup, and drape a sheet over me pretending it was a gown and stand in front of my mirror. The speech always went something like this; “This is a dream come true for me! I am trying to keep it together and not cry (meanwhile I would try to work up a tear). I want to thank my family for their constant support. I never would have thought that I would have so much success at such a young age. Thank you to all my fans.” I will spare you the rest, but keep in mind, I was young so be kind with your comments on my lack of originality.

I am pretty sure that even though many of you may not admit it, you did the same. Well imagine that against all odds- absolutely impossible odds, you achieved immense success. Say you became a huge country star by the age of 16 and crossed over to pop music, becoming a superstar by 19. You are not only nominated, but invited to perform at the “cool kids” party of the year- the MTV VMA’s. Everyone knows that while other awards equal prestige, the “Moonmen” that MTV gives out at the VMA’s are an artists ticket into another level of the fame stratosphere.

Last night Taylor Swift should have been able to live out that moment that I know I dreamed of when I was a little girl. She stood on the stage at Radio City Music Hall with her hair pulled back, wearing just the right amount of makeup, draped in a gorgeous, perfect dress and stood poised to make what I am sure would have been a touching speech from a deserving teenager. Then, Kanye West, after sauntering down the red carpet swigging Hennessy, stormed the stage and ruined this poor young girl’s shining moment.

Shame on you Kanye, shame on you.

For more on Kanye's shocking behavior at the MTV VMA's, tune in to Showbiz Tonight at 11pm ET/PT on HLN- Don't miss it!

Probably to be a "hero" to the ones he is sympathizing with.

Their CONDEMNING KW's obnoxious action OR SANCTIONING it, would demonstrate presence of integrity and ethics, or lack of these.

Answer to your question…………..why did he do that?
The same action and reason KW was at the star studded fund raising telethon for victims of Katrina a few years ago, he went off about white people not caring about the blacks in New Orleans.
Many white , black, etc people ran to help the white, black , asian, latin people of New Orleans.
Many drove states away to drive truck loads of food and water.
The bottom line is it ate him up that a white girl (Taylor) was being recognized!
He has acted out in other ways, but always it's about white people.
It's all about the white race.
    He hates white people...

    To Nancy
It could have been absence of quick thinking because everyone became shocked by KW's gross rudeness.

But the least MTV could have done was to announce immediately after KW's obnoxious behavior that such prejudistic attack is abhorred and not tolerated at all. MTV's silence at that time may embolden future moronic stage-crashers.

I hope MTV and its colleagues map out preventions and penalties of such outrageous behaviors.

Children and the world are watching big American shows because it's one of the world's "role models" so please let's go back to demonstrating goodwill and good breeding.

    To Rob,
The police officer who was questioning the professor while investigating a possible burglary that was a first time incident between both.
You can't say the same for KW This is NOT the first time he has
acted out this way. and ALWAYS against white people.
It ate him up that a white girl was being recognized!
I call that racist! of the worst kind.
His apology is only to try and save the loss of money he will receive from his actions, he is trying to save any gigs in the future..
I feel he should NOT be involved with the media, music industry ever again. He IS a poor role model to his fans , to change.
Ban, boycott KW so he is ruined to a regular 9-5 min wage job.

Melo, I don't care what he wrote, and I actaully don't think it was racialy motivated. I'm actually making a point that we don't need to be jumping to conclussions and calling for someones head on a platter evertime something happens that involves more than one race. Just like KW was probably not considering race when he made his idiotic comment, I dont think the police officer who was questioning the professor while investigating a possible burglary was either, nor was the woman who called it in. (not that she will be stupid enough to do that again now she will mind her own business and get accused of being racist for not carring)

Who cares if KW is talented or produce a lot of music - that DOES NOT EXCUSE HIM from rudely disrupting someone from their award acceptance speech!

Don't we see rudeness, obnoxious conduct and hostility from his actions at all? Why support his outrageous behavior? Is he modeling an unacceptable behavior to be emulated by the youth? Heavens forbid!!! KW may have brought back to mind some unpleasant experiences and have disparaged the blacks !

Are we going to excuses again like his mom's death, poverty and other popular excuses? Move on from those excuses - move on to CIVILITY and GOODWILL. We can't live in the past forever because it's only hurting ourselves.

Others have risen above utter hardship and morbid diseases, why can't we move on to HARMONY and CARING WAYS?

KW should be grateful of his blessings instead of using it to outrageously misbehave and hurt others. We're not impressed with him at all. Fame and fortune are nothing, zero, nada if they are used for offensive behavior.

Kanye West has a super-hyped up ego. He atarted out as a producer in the studio before he even became an artist. The word "talent" is way over used. If one can carry a tune or pick out a tune on a guitar its called talented. The word "talented" to me means extra-ordinary. Lets face it...awards shows are handing out statues. Kanye was right about this but picked the wrong time and way to express himself

To the comment made by John on Sept 14th, Kanye West does more than rhyme words, bud. The guy produced many of Jay-Z's records, as well as his own. It takes a tremendous amount of talent and expertise to make several chart-topping albums. Sorry, but DO YOUR RESEARCH before you comment.

Aside from that, he really messed up in a big way by pulling that stunt on Taylor Swift. Anyone who sits and defends his actions as "not a big deal" or "a joke" really needs to reevaluate their own morals and values. As for MTV needing to get some class, well, until someone cleans house in their upper management, that will NEVER happen, no matter how much anyone wishes they would. Sorry but MTV, it's viewers, and modern pop culture are all a lost cause.

KW needs a reality check. We had white slaves also.
Do you see whites screaming the unfairness of white slave history towards anyone at every turn? Please!!! Chineese , mexicans suffered also.
Time to leave the past in the past and not keep hatred of whites alive!

What no one seems to be talking about is that Kanye West obviously has a drinking problem. Would he have gone up on stage if he hadn’t been walking around swigging a bottle of cognac all evening? Maybe not. The last time he did the same in Europe, he blamed the bottle. Yes he’s obnoxious and rude and self-centered, even narcissistic and he should have some severe consequences for his behavior but absolutely no question that he’s an active addict. What does it take for someone to intervene on his using before it’s too late? When does the media start calling a spade a spade?

Maybe it is time time to connsider banning Kanye West from any live telecasts. I don't care what race he is, he obviously doesn't know how to behave at these functions, and I'm sure Taylor is soo glad that that video is going to follow her around for the rest of career. He does however, know how to play the race card himself. Does anyone recall how on a star studded fund raising telethon for victims of Katrina a few years ago, he went off about white people not caring about the blacks in New Orleans. Really – Dumb – Move. Even my sister from the white bread Midwest said she could just hear the open wallets closing. As usual, smooth move, Kanye. BTW, kudos to Beyonce for her usual grace and class in what I'm sure was a very uncomfortable sitiation. That's how a star does it.

Regardless if you like Taylor Swift or not, regardless if you think she should or shouldn't have won that moon man or if her music is terrible or not. Kanye West's action at the VMA's is complete and utter disrespect to the artist that won, to everyone watching, to the other nominees (i.e. Beyonce's expression), to the people who voted. Save your comments and bitterness when you are miles away from the award show and in your hotel room. You would never ever see this kind of action occur during the Oscars, if someone won the World Series, Super Bowl, or any other sort of Championship game. Honestly, an apology doesn't cut it with me anymore. Kanye needs to do something more to make up for his huge mistake. He owes it for his own reputation sake.

He quickly gave Taylor his back and walked away without saying a word to Taylor.

I could care less about his stupid apology. I don't think he is really sorry for what he did. He is just scared of what he has done to his reputation, and he is scared because he does not have anyone backing him up. And using the death of his mother as an excuse for his actions is just a bunch of bull crap!!!!!

Kanye West is an idiot, an egotistical hack & a borderline talent at best. He should be ashamed of himself, but people like him never will be because reality is a blur to them. Oh, sure Leno almost got him to cry last night.. almost, no tears, no real remorse. The man spoke like he hadn't given what he would say about this a single thought; "um, like, you know, uh".. shut up and talk/sing(rap) like The Cat In The Hat with a beatbox you stooge, that's all you can do.
On the flip side of the coin, what this little event did for Taylor Swift's career (and no, I'm not a fan of either Swift or West) is going to be huge! Think about it, everyone who talks about Kanye is also talking about Swift, people who may never have heard of her are now youtubing & downloading, & BUYING her music out of curiosity. I was disgusted at the senator/congressman(?) who interrupted President Obama – he should have known better because he displayed rudeness to the USA president.

This time, poor Taylor Swift, she and the viewers were shocked when Kanye West GOT ON STAGE to express his disapproval over her winning. What gave him the right to do that?

RUDELY INTERRUPTING a winner in her award appreciation speech
    – is very, very uncivilized;
    – and conveys a hostile mind and attitude towards non-black winners;
    – and demonstrates a lack of intelligence.
I'm not either of the white or black race, but I am totally disgusted and nauseated at Kanye's behavior (what sensible person isn't?)

I'm disappointed at Jay Leno for letting Kanye West guest on his show because it encouraged an OUTRAGEOUS behavior. Instead, we should boycott Kanye. Nice try, but Kanye's apology wasn't even convincingly sincere (only a few viewers are naive, you know) – maybe he's just worried about the sale of his CD's.

There is so much violence erupting against women in the last few years. Everyone should be accountable for their actions, just because a person is famous does not make them impervious to any reprimand. That discusting display of a cowardly man is so typical of Kanye West's behavior, the type that had a rough upbringing, and is acting out as an adult. This is a huge problem in our society today. Unfortunatley, all the young men who listen to Kanye West's music and look to him as a role model, will think it's okay to perpetuate this behavior that leads to more violent behavior, because there is no seriuos consequences.
Such as in Rhianna's situation with Chris Brown. Community service!!! That's a joke, any one else, would have gotten some jail time. The entertainment industry should have some sort of an accountability procedure put into place, these men who can't find some other outlet to unleash their anger, they feel it nessesary to belittle women weather it be physical abuse, or abusive speech, shoul face serious consequences. Parents don't allow your children to listen to music, watch videos, or read harmful content that contributes to violence. Women need to watch out for these self absorbed, narcissistic, men. Almost always they have addiction problems, and then you are putting yourself in harms way. Many more stars have this problem, something needs to be done to reprimand these people. We are seeing to many cases of violence against women, in and out of entertainment.

Kanye is racist in my opinion and I am not afraid to say so. A white person won the award as an impartial audience voted on this and Kanye did not like the results only because she was white and sang Country instead of rap. What a disgrace. He is lower than pond scum.

Kanye may have fame. He may have money but he definitely has no manners. Whether Beyounce or Taylor had the better video isn't the issue. People need to have enough self-control to let other people shine and have their ideas, music and point of view heard by others. He has a right to his opinion but so does everyone else. His delusions of grandeur make it seem like his dislikes and his opnions are more important than others. Fame is fleeting but for people like Kanye they are so busy being famous they cannot enjoy their success or the success of others. He really is to be pitied not ridiculed. Beyounce did the classy thing and let Taylor have her moment. A bigger person would have.

he should be looking really deep in his soul thinking on what he did to taylor, and I do not think that kayne's mom would it approved that kind of behavior. Taylor really deserved that and we have to remember that is an award give by the fans, and the fans voted for her, and he and everybody else have to respect the fans decision. I do not think that alcohol is an excuse to what he did, anyway he should not have been drinking before the award show.

Just my thoughts: Kanye is a jerk! But its crazy that you can disrespect the President and then turn around and raise $1,000,000 from supporters but Kanye does this same stupid thing and 92% of you thinks he should be boycotted. If we boycotted every artist because of the stupid things they do or their lifestyles that differ from our beliefs, there would not be many artists at all. I expect politicians, pastors, teachers, and others in leadership roles to be good people. I could care less what an athlete, musician, comedian, or any other entertainer does. Its still wrong but I dont think any of you said hey Im going to buy Kanye because he is a good person! And asks yourselves this, how may of you all are against homosexuality but still listen to gay artists or watch Ellen?

To Keepingit real: 2 points, since they announced best female video first then shoulnd't that mean that TS should be upset that Beyonce won? And if not TS then maybe whoever won Best Male video should be ready to do a thumb war for it ? (once Again Heavy sarcasm)

The main point is, people no longer take responsibility for their actions and too many fools make excuses for them. If you're either of those types you should be ashamed, but probably don't care enough to be !!!!

The point YOU missed is that the PEOPLE voted for her to win, that's how she won and no matter what nobody has the right to run up there and take it away from her! Just who does he think he is – and let's all remember this is not Kanye's first offense. Sad and Pathetic that he thinks so highly of himself and has the nerve to apologize the next day! Kanye should take his apology and shove it, he already ruined her moment

You will have to wake up and face the fact that you are going to be blacklisted by many in the music industry who would have hated to have their brightest moment in the sun disrupted and who won't now want to be associated with a pariah and a boor. It is time to be genuinely contrite and humble – and to quit drinking. You need to atone and acknowledge that your ego has now gotten in the way of continued success. Perhaps if you show humility and a genuine, repeat that, genuine desire to change and you do, then you will be invited back into the club. Your behaviour was unforgiveable.

I have never liked Kanye's music and am applaud by his behavior in the past, but his recent antics at the MTV Music Awards takes the cake. He disrespected the MTV award ceremony; the music industry; put Beyonce in an uncomfortable position; made a complete ASS out of himself; and most importantly badly disrespected Taylor Swift. As an African American I am ashammed to have him as apart of my race. The only solution is for MTV to ban him from attending or performing at future award ceremonies.

It was an example of bad taste. I'm not a Taylor Swift fan, nor am I big on Country music, but if the people voted her video to win, then she deserves all the accolades, and deserved her moment to thank those who helped make it possible. I felt horrible for Taylor as she stood, stunned by what happened. Kanye West needs to just fade into obscurity. Kudos to Beyonce for inviting Taylor onstage to finish her acceptance. Kanye West is a racist bully. A few years ago he stated that "President Bush hates black people". This year, he feels that a black woman has a much better video than the white teenager. Had this been a white person protesting the black person's win, the word "racist" would be spoken and written so many times on the news, that if we got a dollar for every time it was mentioned, we could eradicate our national debt.
Where is Al Sharpton & Jesse Jakson?

And as for the "best video of all time", was he too drunk to watch and appreciates the opening tribute to Michael Jackson? Did he not see the "Smooth Criminal" choreography?

As for Beyonce .... class to the highest degree.

But to be honest what do we expect these people do not get popular because they are smart, classy, or because they are just good people. Often times, and last night was an example, we find that clebs although talened within the realm of music they are not so gifted when it comes down to being a good person, which in the end of life is all that really matters. Just imagine what the tribute to KW will look like when he eventually dies. I doubt anyone will miss his humanity, compassion, or his humility.

My reply to the question, "Is civility dead?" Of course not! Just because a loser like Kanye West is not civil doesn't mean it is all dead and none of us are. Let's focus on all the people who ARE Beyonce, Taylor Swift, and everyone besides Kanye. Let's stop giving the squeeky wheel attention. He either has a personality disorder (because he has had many many problems with outbursts) or he is an alcoholic/drug addict. His mother should have raised him the way Beyonce's did and Taylor's did. Kanye is a mess and should only hope to ever be as good a person as those he has dissed. And to give the audience the finger after they booed him? That takes the cake! It just shows what he is made of inside............not much!!!!!

She is an incredible talent with a wonderful voice and creates very memorable stories in her songs. The public, not Kanye, voted for her to win the award. So what is next for him?
