An Inside Look At The Miss California USA Press Conference

Press conferences are usually pretty par for the course in the news world. When you walk onto the site you usually see the same thing, just in different locations. Today we were in the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills waiting for press conference being given by the Miss California USA Pageant.

There were cameramen setting up equipment and sound engineers adjusting audio as people from the Miss California Organization were running mic checks. The live trucks lined up along the street; the press conference was televised live all over the world. All of this was going on as journalists scrambled to get seats.

It’s the usual things that you would expect. But then there is always the unexpected, and today was no exception-we were told that they were delaying the start of the press conference because there was a shuttle launch in Florida. It was not lost on us journalists that Trump had just been trumped.

There was lot of buzz in the room, much more excitement for this presser than a lot of others that I have covered. Everyone has been watching the drama unfold and no matter how you feel about Carrie Prejean, the story has something for everyone. Whether you feel that Prejean has been unfairly treated for her beliefs and values or if you are fed up with celebrities taking nude pictures that wind up online, most people can’t turn away from the story.

The press conference today was aimed at clearing up rumors and inaccuracies that are out there about the current situation. Tomorrow is the real judgment day- Donald Trump will decide the fate of this young woman who has become the center of a national debate.

Will Trump say “You’re Fired” to Carrie Prejean? Tune in to Showbiz Tonight at 11pm Eastern and Pacific tomorrow to find out!

Brooke Shields Calls Kiefer a "Gentleman"

Brooke Shields has finally broken her silence about the Kiefer Sutherland headbutting incident. Almost one week after Sutherland allegedly headbutted a fashion designer for bumping into the actress, her lawyer released this statement to Showbiz Tonight:

"A number of statements have been attributed to Ms. Shields in the media that are neither true nor authorized. These statements were obviously made by those who were not in attendance at the party and constitute their version of events. While at the party she was bumped into by Jack McCollough and Kiefer Sutherland became concerned. Kiefer has always been a gentleman in her company. Both Jack and Kiefer are friends of Ms. Shields and she regrets this unfortunate situation."

With friends like those...

Kiefer Sutherland's attorney also got in on the action and told Showbiz Tonight:

"We are troubled by the untruthful and self-serving information circulating regarding Kiefer Sutherland and events of last Monday evening. We are confident, however, that the investigation being conducted by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the NYPD will confirm that Kiefer Sutherland was neither the instigator nor a wrongdoer in this incident. Out of respect for this law enforcement process, Kiefer Sutherland will not be making any comment."
