Kelsey Grammer says he has forgiven the man convicted of raping and killing his sister in 1975.
In a letter to the Colorado Parole Board obtained by CNN, the actor called Freddie Glenn a "butcher" and a "monster", but he added, "I am a man of faith and my faith teaches me that I must forgive. And so I do. I forgive this man for what he has done."
But Grammer made it clear he wants Glenn, 52, to remain behind bars forever. He wrote, "I can never accept the notion that he can pay for that nightmare with anything less than his life."
Karen Grammer was 18 when Glenn abducted her outside a restaurant in Colorado Springs. Weeks before, he had killed two other people in separate incidents. He was originally sentenced to death, but that was commuted in 1978 to life with the possibility of parole.
Grammer had wanted to attend the parole hearing in person, but said rain delays in New York prevented him from making his connecting flight. After reading Grammer's letter and hearing from family members of other victims, the board denied Glenn's request to be released.
He won't be eligible for parole again until 2014.
