Adam Lambert and Queen?"American Idol" finalists Adam Lambert and Kris Allen performed with the legendary band Queen during the show's finale on May 20. But it was Lambert who caught Queen's eye - one band member told Rolling Stone magazine they were hoping to have a "meaningful conversation" with the young singer. Queen hasn't had a permanent lead vocalist since the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991. And Academy Award nominee Melissa Leo will be a mother to boxing half-brothers Dicky Eklund and Mickey Ward in the film "The Fighter." The brothers will be played by Mark Walhberg and Christian Bale. Plus Billy Joel is being sued by his former drummer; the drummer says Joel owes him money. CNN's KJ Matthews has more on these tidbits in today's buzz: |

I used to be suggested this blog by means of my cousin. I'm not certain whether this publish is written by means of him as nobody else realize such specific about my trouble. You are incredible! Thank you!
NO!!!! That is a terrible idea! TERRIBLE! Nobody will ever be able to take Freddie's place! I don't understand how anyone can even think that's a good idea. I didn't like the idea of Paul Rodgers touring with them, and I definetley don't like this idea. If a rock legend like Paul is not good enough to fill Freddie's shoes, this guy most definetley WILL NOT be. I can guarantee I will not be seeing or listening to any of Queen's new material with Adam Lambert. If he thinks he can ever live up to the awesome musical world that Freddie created, he better damn well think again.
Adam is awesome and incredibly talented. He doesn't need Queen but Queen needs him. Adam is a smart businessman and hopefully he realizes he is a hot commodity that everyone will attach themselves.
I would buy an Adam CD; probably not a Queen CD with Adam. Adam will be "Queen" and no longer Adam Lambert.
It would be better for him to go his own way and at a future point possibly do some guest gigs with Queen.
Either way, gay or not, drag queen or not, Adam is HOT.
ask yourself just 1 question and be honest......... if american idol was a radio program and no ones personal history was disclosed, who would have won?????????
Queen? Why join a re-tread act that should have stopped years ago....why haven't they had a permanent lead singer? because they're LAME and it's OVER for them.....what a waste of time....Adam should just put out his own album and be famous without once again resurrecting the careers of those old guys still calling themselves Queen..
no, No, NO! Adam stands alone! He doesn't need Queen. Solo career! He will soar on his own abiities...I am speechless every time I see him perform.
To rsgdbg,
you mean the AT&T-assisted-R-I-G-G-E-D one?
Oh I bet he DID catch their eye...lol.....
He should put out an album with them atleast...but I think he would be bigger on his own. After all, all the members of Queen are aging rapidly, where Adam is still youthful, incredibly artistic and vibrant. He will ultimately go much much farther then Kris.
Adam and Queen will be a great union. If Adam is smart (and I believe he is) he will create himself the opportunity to record and tour solo as well with Queen. It's his life, let him do what he prefers.
Adam has a great career ahead of him. Why would he want to join some OLD has-been band?
Before I even knew that Adam would be performing with Queen, I said to my husband that he would be the perfect front man for them because of his sound and theatrical talents. Go Adam!!
Fred is dead, therefore Queen is dead. Adam, please move on.
Where do I buy the album?
Very exciting! I hope tickets go on sale soon.
I think Adam would do good w/queen, and for a start thats not too bad. Adam is talented. he would not be replacing Freddie, only getting his own boost to get his music in. Adam is a good singer, he is very talented, and he is definetly a rock singer. it would do both Adam and Queen good to get together to make a record or two and then to do a tour or two. Adam is an awesome performer, and with the experience w/queen can only lead him to show much more of talents as a singer. its not a bad idea. between both adam and queen, it can work.
Adam is the best thing that has happened to music since Elvis Presley and I think he should milk it while he can and join Queen when the frenzy dies down, that is if it does!
Well, i think he is the best that american idol ever had. Queen would be a good idea to make a album but not to make a carrer, right know he has everyone talking about him so he should do his on carrer too. It's a shame that people in america continues to judge others, not by their talent but by their sexuality and the way they look. That's why he didn't win the show. They let the regular piano bar guy take this one, but it's not done....it's just the begning. Not a offense, i think kris is a decent singer but a guy like him you find everywhere, but a guy like Adam.....is one every lifetime...like miky jegger, fred mercury........ very hard to find. So think america!!!!!
To David Malli- I think Adam has proven that is more than a "one trick pony". He has sang songs from country, to motown, to rock, and the 70's w/ his own twist! He sang ballads w/out being over theatrical as you would put it. For example, "Tracks of My Tears"-that was a beautiful rendition! He even had the original singer/songwriter of that song giving him a standing ovation! He is the most original contestant Americal Idol has ever had! I've watched the show from the very first season and I have never looked forward to any contestant's performances as I have w/ Adam. He brought excitement to the show w/ his own twist. He has defined what Simon has advised the contestants every season-be original and make the song your own! I can imagine an album w/ all of Adam Lambert's songs. In fact, I actually have one w/ all the songs I purchased through I-Tunes w/ all his performances on Idol.
Queen or no Queen, Adam, you can make your own history. Do not limit yourself (talent) to one band because you have the whole world with you. You deserve every best thing the music world can offer. God bless!
if queen have any artistic dignity they wouldn't ask this kid to sing with them. if that happens they're name would be tarnished forever.
Adam ... Queen ... Adam ... my guess is that if this merger happens Queen and Adam will re-invent R&R in 2010. The possibilities are astounding. Adam's take on the oldies but goodies cross over all the boundaries and with Queen backing the will re-invent the genre. My guts are acking just thinking about the possibilities
check out this story about how at & T may have swayed votes to Kris Allen on purpose!!! This just came out on the New York Times web site 39 minutes ago.
I hope he doesn't join Queen. I think he should do other things on his own for a while. I want him to see what kind of music he will make on his own. He's so great!
Freddie Mercury was one of (if not the) greatest vocalists that ever lived, a complete showman and a brilliant writer. I have no idea whether Adam can live up to Freddie's diversity but if he is asked and decides to go ahead with it, the tour would be phenomenal! I do agree with other posters that he shouldn't lock himself in permanently though, or at least he should still put out his own music. On another note, as far as ANYONE'S sexuality goes, "Who *#$@ing cares???!!!! " Life is too short to waste so much energy on such a self-absorbed prejudice. Not to be judgemental, but I mean who would want to spend what small amount of time they have on this earth berating, belittling and "hating on" a whole group of people just because they are perceived as being different? (Oops, wait, – that would be Hitler...) That being said, "ADAM ROCKS!!!" Yeah baby! 🙂
It would be greaaaat, adam is awesomeee, love him, he is the best singer ever, and it´s perfect for Queen beacuse he is already a rockstar and the real american idol !!!!!!
Go adam Go !!!!!!!
I am really dissapointed since Adam didn´t win the show. He is a fabulous artist. He totally deserves the best! My family and I support him from Argentina.
ADAM ROCKS!!!
YES DEFFINATELY YES!!!!
Adam will be perfect for QUEEN. I hope he says Yes! He is a great singer and will be a great rockera!! I loved Adam from the first day of Idol! Keep going Adam=====you will be one of Americas great rock stars!!!! Good Luck!
american idol is a joke - you're all being fed a bunch of mindless crap - wake up - i can go to the mall and find ten people who can sing as well as any CONTESTANT on american idol. just sad - a joke - a sad commentary on our society, to be sure.
For those of us who are old enough to remember Queen in its heyday of the mid-70's to mid-80's we know just how illicit and renegade rock music was for us back then. I mean, com'on people–this is the iconic Freddie Mercury and the ever-monolithic British rock powerhouse QUEEN we are talking about here. Not just some radio-friendly contrived rock foursome put together by studio execs and helped along by professional writers who churn out hit singles for a myriad of bands. Back when I was in high school, Rock Royalty consisted of a very few select entities in the Rock Universe–namely QUEEN, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Van Halen, AC/DC, Metallica, just to name a few. These guys were the MASTERS of rock music–and I suppose those days are long over.
If there are some of us who are currently wishing that Adam is the heir appearant to the QUEEN legacy, then it might simply be because we want to hear Brian May & Co fill a 100,000 seat stadium just one more time and to hear Adam bring Freddie back to life just one more time singing "Another One Bites The Dust." Just one more time before it's all over for QUEEN and they really do retire once and for all. Then we would all sigh and be happy knowing that we were alive to actually see it happen.
If we see Adam added to a QUEEN foursome and they do go into a studio, write new material, release a new album featuring Adam's voice in the lead tracks–even though it would be Brian May on the guitars would the new stuff really sound like it was QUEEN to us?
I think adam would be a perfect fit for the band..........no pun intended
When I heard Adam and Queen perform together on Idol, I said to myself "That guy has the vocal range to fill the gap Freddie Mercury left'. It's not a replacement, but a turning of the page to Queen's legacy. They are an awesome band and Adam would fit in quite naturally. If there were EVER an opportunity for two finalists to win, this was the year for it. Adam and Kris were both very different, and BOTH very talented.
Go for it Adam....you will do well!
Ohhh NO!!!!
Freddie Mercury will be turning over in his grave!!!
Adam could NEVER do Freddie justice!!!!
what an AWFUL idea!!!!!!!!!
Queen used to rock.. Now they don't, so it makes sense they'd want some American moron for a frontman. Poor Freddie must be rolling in his grave.
I think the best thing for Adam and Queen would be a short tour. While Adam would not be "replacing" Freddie, he does have the vocal ability and showmanship to do the songs justice. I am too young to have seen Freddie live but love Queen's music and would pay big bucks to see Queen + Adam in concert.
I agree that it could be kind of cool. On Larry King Live, after a bit of prodding, Adam confirmed that Queen approached him about singing at several gigs for them. He said that he jumped at the chance and said yes, and that it would probably occur at the same time as the American Idol tour, but that was all he knew at this point.
He said that Queen has not asked him to become their permanent front man yet.
Listen, as a long time fan of Queen, nobody could ever replace Freddie. But that doesn't mean that Queen no longer has an active place in the music world. If AC/DC can continue on making good music after Bon Scott died, why not Queen? Brian and Roger own the rights to the Queen brand and I'm sure that they would maintain the quality of music. They are still top drawer musicians and songwriters who have lost nothing in their skills. They just lost their very theatrical, charismatic frontman who had insane vocal skills. There is probably a lot of new songs in them that they just couldn't record because they couldn't find someone who can sing the kind of music they write.
Lambert is very similar to Freddie in those areas (I didn't say equal), so it could be interesting. Next to Freddie, Lambert is just a bit rough around the edges yet. He could learn a LOT from Queen about songwriting.
Queen's music is very theatrical vocally, and their songs require a vocalist who can encompass a wide range of genres. From the hard rock Tie Your Mother Down to the subtle ballad of You Take My Breath Away to the rockabilly Crazy Little Thing Called Love to the operatic Bohemian Rhapsody.
Queen needs someone like Lambert, who comes from that kind of background, for it to work. A blues or metal singing style doesn't fit well with Queen's music. That's why Paul Rodgers and all the Tribute Concert singers felt so wrong. They could each replicate aspects of Freddie's style, but no one could duplicate all of it.. George Michael was able get it right when he sang '39 and Somebody To Love, but I could never imagine him singing Killer Queen or Bohemian Rhapsody.
Adam is the first singer that I have heard in a very long while that probably could do it all.
Not a good idea. Adam should focus on his career and not try to revive the career of Queen. Don't get me wrong, I love Queen but Adam should be his own man not a replacement and besides no one but no one can ever replace Freddie.
This guy has an AMAZING voice! I'm completely in awe of him . <3
qeen is so awesome they{"re my favorite band!!! ; ) But, I HATE Adam Lambert!!!!!!!!!!!! >: (
This is the wosrt thing Queen could do.... Freddy would be turrning over in his grave if this happens..... I think this is the worst idea ever.... Queen is to good for this.... Why is this guy so popular?? What do people see that I don't see. I think he has no real talent. all he does is scream. He is a one trick pony, He screams.... Queen is NOT a screaming band. The vocals that Freddy gave were so amazing that NO one could ever meet the standards. Adam Lambert for sure could NEVER do ANY of the songs justice. All he would do is kill the band. Queen is still rocking harder than ever and it would be a shame to see them go down in flames with this no talent, screaming, "Pretty boy" as their front man.... I am a HUGE Queen fan and would be ashamed to call myself one if Adam joins the band... I just feel like it would be a bad move.....
As soon as I heard Adam singing with Queen, I immediately thought he'd be a perfect fit if Brian and the boys decided to go on tour. While I've been a hugh Paul Rodgers fan since his days in Free and Bad Company, he was never a long-term fit as Freddie's replacement. Rodgers has a great rockin' blues voice; gritty but not the right style for Queen. Whereas as Mercury's was very operatic; much like Adam's, and PLEASE forget George Michaels. Aside from the lack of vocal range, there's a whole lot of baggage and BAD music the core Queen fans would never accept. Adam showed he's got the range needed as well as a stage presence...the boy can rock.
I'm still sad about Adam not wining AI this year... Can't get over it 🙁
Okay, first I have to say I've been one of the biggest Queen fans ever since I was about 11 (I'm 28 now..), and I am currently a professional touring musician currently, full time... So I definitely have knowledge on both Queen and Musicianship.. get that out of the way before I'm yelled at..
Adam Lambert, got a good voice, and he's got a good stage presence.. BUT, people forget this VERY important fact though.. can he write music? Can he play any instruments? No. He's admitted he can't.
I love Queen, do I think he's a fit for Queen? I'll say he's much better a fit than Paul Rodgers, because Paul never quite had the camp that Adam could bring.. Adam will bring the camp that Freddy had.. maybe not the seriousness and hard rock that Freddie could pull off too, but he'll definitely bring the camp..
Remember, people. Adam can't write music. about 95% of all singers that do not write their own material or can play any type of musical instrument have a longevity of at least 5 years.. Adam's best bet for some type career longevity would be to join a band like Queen who has a built-in fan base to gain their trust and respect, and learn from the pros of how to craft a 'real' song, not some song written by some pop writer sitting in the nashville hills... THEN after he's established himself with Queen, sure, why not.. break off.. you've go the Queen fans (which they are the biggest band in the world outside of the US, still...) AND the American Idol fans.. It's the smartest career move he could do. Queen's fans are going nowhere right now, and in a pop world where you are only as big as your current single, that is a goldmine for this guy...
Good luck bud, you'll need it..!
Sorry to be out of topic. I wished that people had done their reseach but Arnel Pineda, lead singer of Journey was not discovered in a karaoke contest, Neal Schoon had discovered him in YouTube and have five straight days audition with them. Journey is now one BIG rock bank across the world with sell out arenas, Revelation, their newest album is a double platinum seller in only one chain retailer distributer. Journey now is very HOT and it is now an envy of any classic rock band. Joan is partially correct, but Kate, please before opening your mouth do your assignment to avoid embrassment. FOR ADAM AND QUEEN, It can be done!!
I can't understand why so many people think this is a good idea? Maybe it's just the AI nuts out there. Real music fans understand this won't work. If it didn't work out with Paul Rodgers, why on earth would it work out with this nobody?
If it's simply a collaboration for a song or two, fine. But naming him the new singer is just ludacris. Finish second in a rigged show and join one of the biggest bands ever...laughable.
I'm sure it would be an honor for Adam to make an appearance with Queen. But he deserves to be his own rising star with his own music and own band.
I honestly would hope that Adam would just Tour with Queen, one comment I read on here is that "right now, the world is at his feet" which I agree. I say, Adam go on a few tours (okay...maybe more than a few tours) with Queen then launch a solo career at the same time. The tours would be such a great platform to start off on. Queen fans (such as myself) would be extatic! Plus this could give Adam experiance to use for a solo outing. Thoughts?
Hold it now......
Let Adam make his own way and develop his style before sending him off to a already formed group. He could be so much bigger than Queen. Maybe the next Elvis.........
Adam, don't rush it..... take your time. We will buy your CDs no matter what.
Let's be honest: the main reason why Adam is being considered for that position is because him, same as Freddy, are both gay.
Everyone in my office is really sick of all this freaky ADAM hype. Give it a rest – he's just another lame-o wannabe-rocker whose real place is on Broadway... or the gay clubs. Listen to his music on MySpace & it's all techno club/dance crap. Let the MARY shine on the dance charts & be rid of him. He'll never make mainstream music like his OTT fans are pissing their pants for.
No, not a good idea. A 30-year-old band is not exciting for young record buyers. I hope Adam puts together a band of his own, as Chris Daughtry did.
This would be a good move for Adam. Brian May did a lot of the writing for Queen. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live with the Brian May band shortly after Freddie died. As much as Freddie was the Voice and major contributor to Queen you could see Brian was a major factor as well. The experience alone would do nothing but help Adams career.
We all have our opinions on singers being replaced in bands but it has worked in a few. Take AC/DC for example. Lets give him a shot.
As long as it's, "Queen, featuring Adam Lambert," I say, "Rock On!"
Adam would make an "idol" front man for Queens but he should explore all his options. This is just the begining for him!
I'm an pretty sure Freddy Mercury is rolling over in his grave right now.
Adam's too young for Queen. He should front his own band with musicians his own age and rock on with his bad ol' self.
Queen was great in their day but somehow I think that Adam fronting a group of old dinosaurs can't be good for (any chance) he might have at becoming an icon. I really do think that Adam has the qualities that Freddy had not to mention some Elvis traits and Axle's voice. I think he could front G&R too but that would be too selfish of us. Adam needs to be Adam and if he doesn't make it with his own ORIGINAL material there's always a spot for him in an old man band.
You stink Chuck, Queen will never be a old washed up band! Although there is an age difference.
Whatever Adam does, I hope he does it HIS way, and that we get to watch him do it.
What a sensational performer he is.. He IGNITES in front of an audience.
ADAM<–You have NO idea how much passion there is out there for you.
Stay strong.
The marginalization of pop music continues. It's bad enough that a show like American Idol exists.
Now, a once great band is contemplating being fronted by a half rate singer. The Queen legacy is officially ruined. I used to have respect for Queen and love their music, this is absurd and a weak attempt for the band to try to stay relevant. A pathetic possibility and Freddie must be rolling over in his grave.
STOP THE SLIDE OF POP MUSIC INTO THE TOILET and TAKE IT BACK FROM THOSE WITH NO TALENT!
Adam is an amazing singer and performer. If his style and music are not your thing, that is fine, but to bring up his sexuality (which is none of your business and completely irrelevant) just shows how small-minded and stupid you are as a person. His talent can not be questioned. And by the way...being 'gay' is not a bad thing...just like being 'black' isn't a bad thing or being a 'women' isn't a bad thing. Seriously, can people arrive in the 2000's already? He has a dynamic personality and seems to be a really nice human being....the fact that he is gorgeous doesn't hurt either. Perhaps it's all too much for some people so they have to find fault in him. I'm not a Kris Allen fan, but I respect the fact that he appeals to other people. I wish him the best as well. Maybe those filled with negativity should take a page out of Kris and Adam's book and choose to overlook differences and embrace what is good about others. Queen had some great songs and Adam is a great singer, if he does something with them it will be awesome. I agree though that he is destined for even bigger and better things. He is exactly what AI hopes to find in people, the 'whole package' and 'world-wide superstar' power. I'm thrilled for him and his success and I feel sorry for everyone who is so sad in their one lives that they have to try to hurt other people. I could care less if he is gay or straight, and I know most women share that opinion. As long as I get to look at him and hear him sing I will be eternally happy.
To be considered by Queen alone is already an honor. Adam, you can always learn from the best. I'd love to see collaborations as in stadium concerts in homage to Freddie and a new album to reintroduce Queen's legacy to a new generation. Freddie is unique but Adam has the exceptional talent and charisma to do justice to Queen's music.
Yes, and make a film about Freddie as well!
Kate....Journey are playing to sold out stadiums, arenas to upwards to 20,000+ on their European Tour and have stops in every major city in the U.S., at Coliseums and Concert Mega Houses. It can be done and it an be done successfully. They are raking in millions of dollars, so the karaoke singer, although definitely not Steve....is working and selling tons upon tons of tickets.
That being said, I still think Adam needs to do his own band but AFTER he has done the tour with Idol...if he even does it and then talk with Queen and Gene Simmons and apparently Velvet Revolver and then consider all of his options, as there are numerous and then do what is best for Adam.
I can't believe I'm the first person to comment on Billy Joel getting sued...wait, yes I can.
According to Itunes, Adam is topping the charts in music downloads, video downloads, album downloads and single downloads and he's ahead of Kris in EVERY category. And he's within the top 10 for all charts, not just once but 2-3 times. One thing we did get right was that we have started to PAY for our music....at least they will make money from ITunes and it also proves that the adult world, those with money and a credit card and not pirating from the frosty sites; are supporting BOTH finalists but more are supporting Adam. Adam will make it regardless of what band he joins, be it Velvet Revolver, KISS, Queen or his Own Band...which is what he SHOULD done and maybe tour with the above as the guest act or do a tour WITH them and share the stage...like they all did in 1985 with Band Aid....gosh and Freddie was the Headliner that Night!!!
Um....HE IS NOT FREDDY MERCURY!!!!! WHAT A LAME IDEA! Is this a joke? How can you even compare this vampire wanna-be with the one of the GREATEST vocalists and showmen of all time? Come on, not even in the same league....GIMME A BREAK PEOPLE!!!
Let's all not get too excited about the idea of Adam becoming the frontman of Queen. It is VERY rare that such a change has success... and even the times when they do work (Van Hagar), there are plenty that argue it is never the same (and, in the case of Van Halen, that was only successful because they were at or near the height of their success when the change was made). Another "successful" change might be Genesis... but they were no Queen, and they too were at the heights of popularity when Phil Collins replaced Peter Gabriel.
Adam is talented, no doubt about it. But Freddy Mercury had far more than an other-worldly voice and powerful stage presence... he was also a master of the sublime powers of Rock. Queen had anthems and the most-popular song of all time, but with Freddy's dynamic range they were able to deliver stories like "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", "Somebody To Love", "Radio Ga Ga" and SOOOO many more. The equivalent would be able to be a great dramatic actor one minute, a comedian the next, and an action hero to close it out... and Freddy would do that all in one night, and then some.
The first thing that Adam would have to do is prove that he is more than the one trick pony, and act that I feel cost him the Idol Finale... Can he do more than HIS schtik? He can be dramatic and he can sing, but can he add to his repertoire? At this point he seem only capable of Broadway theatrics, and great rock is more than that. And even if he can expand his talents... replacing Freddy Mercury shoes will likely be impossible. Quite honestly, I think people are over-estimating Adam's talents because, well, like many things in life, they are great in small doses... but imagine listening to a full album of Adam's work, if it was anything like and AI performance it would be utterly exhausting (another reason why I think Kris won... once Adam had to perform more and more as the contestants dwindled, his creativity and uniqueness wasn't as compelling).
Adam would do best on his own anyways. He has a passionate fan-base that he can ride to stardom without the burden of the shadow cast by Queen. As a solo artist, or the frontman of his own band, he'll also be able to carve out his own niche, expanding his skills, and defining who HE is.
But... if you're Brian May et. al... this is a great opportunity to cash in on somebody else's 15 minutes of fame. Does anyone remember the work that The Doors put out after Jim died, or even think of Styx as a great band after Dennis DeYoung... but they all squeezed the last bit out of the cow? THAT is what this is really about I sense, making a last dash for cash, and Adam will be the one that pays.
I think Adam would do an excellent job as the new front man for Queen (not as the new Freddie Mercury- that's not what the band is looking for anyway). However, Adam would also do an excellent job singing TV theme songs and I don't think that would be a wise move for him, either. He's an excellent singer- he would be amazing singing anything you put in front of him to sing!! But just because he's a brilliant singer doesn't mean he has to jump at the first opportunity being presented to him. There will be many, many, many more offers. Producers aren't dumb. They have seen the attention Adam has created and they want to get in on some of that attention, too.
We've had to endure all season of AI just to have Adam put out a solo album. Please, Adam, we're all anxious to hear what YOU are going to do!!
What next? Susan Boyle to replace John Lenon in the Beatles ?
Gimme a break !
Anything to sell a story, huh ET?
I don't necessarily think it's a good idea for Adam to join Queen at this juncture in his career. He needs to explore all avenues before hooking up with a band at this time.....that's not to say I don't absolutely love Queen...I do, but Adam has so much more to give. I'm just suggesting that he take it slow in order not to tie himself down until he is sure of what HE wants.
I stand by the statement that Queen were never relevant. Nor was Kiss. I can't wait for Mr. Simmons to get his money-grubbing hands on Adam Lambert's career. He'll ruin that like he's ruined everything else he's ever touched. Non-relevance begats non-relevance.
Please no! Yes, Adam would be awesome singing with Queen, but they are WAY too old for him (nothing personal – I'm almost that old myself). These guys are not going to hold it together much longer. Adam is fresh and young. He should start his own band and do his own thing. Not take over someone else's issues. Can't wait for the album – whatever it is!!!!
I love Queen, but, I think Adam should really do his own thing. He is so talented he doesn't have to join anyone, he can make it on his own. This reminds me of Chris Daughtry and his decision to form his own band.
To those who are asking, yes Paul Rodgers has left Queen. He has returned to Bad Company for the time being. He said he is open to doing one-offs for charity but otherwise is finished with Queen for now. This American Idol clown doesn't have the talent that Freddy (or Paul for that matter) have in their left shoe. Can he even write a song? That's the main thing, people!
I didn't watch idol – so bits & pieces, and Adam seems like a fit for Queen. But with his popularity, would'nt he want his own career rather than singing would essentially be covers?
Chris Daughtry said 'no' to Fuel or Filter, can't remember who exactly, and it was the best decision he ever made. Why be trapped right off the bat? He needs to make his own name on his own laurels.
I think Freddie would be rolling over in his grave....makes me sick to my stomach to think such a fake performer would be offered such a role.
I really don't see this as a victory, if going through idol to just end up with Queen is the prize it doesn't make sense.
ewww.....i know i'm going to get a lot of comments for my comment but i don't really feel like he would be a good fit for queen. kiss...for sure but queen....NO NO NO NO NO!!!
It is an insult to Freddy to compare this no talented screamer to him.
Ugh...
What a shame. This would be a horrible thing. Freddie Mercury was the "face" of Queen. The only thing Adam Lambert would be good for is as a drag queen. Journey got a new singer through a karaoke contest and look how well they've done. Just leave well enough alone and let him ruin his own career.
"Journey got a new singer through a karaoke contest."
..........a notion seemingly perpetuated by some music writers too lazy or too biased to do their job right.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnel_Pineda
Arnel Pineda is a Filipino singer-songwriter who has had a successful musical career in Asia for the last 25 years. Neal Schon of Journey discovered Youtube videos of Arnel uploaded by a fan and subsequently invited him to audition.
Seems like a good choice for Queen to select Adam, but I don't think it would be a good choice for Adam to choose Queen.
It would get him more exposure, but he would lose his identity in a band of much elder gents.
Don't do it Adam!! You can do anything you want, don'g pigeon hole yourself. Don't set yourself up for comparison to one of Rock's legendary voices, don't be Sammy Hagar. Go out and rule the world on your own terms.
When I saw Adam Lambert sing with Queen, I also thought I had not heard anyone sing like that since Freddy Mercury.
Rose,
Adam didn't CHOOSE to be second on AI. There was a V-O-T-E, remember?
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME... PERFECT FIT
It would be a great opportunity for Adam to work with a legendary rock band, and if done properly, can make Queen a force to be dealt with on the charts again. Sure, do the classic Queen music, but do something new, too. A win-win, assuming it does not absolutely tie Adam to one thing. We've seen several front men have solo careers, so it could work here as well.
God NOOOO!!!!!!! I can't stand his screeching voice and his poser looks. Do you own thing!
Adam would be the perfect infusion needed to revive this legendary band. I also think that AI contestant Michael Johns (from last year?) would have been an excellent replacement for Michael Hutchins of INXS. Unfortunately, they chose a poser from Canada...
Great idea to have Adam Lambert do Rock & Roll. This may be the only way to prevent his career from getting murcked up by the eventual insipid Idol "Up With People" songs that the winners and runners up are forced to record. We need Rock & Roll back! No, the cry-baby rocker trend like Green Day and Linkin Park is fine, but we need real ROCK & ROLL! Adam would be better served with Nine Inch Nails or Korn....that is the style we want in the mainstream.
Personally, I think that Queen has to lay it to rest. Freddie Mercury is irreplaceable.
Brian May should just buy an island in the Carribbean and relax and get a nice tan. Maybe write a musical or two.
In response to Chris's comment:
"I find it amusing that even Brian May seems to be unable to look past Adams theatrics and look at the true lack of vocal range Adam has."
One thing to say to you: Get thee to the nearest drug store stat and buy a box of something called Q-Tips. You clearly need them!
Other than the fact that Freddie Mercury was a phenomenal singer and Lambert can't sing worth a dime, this is a shoe-in.
No doubt Adam has the pipes for it and a lot of the same charisma. But nothing can bring back Freddie Mercury and that's what it seems the rest of the band is looking for. Maybe do a tour together of Queen songs just for grins and greenbacks but Adam's young and he has his own path to follow; he isn't meant to be a stand-in for Freddie Mercury.
After all we heard on the internet about Adam, please don't join Queen. I don't think you would be perfect and you would not get to sing your own anything. And it would not be Adam Lambert and Queen, it would be Queen and you just a singer.
the only true replacement for freddy mercury would be george michael, once they realize that, QUEEN WILL LIVE AGAIN!!!!
I totally disagree on having Adam as Queen's new frontman. Maybe a benefit concert, but nothing more. Adam is the most original singer in quite a while. He needs to do his own thing, establish his own mark. Singing Queen songs doesn't sound original and my guess is that Adam already has plans for his career.
I admire Adam and think he has an extraordinary talent and beautiful voice. But.....he is no Freddy Mercury. Freddy had THE most perfect voice I have ever heard. Sorry, Adam -love you but don't think you can fill those shoes.
Love Paul Rodgers, but he and Queen never not seem like a good fit to me.. Paul would be a better fit for Velvet Revolver or rejoin with his blokes in Bad Company permanently (10 show summer tour this year is not enough)... This kid Adam would be a good fit for Queen although you could never truly replace Freddie Mercury...
To gfdghshsd:
That is relevant, WHY?
He'd probably be a good fit with Queen – if he can write. Queen's latest album [with Paul Rodgers was sub-par]. Horrible fit there with Rodgers.
Problem is that the remaining two of Queen [May & Taylor] are aging. Feels to me like they are trying to milk the Queen name. I'm sure it was one reason why Deacon left.
Because of the age difference, I do not think it would be wise for Adam to join Queen. I'd like to see Adam form his own band as Chris Daughtry did. Adam is an extreme talent and I look forward to his first release.
Adam – Do it on your own! Don't join an old band.
There are rumours everywhere that Adam was being offered spots to KISS, Slash, Queen and a long list of Radio Giants....LONG before Idol ever finished. There's also the rumour that he was given the option of winning OR taking another direction and going with one of the bands to launch his solo career INFRONT of adoring legion of Rock Royalty. Nobody seems to be disputing or contradicting the rumours just that they are under contract with 19 right now and until the tour is over, nobody can say anything. Adam WITH Queen is a path that was mean to be. But Adam needs to LAUNCH and do a few shows with them, maybe a short tour, and then get into the recording studio, with weight behimd him, as he wants Slash on guitar and record a fabulous Rock album. It's an honour, even Gene Simmons has offered him a guest spot on their summer tour. But I have to laugh out loud and spew flies at the guy who wrote that Queen is NO LONGER Relevant. What rock did you find your relevance facts? They are a listed inspiration for mega famous current band, the most notable being Dream Theater. Their appearance on American Idol is being hailed as the single most greatest moment in the shows history. Freddie Mercury was the singer and the front man and the legend, but the band is and always will be RELEVANT. They still write music for household names, produce and play across the Universe and play to packed stadiums of 20.000 + on a regular basis...relevant? They never stopped.
While Adam would be ideal for Queen, he is young, fresh, and creative. Tying himself to an established band could keep him pigeonholed. Better for him to make special appearances with Queen, than to be Freddie's replacement permanently.
Adam is amazing. I think he would be so much more successful on his own. Even though Queen is timeless, Adam is fresh and needs people along his side who are too.
Queen died when Freddie died, and it should stay that way. No offense to Paul Rodgers or this American Idol kid, but sometimes bands just need to stay dead. Can you imagine Nirvana with a singer other than Kurt Cobain? Same thing goes with The Doors...without Jim Morrison, they just weren't The Doors. If Queen wants to go on, they should add this kid and rename the band.
"And thus would come the death of Queen"??
You mean the resurrection. They've been off main-stream radar so long, I didn't even know they were still together as a band.
i love Queen and think it would be a great offer to maybe do some songs with them, but I love Adam too much for him to be pigeonholed into a band that has limited fan base. I want to hear from Adam more often than i would if he were with Queen. Again, I think it is a great honor for him but I want to hear him do his own thing more than revive the Queen/Freddie Mercury sound. He is young and pertinent and with Queen he would just be a sound alike, he is too talented for fronting a band in my opinion.
Adam would be fantastic. He has the theatrical qualities to do it – he would think nothing of wearing the outfits Freddie wore! A perfect match!
Adam is a true talent and would be a great compliment to any band.Sounds like Pablo wants some of Adam but is too chicken to admit it.
Queen needs Adam more than Adam needs Queen.
He would be great with them, BUT he should focus on his solo career first because although I've liked Queen when Freddie was still around, they are sort of an old rock group and Adam is so much more "now". I think he may end up just doing a few special appearances with them when they're touring. I can't wait for Adam's first album, it's going to be soooo good!
It could be a good place for Adam to "START", but not to have a long contract w/them. Adam could get a lot of excellent experience and knowledge about "the busineAdam more than Adam needs Queen. ROCK-ON ADAM!!! -peace-love-hope-light-love- ...
I think Adam did well Queen's music.
What this 'story' and all these posts fail to mention is anything at all about Paul Rodgers, the none-too-shabby, not-Freddy-either recent voice of Queen, and whether he is leaving the band now or soon. And he is certainly no reality TV guy, whoever came up with that one. There are some Bad Company shows this summer so perhaps he's returning to that 'old guy' band. As for this, I don't see a young guy like Adam Lambert, however much he reminds some of the 'flamboyant' Freddie and however well his voice works, becoming a permanent front man for a band that was making hits before he was born. He's got his own thing to do.
And thus would come the death of Queen.
He would make a perfect fit for Queen, I wish him the best! To the person who said this –
Please no. The Queen name should’ve died with Freddie. And there’s just something creepy about a band of guys in their sixties with a singer a third their age.
^^^ You don't know what you're talking about.
Adam's fans are ready to propel him to stardom on his own. He should go solo or get his own band. He is good at so many different types of music, Queen would be limiting.
This would be an awful disservice to Freddie. Adam can do some songs well, and can act as flamboyant as Freddie- yes. Adams voice however- can't even come close to hitting the notes a talented singer should be able to hit- muchless a singer of Mercury's caliber. I find it amusing that even Brian May seems to be unable to look past Adams theatrics and look at the true lack of vocal range Adam has.
He would be horrible! Freddy Mercury had awesome talent! Adam does not.
I love Queen, but I do not think any one can feel Freddie's shoes and I like Adam and he will do a great job where ever or what ever he decides to do with his singing career. He has amazing talent. I say wait and see what is offered to you. Then go with that.
I pray that he just does a tribute thing or something with Queen–nothing steady.
Adam is past all of that now–he needs to SOAR> WE LOVE YOU ADAM!!!
He would be perfect for Queen !
I can think of NONE better. He's got the pipes and (most of) the stage presence of Freddie.
No one can "REPLACE" Freddie Mercury, but Adam is the best candidate to succeed him in recent years.
"Please no. The Queen name should’ve died with Freddie. And there’s just something creepy about a band of guys in their sixties with a singer a third their age."
@ BF: Just because Freddie died doesn't mean the other other guys have to give up their music careers. And they were just as much a part of that band as Freddie. And lastly, I don't think Freddie would WANT them to give up their careers just because he's gone. There are very few guys in their 60s who can hold those impossible notes, so a guy a third their age would fit the bill. I think it would be awesome if Adam joined Queen, and I for one, would gladly cough up some concert dollars to see it. I think Freddie is somewhere smiling at this prospect....
he is gay
I am SO excited about this prospect. Adam would be perfect! I've been a long-time Queen fan, but could never get into the band without Freddie. If anyone could step into his shoes, it's Adam. He's got the vocal chops and charisma to pull it off.
I just hope his association with American Idol doesn't turn him off from the bands' legions of fans. They're really going to need to forget about that aspect of his past and give him a fair chance. They will not disappointed!
Adam, "life has just begun"!
I agree with some of the posts. Adam should consider doing SOME songs with Queen. I always loved Queen and I am in the same age group as they are. I love Adam and I feel that while he can make some headway with the group they are too old for him. Perhaps a Queen II can be created? Who knows. But think about how long they have to go yet...they are in their 60's and getting pretty old. They have maybe 5 years left. Adam has at least 30 years. I think that with his diversity he can make it alone or start his own type of Queen group. He will be bigger than Carrie and all the others combined. While Queen can help to advance his career by having him guest with the band he can get further on his own without the limiting of what the current Queen will do. His creative juices will be stymied if he joins the band and he will have to listen to them because he is the new guy – lead or not. No, Adam, think about making a couple of appearances with them but look for your own highway to travel. You are terrific.
OH yeah...that was INXS. HA
but whatever...QUEEN is made up of old men. why would adam be a good fit? ODD. i dont see it.
Will the band be renamed Queen and the Princess ;).
Seriously, it would probably work.
Adam is perfect for Queen, and that would be a huge success!
My concern is that it could limit his amazing artistic abilities, and I agree that they should maybe get some younger guys to play with him..
So is Paul Rodgers gone then, he had fronted the group successfully for the last few years. Maybe a one song collaboration with Queen would be good, but it would be a mistake to make it a long term arrangement. Adam's too talented to simply be a replacement singer. As for Inxs, they've let JD Fortune go so they're without a singer again. Maybe a singer via a reality show isn't the best way to go...
Queen haven't been relevant in over 25 years. If they ever really were.
He sounded great with Queen- there was no comparison between him and Kris when they sang together! He should join permanently!
Adam should be having "meaningful conversations" with several possible bandmates. I'm thinking he is the reason Slash wanted to join AI. He has caught the attention of so many!
Queen was amazing in their day...but Adam...he's a talent unlike others out there at the moment. He has the opportunity to create a band who like Queen – changed history. Whatever he does, I'd buy!
i dont think its a great idea on the basis that though queen was a great band brian may and roger tayler are old and way past their prime. his best bet would to start up his own band but i do think it would be awesome if they worked together to make an album and with permision lambert can carry on their name.
Argh! From Paul Rodgers to this guy? Can he even write a song? Bad choice Brian May, bad choice! History has proven you can't pick a new singer from a TV show, look at INXS and Rock Star Supernova.
NOOOOOOOOOO.........Freddie Mercury is Queen, was Queen, he cannot be replaced.
George Michael would be a much better frontman for Queen based on his Tribute to Freddie Mercury performance.
I know there would be many – many Queen fans that would not be happy about this at all. I don't deny his talent but Adam is not all that.
There has never been as dramatic a singer since Freddy Mercury's departure. Lambert will fit like a beaded metal glove.
Bad decision for Adam. It's not like he'd be able to have longevity in a group like Queen. Another person stated it, but it seems rather limiting and quite possibly a bad decision.
It seems like an honor to be even thought of playing with Legends like Queen, however Adam needs to go his own direction.
I can't see it being a longterm thing - it would stifle Adam too much to walk in Freddie's footsteps rather than do his own original stuff. But they could do it for a one-time limited engagement and have a great time.
This is a terrible idea. Adam is not fit to fill Freddie Mercury's shoes. He lacks the mystique, and yes, the voice. Sorry, fanbois, you're just flat wrong on this.
What a fantastic idea! I haven't been a queen fan in a while, but this would certainly get me interested again. Adam could sing anything, but his true calling is defintely ROCK. He has power, pitch and charisma – you can't teach this stuff.
When I saw Adam perform with Queen, I was impressed and hopeful that there could be such a union. I am a huge Queen fan. Freddie Mercury was very glam in the early days and mellowed out in the 80's. He was an amazing singer and perfomer and could command a stage like no other. I think Lambert would be a perfect fit. I saw Queen + Paul Rodgers in concert. Paul was good, and voiced that he was not trying to replace Freddie. He sang well, but did not have any kind of Freddie-factor that is needed. I think Lambert would revitalize Queen. I don't think Queen needs to have a gay or bisexual lead to have amazing music. Lambert has amazing stage presence and an umbelieveable voice. I cringed the night a few years ago on Idol when the contestants sang their songs. The only good one was Chris Daughtry singing Innuendo ( a lesser known song). Not everyone can sing Queen and make it authentic. I'd say Lambert is better than the attempts made by Paul Rodgers and George Michael.
Do it Adam! You're brilliant and deserve to perform with the best!
You should have won but I'm glad you didn't because now you are free to be as wild as you want and that's what we fans want!!!!!!
I would buy any album from Adam, with him part of Queen or by himself. I would prefer for him to go by himself, but who knows? We'll see it all come together soon enough.
i would love to see adam out there doing this.
i hope that it isn't a ploy for queen to get their publicity tho...
adam is the real thing and i cannot wait to get his first album.
if it's with queen then sobeit!
i love adam!!
I think that Adam is a multi-talented young man. I was very impressed when he sang Smokey Robinson's song. I feel that he would be a great asset to Queen. Good luck to Adam.
This would be a perfect fit if this is what the young man wants to do. With his vocal range, I would like to see him become more versatile, which would bring joy to many more fans.
This is awesome. Adam should sing with Queen and also do a solo Album. I would fly anywhere to see Adam perform with Queen.
This would be a huge mistake for Adam. Adam has more potential than to become the lead singer for an old, washed-up rock band.
This would be great but I would rather he did something on his own first.
A young kid playing with a bunch of old fogies? No thank you. If Adam wants to be successful, he'll do it on his own, or with a band that hasn't already made a name for itself.
I've been saying for a while that Adam reminded me of Freddy Mercury – his theatrics and voice style.
Fuel is not the same as Queen. You turn down Fuel because they were an okay band from the 90's. You seriously consider fronting Queen because they are still huge with a matching fanbase, and Adam isn't going to make a poprock album like Daughtry.
He is an absolute perfect fit with Queen, but it won't happen. Queen is one of the greatest rock bands ever, but they are way past their prime. I think Adam would succeed more going in his own direction.
I certainly like what came of INXS adding young blood to their group – I bet this would work out well too.
I love Queen, but I wonder if it is to Adam's best interests to be a member of a band whose best moments were before he was born. I don't see a problem him touring as an opening act to get the experience, but I think he would be better off concentrating on his own career.
Freddy is rolling over in his grave. First his band picks a lead singer from one reality show. Now it's considering one from another? Give me a break. Why not find a REAL talent.
Well of course Adam would well suit Queen, However I think queen is to far gone for Adam. Maybe do some music with them, but not the new permanent. Adam has the world at his fingertips. His voice is amazing and there is no other idol that can touch him as long as he doesn't get a big head like some of the others (Carrie and Clay) Look where it got Clay...
Adam do your thing rock out with everyone... have fun!
Adam is fabulous. I think a video should be made of his Small World.
When he came out in the fog, in the long, black coat and sang so
beautifully - the best of any Idol - ever.
No one can sing like Freddy Mercury, but Adam did great with them and I think it would be a great fit! i think he'd be great singing as lead for KISS too!
They couldn't choose anyone more perfect to lead the band.
I was saying that over a month prior to the appearance with Queen...it just made sense!
Why would Lambert want to join what is now essentially a tribute band at this point in his career? Queen is great, but they are really no longer relevant. I'd be shocked if he decided to do this.
Adam is the most original singer AI has ever had so far. It was just matter of time when Qeeen will rock us with Adam's performance.
Hey, That's a pretty good offer. Perhaps Adam has some interesting change ups to Queen's repertoire. They are all quite a bit older than Adam. Would he feel comfortable as the new "Front" guy? Is Queen ready for new youthful input? I'm sure Adam has a few offers being made to him that are very worthy of condideration. Hopefully none that will put him into obscurity.
I think Adam would be a good fit but I think its too early for him to nail him down to one type of music.....He is so versatile and so talented....why commit so early? Wait and weigh all options
I think it's great, but I would love to see Adam keep his options open. He has so much talent and charisma. I'm certain many opportunities will come his way.
I think Adam can make it on his own. Chris Daughtry was fine without joining Fuel.
That would be excellent. Finally someone with vocals that can compare with Freddy Mercury's.
Its a win win situation..Adam fits perfectly, is flamboyant enough and woould give Queen the facelift they need.
Adam would be fantastic...best AI ever!!! The only thing is that Queen will need to get some new, younger members...otherwise Adam will be fronting a balding, graying, rickety rock band.
It was meant to be.
He is the only one qualified to do Freddie Mercury and more. Adam is undoubtedly the most talented musical discovery of late.
Please no. The Queen name should've died with Freddie. And there's just something creepy about a band of guys in their sixties with a singer a third their age.
I think Adam was offered the job prior to the finale and that is why he didn't win, HE chose second so he wasn't under AI's thumb. I'm glad Kris won though.
He would be good if Queen was just interested in performing covers of their old songs, but Freddie was a major writting partner and artistic leader of the band. He is irreplacable in that sense.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Adam. Can't wait for the first US tour of the new Queen!! I believe Freddie Mercury would approve...
This sounds Grrr-eat! Old rock with new blood can equal some awsome new tunes...I'll be watching.
he's perfect for Queen, but on the other hand it would be so limiting for Adam at this point. He has the world at his feet at the moment.
That would totally rock!!! Can't wait to see what happens. I love Adam!!
Put out an album at least, whatever else you do.
Freddie would be proud! This is a perfect place for Adam to launch his career.
Well, he does share many (MANY) qualities of the last Queen singer....
Best choice that Queen could make. Anxious for the outcome.
Fantastic news.I love Queen and Adam would be a great addition to the group.Congrats Adam,I think you are the best of the best that AI has ever chosen.
He would be perfect!
