Letter from Angelou remembers JacksonIn addition to Queen Latifah's thoughts about Jackson, the actress also read a poem from Maya Angelou called "We Had Him." Angelou wrote that "he came to us from the creator, trailing creativity in abundance, despite the anguish of life he was sheafed in mother love." |

Queen Latifah & Dame Maya's poem totally struck my heart.
Rest now in peace Michael...sing & dance with God's angels. You too, are one of them. Thank you, for giving the world the gift of your love. You will always be missed.

Tribute to Michael Jackson
“We Had Him”
Beloveds,
Now we know that we know nothing
Now that our bright and shining star can slip away from our fingertips
like a puff of summer wind
Without notice, our dear love can escape our doting embrace
Sing our songs among the stars
and walk our dances across the face of the moon
In the instant we learn that Michael is gone
We know nothing
No clocks can tell our time
and no oceans can rush our tides
With the abrupt absence of our treasure
though we are many
each of us is achingly alone, piercingly alone
Only when we confess our confusion,
can we remember he was a gift to us
And we did have him
He came to us from the Creator,
trailing creativity in abundance
Despite the anguish of life
He was sheathed in mother love, and family love
And survived and did not more than that
He thrived with passion and compassion
Humor and style
We had him
Whether we knew who he was, or did not know
He was ours and we were his
We had him
Beautiful, delighting our eyes
He raked his hat, slant over his brow
And took a pose on his toes for all of us
And we laughed and stamped our feet for him
We were enchanted with his passion
Because he held nothing
He gave us all he had been given
Today in Tokyo, beneath the Eiffel Tower,
In Ghana’s Black Star square
In Johannesburg and Pittsburgh
In Birmingham, Alabama, and Birmingham, England
We are missing Michael Jackson
But we do know we had him
And we are blessed.
And who could have said it better...
What an incredible moving poem by Maya Angelou. It is a gift for it will be a beautiful tribute that can be used for funerals of beloved ones everywhere.
Maya Angelou is such a wise woman. Thank you for such a moving, nonjudgemental, and thought-provoking poem.
I believe this was a fitting memorial for Michael. His Christianity and love of mankind was celebrated. I have two moments which I will never forget – the letter from Maya A. and his daughter's farewell to her father. There can never be a more difficult moment than a daughter saying good bye to her father.
Dame Maya, thank you for a wonderful poem! It was truly needed.
Thank you Dr. Angelou. What a perfect tribute. We did have him and I'm grateful he chose to share his gift, inspire so many and lift us up to experience god's blessing of love through song.
Thank You Mr. Jackson! Now may you rest in light and serenity.
