Rapper Kanye West writes a book

Kanye West's new book "Thank you, and You're Welcome" is a 52-page book of "Kanyeisms," according to Amazon.com. The Web site's description says it contains "the creative, humorous, and insightful philosophies and anecdotes used in creating his path to success. It captures the same wit, playful irony, and piercing insight found abundant in his lyrics."

John Krasinski, best known for his role as Jim Halpert in the U.S. version of "The Office," is starring in two new films. The first one, "Away We Go," comes out in June. The other is an untitled Nancy Meyers romantic comedy starring Alec Baldwin and Meryl Streep.

CNN's Jennifer Wolfe has more on these tidbits (and what Philip Seymour Hoffman is up to next!) in today's buzz:

Almost every time some celebrity says they have written a book, it is a lie. Either someone else wrote it for them, or they just dictated stuff for someone else to translate into some kind of readable text. It's ridiculous. I don't care much about Kayne's 'book'.

Sadly, singers like Kanye get so much media attention and what they spout does nothing to help the society as a whole MUCH LESS the people who love his music. You can bet if he sang lyrics that could "make a difference" to influence things like helping a neighbor, or being a mentor to a child from a single-parent home, well he just wouldn't sell. The fans of his music fall into the cateogry of people who sell themselves short and settle for the path of least resistance in life.

Our American society is in a really sad place. Kanye, why don't you TRY to make a positive difference for the people who DO listen to you? Make an impact for change.

I GUARANTEE IT WILL CUT DOWN YOUR EXPOSURE TO KANYE WEST'S 'ARROGANCE, TERRIBLE MUSIC, AND IDIOCRACY'. CELEBS ARE FUELED BY YOUR APPROVAL AND DISAPPROVAL. SO SPENDING ENERGY ON GIVING YOUR 'TWO CENTS'. NEGATIVE OR NOT. WE'RE ADDING TO HIS FAME.

Paco says that this fool is an inspiration. Inspires you to do what?....steal other peoples music? Hide your horrible voice behind a vocoder? Dress like a clown? He can't sing...he can't play a instrument...he can't write a song himself....as I see it....he's NOT a musician! ANYONE....yes.....ANYONE with the right computer program and the ability to make 2 words rhyme (sort of) can do what this guy is doing! YES....even you! I can't wait untill he falls....and trust me...he will!

Along with his talent comes a weird personality. Think Michael Jackson...This guy is on his way to being the next Michael Jackson and will likely self destruct in the future. He doesn't interest me and I don't buy his music. I certainly don't waste my money on meglomaniacs or their musings.

When are you people going to wake up to the fact that this guy HAS NO MORE TALENT THAN THE NEXT GUY. Programmed beats, ripped off songs, vocoders....seriously, if him and that plague on hip hop "T-pain" would just go away, we MIGHT actually get to hear something NEW by artists with talent. Turn on any hip hop station....it's the same song over and over by different people. Let this overly rich, non-deserving idiot go away. And whats with this really STUPID fashion this guy brings? You can dress a turd up in a tuxido.....but at the end of the day....it's still a turd. Kanye is a record execs puppet.

What KW said about GWB was uncalled for and pointless......it was about the residents of NO and what we, as citizens, could do to help those people. Just like an infantile, overrated, egotistical "celebrity" to make it all about himself. He took the spotlight off of the hurricane victims and made it all about himself and the stupid comment he made.
Caught "Austin Powers", his name is Mike Meyers, off guard? He embarrassed his colleague. He place Mike Meyers in a situation that was below the level of unfair. Typical KW!!!
    Shame!!!!

An inspiration? Really? His lyrics are inspiring? I don't understand how a man that raps (badly) about gold diggers and other nonsense can inspire one's life. The man is arrogant and obnoxious.

    KurvayshusB,
The point of going to college is to receive an education. Encouraging people not to educate themselves is bad advice.

As for seeing and hearing what somebody represents, I see what he represents. Himself. All of the time. I know unwarranted arrogance when I see it, and it's impossible not to see it all over that guy.
The man thinks that he is far, far more talented and influential than he actually is.
He says and does things that make him look like a total douche bag. Am I supposed to weed through every annoying thing he says to find out what's so great about him? I really don't have that kind of time and I doubt most people do either.

Who is Kanye West that he's worth listening to?

Our society spends too much time ogling and inflating the egos of questionably talented entertainers and wannabe singers who can't even keep their own lives straight...and we're supposed to look to them for advice and wisdom?

Sorry, but my dog gives better advice than 99% of the gurus out there, and he doesn't give any.

In my opinion, more power to him. I'm sure some people will buy his book, and of course there will be haters (like almost 99% of the morons in this post). I'm not for or against Kanye. Although I do like some of his songs, I also think he is very arrogant. You have to give this man credit. Hes a very well known artist/musician and making WAY more money than any of you people on this post, so stop hating him for making it big and having the life you could only dream about. Why hate on him for doing what he wants to do. I'm sure if any of you wrote a book only a handful of people would buy it (or let alone know you wrote one).

KurvayshusB, I have heard and seen all that anyone needs to hear and see to judge someone with his interviews, quotes and opinions. The man is a extremely unintelligent and I can only hope that any young person listening to his music just likes the sound of it and it ends there. God forbid someone tries to use him as a role model or an example of how to go through life, which his example is, "staggeringly stupid".

I loathe the fact that people call this guy a "talented lyricist." The man has yet to actually write his own songs, or at least write songs that anyone but him likes.

    Here's another "Kanyeism" for you:

A small church in the Dallas area was having a fundraiser, and thought it would be a good idea to have some "star talent" show up and sell some tickets. They decided Kanye West would be a good person to have, as he is all about Jesus, and at the time he was just getting big.

Well, Kanye informed this church (you know, those non-profit houses of worship?) that his appearance fee was $20,000.00. Actually, that's rather standard. So, the church had a fundraiser to have a fundraiser in effect.

They raised the $20,000.00 (which personally I would have called good and done, but that's my opinion) and paid to have Kanye show up. They advertised this, and sold many tickets to their event.

Kanye showed up 3 hours late. He sang one song, and a little piece of a second song and left. This jackass got paid $20,000.00 by a poor church for literally 15 minutes of work.

Frankly, his music is awful, not original and not even written by him. I wish everyone would stop giving this untalented hack the attention he so obviously craves.

Hey Kanye, do you like fishsticks?

There is one thing for certain......KW is either the most liked or most disliked performer in the world. Please notice that I did NOT refer to him as an artist, that is a special breed and KW just doesn't belong in that category. Now, having said that, I think he should write his book. By doing so it will finally put to rest this need to be seen and heard and will show what his skeptics already know about his inability to write and maybe, if his ego isn't that huge, he'll realize that he should have left things alone.
Who are his handlers, the people with whom he shares these nonsensical ideas? If he has these people in his entourage, he needs to take them off payroll because they should never allow him to take such a suicidal step. But, who knows, could turn out to be an hilarious thing and I for one could use a laugh.

Watch any live broadcast where this guy isn't lipsyncing, and you will hear how awful he is. Who cares if he's writing a book. If he writes books like he writes songs, then he'll just have someone else write it and then take credit for it later. Rap needs an enema!

And in addition to CNN being late in reporting this, I feel as though those who have commented on this posting before me have no idea what they are talking about. It appears that you know a *snap* worth of any information regarding Kanye West as an artist, only what you have heard of him in a tabloid somewhere. Kanye West has never condoned being uneducated. If you read his interviews and listen to his music, his whole theory of being the COLLEGE DROP OUT is stating that you should never go to college just to be going, especially if its for a career that you are not even sure you want to pursue. Follow your OWN dreams, not someone elses idea of what your dream should be. His book, which I already own, is actually pretty self motivating and light hearted. He is not attempting to be an award winning AUTHOR or find a spot in history as one of the greatest philosopher's ever. Just a little something to make you smile, think and hold your head up a little higher. If you people would stop judging by what you read about an artist and actually take a moment to SEE and HEAR for yourself what they represent, you'd save yourself the time of looking like a bunch of idiots speaking on something you know nothing about...

To listen to him speak, and watch his actions on TV, you can tell that he is an uneducated moron, and the fact that he is writing a book for people to read, is even more sickening. Furthermore, why all the hate because he's writing a book?? Don't read it hater. PJ makes the only worthwhile argument on this post...however I will say to you that if you listen to Kanye's music, in an otherwise Hip-Hop world of guns violence and drug sales, Kanye has been a breath of fresh air to the ears of many Black Youth. He's no Obama, and I'll agree that he is an arrogant self-absorbed prick at times....but after Millions upon Millions of production and artist royalty checks, I think its pointless to debate whether or not he has something to say that people will pay to listen to........

Oh, please...Can we call them "Tardisms"? The self-proclaimed non-reader is a "role model"? For whom? For what? One kid out of twenty or thirty MILLION will achieve the success of Mr. West- by chance, by talent, by perseverance. All the rest need a serious education; serious skill building; and some serious knowledge and experience. Kanye West's "isms" provide NONE of this. His dissing of books, education, smarts and real knowledge (not some stupid catchphrases) is the bullet African-American kids have been putting through their own heads for FAR too long.
