Top 4: Were you not entertained?

Did they rock around the clock tonight?

This was a really good theme for some and for others, not so much. And how about those duets?

At this point, the performers have to step up their game to survive. Who do you think is in danger of being eliminated?

We want to hear from you. Post your comments below or head over to iReport to submit videos of your reaction.

Very Sad Day! Alison should not have been voted out. This show is about establishing a new young idol that people can look up to and respect, She has talent, poise beyond her years and could become an IDOL for a lot of people. Yes Adam is the best all-around performer and most talented and probably should win but Alison deserved better than 4th place. Danny and Chris are tied for being loosers and I am surprised that the judges wasted their Save for Chris. He can not be the best that America has to offer, I would like to hear Simons thoughts on this. He was either miffed that Alison didnt give him a parting kiss, or he was just fed-up with the outcome. Yes if Danny or Chris win, I'm tuning out from this show forever, Oh just a foot note. I am a 68 year old man, and I have been around a while. I still like good performers.

I agree. I found myself really disappointed to see Alison leave. I'm afraid that if America didn't get rid of Danny when they had good reason to, he may never be the one sent home.

actually I have been watching overseas but I still do not understand why Allisan is voted out of the competition. For me either her or Lambert will be the next American Idol.Danny gave a horrible performance this week and he was surely the one to go.You can never predict the one going on American Idol.

Adam is the best! But me thinks it might be getting to his head a little bit!!! All the screeching is beginning to be a bit much..... He's talented no doubt, but maybe should temper it a bit! Paula still rocking strong as close to 50!! Commendable.

Daughtry should have picked a better song from his album...very boring! Like David Archulllata (spelled wrong)..He should have won..Not David Cook. So far I haven't heard anything great from David Cook.
Enjoyed Paula..she is good at all of it.
The group No Doubt sucks. That is definetly not singing. How that group ever makes is a surprise to me...Awful!
Naturally, we all know who goes next week.

Well here we go again. I will never understand why Americans vote the way they do. Its not a popularity contest. Its a talent contest. Chris should have gone last night. Then Danny next week. Then Allison and that leaves the obvious winner Adam. He has the over all package that people would actually go and pay to see. We do not need another Taylor Hicks winner. Give me a break.......

I find it incredible how the judges can't find anything wrong with Adam's performances. They have already chosen him and are trying very hard to convince the public he is the 'MAN'. Well if you listen closely to his 'HIGH' notes, he is screaming. not good. yes he will probably win but I just wish the judges would critique him a little. I think his ego is getting the better of him. and one more thing, WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE STOP THE FRONT 'PROPS' FROM CLAPPING FOR EVERY SONG. It does the singers no justification and sounds ridiculous. come on Simon shut them up....

Allison was the wrong choice to be dismissed last night. You haven't heard the last of her. Adam is shrinking in my opinion -Kris is real and the show is American IDOL. He's someone all can look up to = not someone with a gorey past like Adam. Danny is average at best

American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, reality BS TV. America wake up. I am amazed at the amount of publicity and attention this no talent crap actually gets in this country. No wonder why we rank 4th from the bottom world wide in education. Talented musicians and the like actually work for were they are, and here's a TV show that just hands them instant fame. Interestingly enough, the majority of which cannot even read and write music – or play an instrument. Wow. You can sing. Corporate America can make money off of you since our highly uneducated public can't tell the difference anymore from real talent. I am one of many that hold this opinion, and when we all look at it – this makes sense. Our society is now raised on television, video games, and moronic input such as reality shows. It's what's important. It's also laziness. We've become a country of obese, lazy, and displaced minds. A can of beer, a monster truck, and some whiny country music are all that matters. And on the other end of the spectrum, hip-hop, rap, and the like along with committing crime and acting like a punk are the norm. Hats on backwards and sideways – heck nobody seems to know front from back anymore. Pants falling off and low grades, it's the norm. Yeah, we're going downhill fast. If you don;t have a ridiculously large monster truck you have got to have a 4 cylinder car with an annoying muffler on the back. Don't forget the out-of-control subwoofer as well. And a DVD player inside so I can watch American Idol (PUKE) at the local Wal Mart parking lot. Meanwhile, other countries around the world are passing us by in EVOLUTION whilst we remain focused upon our bling. Scary isn't it?

Adam is worthy of the top three. Danny is worthy, even though he bombed with "Dream On" last night. Kris is not even worthy of the top 10. its a good thing for him that so many teeny-bop girls watch the show. Allison should have been in the final show with Adam. What an injustice. I think Danny can sing (NOT counting last night) but unfortunately his tone sounds like he's singing through his nose. I don't really care for his voice or sound...but I think he's a good singer. I just don't like hime though...at all.

Kris...Again he is someone who can sing, but he's really quite boring.

Allison...WOW, give that girl a couple years for personality factor or just put her on stage with someone who has an abundance of energy and stage presence. She seems a little uncomfortable by herself, but with Adam on stage with her she bloomed. This tells me she has massive potential. I'd like to hear more of her.

Adam...in a completely different league. The guy is one of the most talented people I've ever seen/heard. For those who can't stand him due to homophobic issues or the fact that he wears eyeliner...get over it. Those two things won't keep him from being a star...and unfortunately for you (and fortunate for the majority that do love him), he's going to be around for a long time!!!! If you don't like his sound (such as me not liking Danny) at least admit that the guy has massive talent... you may find that you do like him later on. Though it won't hurt him if you don't.

Go Allison.... GO ADAM... Go home Danny... Kris, you should follow.

Last week with the old standards and this week with the rock have been my favorite shows ever on AI.

Adam and Allison rocked, I didn't mind Danny so much even though it wasn't his best and Kris pretty much missed the mark this week altogether for me. But I like all of them, each has their own unique style and none have been the Karaoke singers of past seasons.

I voted for Danny because I would like to see him win, not to take anything away from any of the others as this much talent has never before been seen on AI.

I'm so glad we don't have to suffer another country music singer or a pop wannabe like in past years. The only AI winner I've cared for in the past was Taylor Hicks, but he's an entertainer, not really a recording artist.

Ok, at this point they are all extremely good. Nobody is HORRIBLE as some posters insist. However there are clearly 2 people who are heads and shoulders above the other two, at least in the genre of music highlighted last night. Those 2 are, of course, Adam & Allison. They could go on tour tomorrow and be completely sold out for the duration. On the other hand, both Danny & Kris will have great musical careers just not singing rock & roll or heavy metal type stuff. Good thing about Adam and Allison is that they can both sing pretty much any type of music. Oh, and the comments about Adam being Broadway? Could be but doesn't have to be – any Broadway he does will be by his choice, not because it is all he can do. Final two; Adam & Allison.

Tina – Totally disrespected Johnny Cash? Have you even got a clue? Seriously... go do a little work on actually studying up on The Man in Black and I think you'd be suprised (Hurt, Rusty Cage etc. plus a lot of early work points to you being very very wrong and I'm a HUGE Cash fan)

So doing a different take on Ring of Fire (Jeff Buckley) is disrespectful but absolutely destroying an awesome song like Dream On is okay? I'd rather have an outlandish interpretation that is sung in key and with proper intonation than just plain bad, bad singing. The worst part is that Steven Tyler actually had to hear that! I hope his people protected him.

Plus.. dragging Adam's family into it? Nice... can you go any lower? It sounds to me like someone is grasping at straws.

I am completely amazed at so many of the comments on here. Listen... you cannot comment if you have NO taste in music or are completely tone-deaf! Or are you just completely stupid? Kris should be going home tonight – he has a weak voice, no performance abilities, and just looks awkward on stage. Danny is the next to leave – how could he possibly think he could sing a Steven Tyler song? Temporary Insanity is what that was. Allison and Adam are the best left and should be in the final show, with Adam taking the prize. NO ONE in ANY season of Idol, has had the voice, presence, or artistry as Adam Lambert. His technical ability with his voice is in the category of Freddie Mercury, Steven Tyler, Axl Rose with a stage presence in the category of Elvis. His voice is so strong that no one can even compare. He will sell millions of records all over the world and will perform to sold out stadiums. I can't wait to the buy the tickets!

Surrenda you are so right. Allison can't pronounce certain letters of the alphabet, it was obvious in her duet with Adam. She can sing, but half the time you don't know what she's saying. Last night, if Adam hadn't been repeating the same lines as she was, you would be struggling to figure out what she's saying. Her voice is so muffled. Is she wearing braces that's affecting her singing or is it an speach impediment. Whatever it is, she needs to get it fixed.

The problem with "contest" shows like this is the voting set up. America is supposed to be voting for the winner but we have no way of knowing if votes are being manipulated. One vote per person is how it should work. But since it's apparently not possible to control how the public votes the show should have a panel of judges who do the voting and a set of criteria. Judges should take responsibility for their votes/choices. The contestants have a right to know what they're striving for or against. But what letting the fans vote achieves is the powers that be get a more accurate idea of what fans want, will pay MONEY to see. Being a true artist is one thing, but when it comes to business whoever they can squeeze the most $$ out of will the the true winner. And of the four remaining finalists who do you think that will be? Would you pay a hundred bucks for a ticket for a hour's worth of warm fuzzies from Gokey? Some of you, sure, but most of us would pay more for one kickass hour being entertained by Adam. He stands and delivers. I don't own the rights to his or any entertainer's private lives but if Adam can take the tap out of my toes and put me on my feet and make this 54 year old grandma of 3 feel like I did as a teenager, hey, then my $$ is on Adam!

Danny made the fatal error last night and it is representative of just who REALLY has what it takes….if you flub up and you are in the final four….then something is missing…..he flubbed up….over did it…tried too hard….even in the duet…he over did it….making a rather embarrassing attempt to out sing, out perform Chris…who came away looking better. That screech…that song Danny chose….not just that last screech…gawd the memory of it gives me chills….but the whole song…right from the first note…..ok…this is what I think. I think Danny, who I truly like…don't take this personally Danny ol' boy….what I think happened is that Danny sees Adam as his true competition…and rather than being true to himself and who he is……he tried to be Adam…rather than Danny…..and that ALWAYS is embarrassing. The best you can do, no matter what…..whether it is good enough or not….is be true to what got you where you are in the first place….trying to be someone else….would not have gotten you into the final four…..so….now Danny is the one I think needs to go… he is the one who slipped up…he made the fatal error…chose the wrong song….sang it like someone else rather than himself…..got frantic and panicky…lost faith in himself and had a fatal out of body experience….but he did not fit in the body he chose…best to keep your own body Danny and good night.

I am tired of the fact that all of Adam's songs are huge productions, and not just performances. How are the others supposed to compete with that? They are performing songs in what is supposed to be a singing competition. This is not the Emmy's. If Adam wants to perform in productions, let him check out another venue. This has become a very unfair competition. And the judges are influencing the masses with their praise of Adam, and their criticism of the others who are doing what they are supposed to do.

I guess by now it doesnt matter who wins first place, all 4 of them will release a CD and then it will be the "proof of fire" to see who can really connect with the audiences... I liked the 4 of them but i did really enjoyed Adam and Allison... i dont know why Simon is after her, I like Danny but in terms of voice (after all is a voice competition, yeah right) she is way better and she topped him last night. Gokey has been a favorite of the show since the auditions and I thought (after Adam not sure anymore) Danny was the chosen... oh well! kudos to the top 4!

Well that ridiculous theme was right up screeching, screaming drama queen Adam's alley. His performance was typical; an over-the-top screechfest. Is it just me, or are his pants getting tighter with each passing show? He's nauseating to watch and listen to.

Correction on my previous comments. I meant to say Kris was NOT worse than Danny on the duet. I believe they complimented each other.
It was NOT Rock & Roll night – but Heavy Metal & Hard Rock – big difference. Disappointed on this but enjoyed the performers.

I believe Simon once again is correct! Adam is great, then I believe comes Allison. Danny is okay but needs to stop trying to please everyone and Kris is sweet and has an okay voice, only because he doesn't spark excitement whether it be a ballard or rock. So my opinion is this: Adam and Allison and Danny will stay – and Kris will be let go.
I also have to say I disagree with Simon on the duet of Kris and Danny. I do believe they both harmonized great together and Kris was worse than Danny. I enjoyed their duet together, same for Adam and Allison. The pairs are good together.

I think Danny did a pretty good job with his song...a little screetchy at the end..but that sure drew some memories out of me from my earlier years hanging out with friends trying to 'sing' this song.....

I'm sorry ..but Chris , who is taleneted in his own right..did nothing to impress me last night.

    Slash is the expert.

There's noone on here (including myself) who knows ANYTHING about music, when compared to Slash. He has the talent, the gold records and the mansion to prove it.

He sounded amazed by Adam, "that dude's got pipes!"
And he said Adam's so good he makes it seem effortless.
And with the other three, he made comments like, "it could go either way [good or bad]."

End of discussion. There's no reason for any haters on here to throw out their opinions. A rock legend (who happens to KNOW the business) has spoken. When you get more credentials than Slash, come let us know. Then we'll listen to your opinion.

Based on their solo last night, this is my raking:
    1. Adam
    2. Danny
    3. Kris
    4. Allsion

But Kris should be sending home this week. He's good but he is not the best. The other 3 can always bring something better and different week after week. Especially, Adam Lambert. He is already the winner for me. Most people don't like his singing, because they only can listen to one type of music. That's just sad... I like all kind of music, and Adam deserves to win this year. VOTE FOR ADAM!

Rock is not Kris and Danny's style and I knew they would have a hard time. I"m a singer and rock is not my thing either. I wouldn't have done well myself. But, they gave it their all and fell short as anyone would against Adam & Allison..

Adam was the bomb and Allison was certainly in second place. She is incredible for 17! She has an amazing career ahead of her.

Final showdown should be Adam and Allison with Adam winning!

I am tired of reading comments that say the judges are promoting Adam, seriously I can recount all the 3 times that a negative comment has been said to Danny. Simon hated his white jacket one week, Simon said something neg about his movements (while adding how admirable it was for Danny to even be there) and then last night. Adam has been told he was awful by Simon on a couple of occasions, confusing by Kara (again more than once), Randy has liked him for the most part, but did criticize last week (theatrical). I honestly cannot remember what Paula might have said, I find that my mind wonders when she speaks.

Anyway, the judges have praised Danny from the beginning, and now Danny fans can't handle the judges being mean to him.

It's really hard when you start the night off w/ Adam- he obviously should have gone last so the bar was not set so high. Kris turns everything into a Jason Mraz or Jack Johnson sound- no originality. He needs to go- Danny was weak but at least deserves another go. Alison's good- but will probably go due to demographic voting (young girl jealousy, etc.)

Adam deserves it- but is he an 'idol', squeaky clean entertainment for the heartland. I could see more closeminded or homophobic Americans wanting a 'feel-good' story, that the bluesy widower gets to prize to help him move on in life. Why else would he not be the bottom 3 all year, despite him being a Taylor Hicks retread.....

Plus, what's with the 'mentors' this year? Tarantino, a film director no less, was better than the last two- Jamie Foxx (actor) and Slash (guitarist)- but are there no singers, producers or composers out there to coach the contestants (i know they need product for Fox to push and make some money on the backend, but come on!)

About Danny never being in the bottom three....come on now Ryan, there are four contestants left, it's Rock night...duh. I really think it will be Kris or Allison going tonight. I am fed up with Simon's sexist attitude towards Allison. The creep is losing all credibility in my eyes. Here is this young girl – 17 years old – holding her own with a bunch of grown men. The girl is awesome, a complete natural talent., and Simon has disrespected her each and every week. I love to see that she's finally fighting back. I usually don't like it when the contestants talk back to the judges, but for Allison it is time for her to speak up. Go Allison!

The thing is with allison that simon is talking about, is the personality thing. HE even admitted that she has shown growth vocally. But the personality thing is a point against her. During the duet she fed off of adam has energy and he hers. Great combination. For people who criticize Lambert for screaming, you guys dont have an argument anymore. What Gokey did at the end of the song really hurt my ears. He should not have picked that song. Yes, maybe this wasn't a good theme for him or kris, but remember Adam did county music and he killed it. He did Motown...he killed it. He takes the risk to go out of his element and he does well. Gokey did and well...not so much.

Honest to God, I would have been happy if Adam sang each song last night.

Ok – I do think it is VERY fortunate for Adam and Allison that the rock genre was chosen for this particular week. What if country music had been assigned to the week of the top 4? Yeah, we'd be having a whole different discussion right now.

Obviously Adam and Allison did great last night, but I try to take into account the whole picture and the progression through the season. We're going to be looking at Danny and Kris in trouble tonight though. Kris did great – he didn't try to become an "Adam" – he worked with what he has. (Also, Kris is always so humble and respectful of the judges opinions even though he may not agree). Danny, however great he is, didn't do that – he pushed it a little too hard and to me, came across like he was playing "dress up."

I hope Kris hangs in there! If it's not meant to be though, I look forward to hearing more of his music the way HE wants to make it!

Adam – more screeching, screaming and dramatics...being a long time Led Zepplin fan, I didn't care for it, and what's with those pants??
Allison – I was expecting big things from her as this is her niche, and she didn't bring it forth... I would have picked a very different song for her to sing.
Kris- I like what he did, great guitar, but it wasn't his best performance vocally.
Danny – He gave it his best shot and did okay...did anyone else think that his time got cut short...really hard to bring about those last notes knowing you have to cut the song.

I am appalled at the people who keep trying to make it out that Danny uses his status as a widower. To actually be squinting at the set, trying to work out whether his wedding band is on or off, is repellent. And for all the ones going on about "rock not being a fair genre," as I said elsewhere, rock covers a whoooooooooooooole lotta ground. It seems way too obvious that the judges are determined to have Danny Gokey in the finals no matter how screechingly horrendous his performance might be. It was painful to listen to his rendition of "Dream On," yet the judges fell all over themselves to say something positive. Danny picked the wrong song. He can't do Tyler. If he was gonna do that song, he should've done a totally different version of it that better suited his strengths. The signature of that song are the high notes and Danny can't do that so it just made him look bad.

Speaking of which, Kris seems like a nice kid, but he doesn't have the vocal power to sing over a heavy rock band. The music drowned him out and he was struggling to stay on top of it. This made him sound flat like he was just yelling through it. He sounds MUCH better when it's just him and a guitar singing soft-pop.

Allison's talented but not that personable. But that's ok – she's young and nervous and hasn't matured yet. Give her time.

Adam. wow. holy crap. Impeccable, as usual. Love him or hate him, you can't deny his talent. There aren't many people in the WORLD who can sing that song, and that way. If this IS a singing competition, it's clear who the winner is.

To me he is a hard rock singer and not an American Idol that I would want around. Could Adam look anymore stupid in those pants he wore? K.C. tried that hard rock look and she went back to her normal appearance. Allison is a true performer for someone who just turned 17 yrs. old. They should change the way of voting and you'd only get one vote. Give me a break when one girl said she voted 120 times for Adam. Instead of toll free, make it a charge call and see what happens. We all know that no mattter what, Adam is already the winner. I agree with Sarah that if Adam goes all the way that I am through with watching and voting for a winner anymore. I hate to admit it...i really do...cause I'm not a Adam fan at all...but he was the best last night. The other 3 could not touch him. I'm just very upset I got myself dooped again into believing that they would actually sing some rock from this gen or even some 80's rock. Instead it was classical. Argh...I don't like the old stuff. If they were going to do that, couldn't have called it classic rock week? I mean...Aside from Led Zepplin being the perfect choice for Adam...What the heck were the others thinking? Kris....The Beatles? Come on... Allison and her song, man, that sounded way to safe as it didn't even sound like a rock song to me. I guess it was good that she didn't do Heart though....I have heard them way too many times on American Idol. Danny...Yes, he did Aerosmith...but he didn't do it justice. I don't like screaming songs and all Steven Tyler does is scream his lyrics but atleast he has the voice for it. Danny just doesn't have the right voice for that song. I think Danny's was bad but not that bad. I would like to see Kris go and I think that's who might be next. I still think Allison and Danny will go on with Adam next week (Allison because of her fan base). I defiantly don't see Adam in the bottom this week...If he is, then America has some serious mental issues!

Also looking forward to seeing Chris Daughtry tonight! I just hope maybe he plays something new....Maybe he has a new song that he will play? I really like him and he is the only Idol that I have ever bought a album from. I'm just tired of listening to the same old songs for the last 3 years now. I dought he will sing something new though...It'll probably be Home again

I wasn't really entertained last night though. Once they said that they were doing duets along with the solos...I rolled my eyes and shook my head. Just something else to try and fill the 1 hour time slot. I'm pretty dissappointed in this week though but maybe that's just me because I got so geared up for rock week, only to find that it was classic rock!

Those that are not fans of Adam or rock music are entitled to their opinion, but in all honesty do you really think that Robert Plant would have given AI permission to use his song if he wasn't impressed by Adam Lambert?

Aerosmith only granted permission either last year or the year before, and Prince only did for Paris Bennett. Axl Rose has never granted permission to use GNR songs. The reason is because these artists don't want their songs destroyed by cheesy singers.

Zepplin and Plant picked up that Adam was the real deal and could do the song justice. We'll never hear another Led Zepplin song on the show unless another superstar like Adam comes along.

Wow, Danny was so bad last night – and has really been pretty bad throughout. He has a touching story, but it is a singing competition. He is the worst of the four, so I hope he goes home!

Nothing wrong with writing and reading about American Idol. Yes, there is a lot going on in the world, and I keep myself well informed on them. There is nothing wrong with relaxing a little bit by taking interest in a talent competition – doesn't take away from my reading on the major issues in Pakistan or valuing and supporting education or innovation.

"Did anyone else notice that Danny put his wedding band back on for his solo?"

He's been wearing it all season. You saw it last week, too. I'd imagine he was wearing it during the duet, you just didn't notice. Also, when you're in a performance, it can be easy to feel great about it and not think it's bad like others are saying. That's a really legit comment on his part, not arrogant.

That said, Adam and Allison did the best on the duet. I'd rank the night Allison, Danny, Kris, Adam for solos.

    Wow what a interesting night.
I'm curious to know who decided on the pairing for the duets?
It seemed like someone wanted to orchestrate the finale.
Danny was smart for getting chris to agree to do the song by styx. It really showed chris's vocal weakness. I really did not think the harmony was there as much as is being said. No blend. The song did allow danny to soar separately. Even though chris made a good come back solo the duet could have sealed his fate.
Danny. What were you thinking bad song choice you are not adam that last note made the dream a nightmare. You could have gone with Dust In The Wind Cause thats what you might be come tomorrow night.

Adam did a great job with Led Zeplin he kept it true and it worked.
I got to say though the band carried it over the top they kicked but!
Allison's performance was good. I thought it was a good song choice
but once again her lack of life experience hurt her performance. She should have slowed the temple and build up to the power part of the song. She seemed in a hurry. Face it the girl has not gone through enough pain to sing that song the way it needs to be sung. She probably would have faired better with a jefferson airplane grace slick song.
There duet left me a little dissapointed. Each seemed to be more interested in their individual performance rather then the union so the interpretation of the song was lacking. Thats a sexy rocking song so they should have played off one another more.

The judges are really terrible this year. It feels like they're not seeing the same thing the audience is or the have a predetermined out come.

I thought they were all either bad or mediocre, with one decent performance.

Whole Lotta Love was always a bad song, made "classic" only by its age. And Adam just screeched his way through the whole thing. It hurt my ears. That is EXACTLY the kind of song and performance that diminishes rock. All sound and fury, signifying nothing at all. Good theatrics as usual; terrible singing.

Cry Baby is a great Janis song, which Allison should have hit out of the park. She didn't. The singing was thoughtless, dry, emotionless, meaningless, boring and forgettable. Missed opportunity there, Allison. Guess she was nervous. Or whatever. She sucked.

Kris was just plain terrible. Worse than karaoke. Total amateur time. He will go be going home, for sure. Too bad, because I've always like him the best... a real singer, amongst a bunch of wannabes and showoffs. But this one was too bad for him to survive. Soyanara, Kris.

Danny was the least bad of the four. That scream at the end... I've heard a lot worse from "stars"... but when they do it, it's "awesome". I thought it was fine. This is rock and roll... anything goes, so long as it flows.

Oh wow, what a night. It is apparant by the comments those of you who don't like rock all feel like poor Danny & Kris got screwed. Well Adam and Allison did well in almost all of the other genres without complaint. I am also a huge country fan and with all due respect Adam's version of Ring of Fire was done before and I liked it. It is different and unique. Mad World was incredible! He did a great job on Born to Be Wild.....taking on a classic Led Zepplin song tonight is gutsy even for Adam. I think AI should have put him last as the others were done before they started after that performance. We all know now that Kris and Danny CANNOT compete with Adam in his genre, but Adam can compete very well in theres. Thats what makes a well rounded singer/entertainer.
Danny's scream was just as Simon said "something out of a horror movie"

I did my share of voting tonight and I hope to see either Kris or Danny go home tomorrow.

Danny is NOT the best. Every time I tune in to the show I am unimpressed by Danny. People say that he has 'vocal chops' but I have yet to hear them. I prefer the quality of Kris' voice over Danny's. Danny's voice is always raspy – the screeching note at the end of tonight's song really highlighted this fact. I will be very disappointed if Danny wins, but after he screeched through the last note of his song tonight and pompously thought it sounded good he just might get voted off (if we're lucky). Even when we heard him sing that last note on the playback video from his rehearsal, it did not sound good. And it STILL did not sound good for his final performance! Yes, Kris' performance was 'safe', but at least he didn't try to break glass with his voice and then call it 'music', lol. Adam is a true artist, but I can understand why not everyone can appreciate his genre and style of singing. Adam has *true* vocal chops; he makes my jaw drop in amazement nearly every week. I'm not sure who I want to win, probably either Adam or Kris.

Honestly I didn't really enjoy tonight as much as I thought I would.

Adam was good–even better than I'd expected, actually. He sounded quite good, IMO. I have always thought he was overrated...and to a point, I still feel that way. But, he always makes it through to another week, so I guess he doesn't disappoint often!
Although I am among those that still holds 'Ring of Fire' against him! LOL! But I guess he at least kind of made up for it FOR ME when he did Mad World. He'll definintely make it until the end, IMO.

Allison was good as well, as if there'd been any doubt she would be! She tends to sound about the same with everything she does to me. She does it well, don't get me wrong, but I'd love to see her slow it down or something. I guess I just don't hear too much range with her. But she's still got some pipes and I'll be with her until her time comes for her to head home!

Danny is still my favorite. And I personally thought he sounded decent tonight. But, some will always hold it against him to have taken on Steven Tyler, so I guess that's understandable, just like I do with Adam's take on Johnny Cash. But I still think he has a real chance to be standing next to Adam in the final.

Kris, well, he didn't do it for me at all. I like the guy, and I'm happy he's still around, but I wasn't all that impressed with his performance tonight, and IMO, he's going to be gone tomorrow night.

Myself, I didn't care too much for the duets. Each of them sounded OKAY, but neither pair was outstanding to me.

Really, to ME the only one I've heard with a lot of range, I hate to say, is Adam. I just wish the others would step it up a notch or two.
But IMO, it's been a good run for all of them, and I only wish them all the best. I don't think any of these in the final set are going to disappear into the woodwork anytime soon, no matter how it turns out in the end.

Adam deserves to win. He is the most talented, electrifying, original, versatile and vocally masterful artist that AI has ever seen. He can sing anything, from unplugged and tender, power ballads, pop, rock and even classical - check out his rendition of The Prayer on Youtube. He could sing the phone book and make it sound sexy. The man's a chameleon and every single one of his performances is memorable and talked about - who can say that about any of the others? He sings with abandon, so yes, the screeching bothers me too, but it's is a matter of taste, no-one can argue that the man can't sing. His stage presence and confident swagger may strike some as arrogant and cocky but that's the case with people who are intensely passionate about what they do. And this man is passionate about singing. I love the other contestants too but Adam takes the cake. I can't imagine what it will be like after AI ends and we don't have our weekly dose of Adam.

Geoff, with a comment as stupid as yours, why are you caught even reading these comments. Stay in your own weird world and let us enjoy the entertainment of these talented young people. They have more talent than the old stars that come on and can barely still carry a note. American Idol is far better than some of the dumb reality shows that there are too many of. Besides, with the economy the way it is, some of us need an escape such as "American Idol".

It's a fun show. It has its contrived elements but hey, that's TV! Tell me what show, including the news, isn't contrived for response?

Lots of GREAT talent on AI right now. When Adam wins it doesn't mean the rest lose. The exposure has been priceless. What they do with it now means everything. Adam personifies entertainment. They all have great voices but Adam is the only one so far who's had the guts to actually market himself as a winner. When he signs on the dotted line it will be because he met the criteria for entertainment. Charisma, swagger, confidence, walking the edge, and just plain gutsy enough to believe he could ante up. That's why he'll win.

He is very musically talented, does a great job with changing up the arrangements (even tonight with Come Together, towards the end) and making them more original sounding. Allison should come in second overall and Danny third. Adam has proven himself week after week. He is the most original performer they have had. For those who say he is theatrical and only belongs on Broadway...what about David Bowie, Elton John, Bette Midler? They are all a little over the top and look where they are. I have to agree with Randy on Adam, he belongs in a rock band and not on Broadway. Great performance. Allison shined as well, but I didn't care for the song selection, though she did a great job. Kris was out of his element and Danny was alright until the last note. Adam has been week in and week out the most solid performer, I think he would do better not winning AI and being stuck with their contract, though C Underwood has done a great job with her career. Adam should start a rock band and hire the top players, it would be easy for him. Allison has a great career ahead of her as well. Out of the 4 remaining, I enjoy Danny's vocal the best, just my preference of his soulful R&B style. Kris has surprised me over the past weeks and he has the teen vote, but not my cup of tea. Tough call for who is going home. I have to say Kris. My .02 cents.

We all know he's not a rocker, but he had a lot of songs to choose from and he choose one that was beyond his range. He should have just shut up and start to get ready for next week, because even though he was awful this week, he will be around for next week. I just can not understand all the hype about Adam. He MIGHT do ok on Broadway with a ton of training but 95% of Adam is smoke and mirrors. If you can't see his performance (yes even including the 20 pounds of pancake makeup to try to make him look 18 instead of almost 30 like he really is) there's not much to him. Just listening to him on the radio, etc. I don't think he will go far. Maybe a flash for a year or so then goodbye career. The judges have pushed him since it was the final 20 or so without giving anyone else even a fair chance. This year maybe their favorite is doing them all . . not just Paula.

It was unfair for Gokey and Allen to have to perform their duets before doing their solos. Not only did that allow Adam to open and close the show, which is an unfair advantage, but it meant that they were judged together before they were judged individually. Just not fair.

That out of the way, the genre obviously favored Adam and Allison, although she was just okay to me. I thought the pairings for the duets were very obvious and predictable. I think it would have been more interesting to pair Kris with Adam (b/c they are two most genuinely musical even though Adam has bigger vocals) or Danny with Adam so the two alleged front runners could be compared.

Kris did fine, it's not his genre. Danny was HORRIBLE and the judges' refusal to outright criticize him was really outrageous.

Danny: Nothing great....poor last note but still better than Kris.
Kris: Too weak of a voice for rock music.

The finals should be allison and adam. As someone else said, danny and kris are just good karaoke singers.....like someone you would see in a bar.

the final duet was nothing short of spectacular.

And I agree that simon just doestn give Allison the credit she is due.

I think it is the worst year for American Idol yet. It is sickening the way the judges try to sway the votes. I hope Adam gets eliminates so the others may have some kind of chance without American Idol trying to pick the winner through their comments. Adam is way over the top and not a good role model for America's youth.

Supposedly tonight, rock night, was Adamn's genre? Adam has sung much, much better in past weeks than he did tonight. I was not impressed at all. Pathetic how the judges fell all over themselves to praise him. The show is more worried about being 'politically correct'. Last week, everyone did a great job of covering the jazz 'rat-pack' theme, except Adam, who put his usual spin on his song choice, so that you would not have known the genre for that week with Adam, if they didn't tell you. The judges overlooked that aspect and gushed on Adam last week. The viewers were true to the overall context of what happened last week. Adam didn't measure up last week and it showed in the votes. This week, Adam just did not have the wow factor like some weeks. AI, judges and fans are just frantic they might lose Adam. Everyone knew hard rock would be out of Kris and Danny's genre completely, I give them credit for going after it. I appreciate what Randy said, and that is, that Kris stayed true to himself. He didn't try to pretend to be more of a rocker than he is. He rocked it out in his own way. Danny should have sung his last note more so than scream it, staying true to himself. But then Danny would have been hammered at for not screaming the note, (but it would have been more enjoyable.) At least Dan tried to fit the genre.
I don't like it when Adam screams either, so why should I like it if Danny screams. The duet between Adam and Allison was boring, unless you are a rocker. They were convincing, but the only good duet notes were their final two. Otherwise, Danny and Kris sounded great when they were singing together. (Get them a little more warmed up to the song and they would sell more records. Sound, not antics.)
Kris seemed more into the song, more animated, but the judges still gave props to Danny for doing better. Somehow the judges are trying to cut the hamstrings on these guys. The show has never done this rock genre before, so it does seem like they were playing this week in Adam's favor. We shall see.
It didn't work for Matt Girard with jazz week, his best genre. Adam had his usual hair, makeup, clothes props, but I still thought, comparing Adam to Adam, tonight, he failed. Frantic fans needed to save him.

Geoff, really? It's during difficult times like these that people seek cheap diversion. AI is providing the same outlet for today's jobless masses that movies provided during the last depression. It's harmless, and even people like me, cultured, civilized, and overeducated, can devote a few hours a week to the hyped pageantry of AI's deux machina. But back to Idol.

I was disappointed with this week's format. Not a Slash fan, but I don't mind a decent rock ballad even if it's commercial. I can't believe nobody sang a Santana tune since it's Cinco de Mayo. Hell, it would have been nice to have Carlos Santana mentor instead of Slash. I'm thinking his criticism might have been exceptionally useful. Just sayin.

I was impressed with Allison and Adam. Ached for Kris and cringed for Danny (a fave of mine since his audition).

I think his sob story has gotten him farther than he deserved already and I hope it's him that goes home tomorrow but I don't trust Idol fans enough to do the right thing. Adam rocks. By far the best, with Aliison second. Their duet was great and showcased their natural talent. Kris looked lost and sounded boring. Gokey was out of his element just like Kris but was doing a bit better until the scream – awful off key headache noise – that he shouldn't have sttempted. Maybe he thought he could sing like Adam but shouldnt have tried cause he can't. And Kris's and Gokey's duet just plain sucked, totally lame. Kris or Danny goes home. I am not even remotely a fan of the style of music performed tonight, but I have to agree with Simon - Adam's performance was head and shoulders above the rest.

Allison did well, but she was in her element and should have blown it out of the water. I think she has a great future, and seems like a genuinely nice person, but something is still missing.

Kris definitely got the short end of the stick tonight. This was not his style of music, yet he gave a genuine performance and a solid, if not spectacular, effort. I fear my hope of an Adam/Kris finale isn't going to materialize.

Danny was, in my opinion, HORRIBLE! Yes, he's a nice guy, but at this point in the competition should we still be having to deal with "pitchy?" And that sustained note was absolutely painful. However, there seems to be a large group of Gokey Fans who support him regardless of what he does, so I suspect he will be safe.

    To Adam:

Your comment about rock not being a "fair" genre for this late in the competition is just plain stupid. Just because Adam has ROCKED the other genres that the other singers SHOULD HAVE rocked but didn't (anyone remember the standing ovation that adam got during MOTOWN week) doesn't mean that they should keep catering to the less capable singers in the competition. Did you hear Adam complaining during country week, no . . .he mixed it up and made it his own and took the criticism for it; did you hear him complaining about motown, no, he rocked it . . .and on and on for every week. Let me guess . . . you were hoping the theme tonight would be "sing a second-rate power ballad week " for Danny. Maybe next week. LAME.

I read somewhere on this blog that someone voted 120 times. I think that is what makes the show's results off. Every phone should have one vote and one vote only. Yes, that might mean some will use cell phones and such, too, but, well, 120 times? That costs money. There are some who would not spend that much extra money to vote so many times nor should they. The show this year has been sub par. The pimping of Adam has been tasteless. I was hoping a contestant would mention that to the judges i.e. why do you bother even talking to any of us when you are only interested in Adam? I think Adam will hit B-way and star in a revival of Hair, that is what suits him. I think this is the last season I will watch the show.

I thought that Randy was leading the judges pack tonight and he had some good things to say to Kris. I'm rooting and VOTING for you KRIS you are the best!

It was not Danny's best night but I still love to hear him sing. I am sick of the AI judges picking the top winner each season and slamming the ones they don't like..ie Simon Danny, Chris or Allison your on your way so this is just a stepping stone to a wonderful future in music..if that is what you want and embrace it with joy...God bless

I think it was a pretty good show. The highlights were Adam's song and the two duets. Allison, Danny and Chris all had problems with their solo's. They either undersong or oversong and any of those three could be out tomorrow. Adam was by far the star of the night. He looked it, acted like one and song like he wanted to win.

Alison was the entire show tonight, I felt her personality out-shone all three of the guys, and her vocal performances rocked. Kris came in the underdog and fell into the mold, he's just average in every way. i agree with another poster than Danny's charisma is lacking. He's in it now just to win it rather than for the whole experience, the love of the music and enjoyment of performance. It's like he's auditioning every time. Adam rocks but I want something crazy weird like his Ring of Fire at least one more time.

Adam is horrible! he could get up there and forget every and they would still say he was the best performer in AI history. he needed to go last week!!!! good thing it was leaked months ago that they already picked him to win or I'd be confused.

Did anyone else notice that Danny put his wedding band back on for his solo? He definitely didn't have it on during the Slash/Roxy scene, and I don't think he did during his duet. But it was very noticeable on his finger because he was clutching the mike...Shameless. He was just horrible tonight. And seemed pretty arrogant at the end, saying he'd have to listen to it back because it sounded better to him than the judges were saying. Adam fans...VOTE! I voted 120 times – more than the whole season – and I'm not sure if it was enough. I also voted a few times for Allison. They were great together!

I thought Adam "rocked the house". I really like both Danny and Kris – but both performances lacked luster in my opinion. For her age, I think Allison's doing an awesome job. Kris goes home t his week.

there is nothing entertaining, redeemable or newsworthy about American Idol. It is not entertaining. It is not a good show. Everyone who likes American Idol should be ashamed of themselves.

I don't think the genre was a bad idea this late in the competition. I think it separates "the men from the boys" so to speak. Adam and Allison have done country and every other genre or theme that you would not think they were suited for. Finally they got the genre that is their strongest. Most of the genres or themes so far have been of the sort that Danny and Kris could do very easily. This was about vocal strength and it was pretty clear who passed and who failed.

i was so excited for rock `n roll night but that was not rock by any means. adam and allison`s duet was heavy metal "sort of" not rock. Kris and Danny were terrible and they should go already. Danny`s screaming gave me a bad headache. the poster was correct about Simon, he is the only one with common sense but come on Adam is no God according to that other girl "judge". she is useless. Paula is also useless.

Prediction: Danny will win it all. I have said from week one..I could actually listen to a whole CD of his songs. Adam screams too much and really is one dementional.

As much as I like Adam, and I really do like Adam, I think the judges are shamelessly promoting him. All of the contestants are really good. I think this is the most talented group as a whole compared to all other seasons of AI.

I think tonight's genre was just a stupid thing to do this late in the competition. This is a genre that only certain artists can really succeed at. Of course Adam did a great job because he finally got to sing what his voice is made for. Allison is also great in this genre because her voice is rock personified. Kris and Danny are getting a bad break because of the genre, not because they are not talented artists. I think both Kris and Danny are talented enough to go to the finals and give Adam a run for his money but got screwed by this genre tonight. I'm sticking to my guns from the first time I saw him and am going with Danny to win it.

Agree Adam made me stand up and shout he was so good. Allison and Adams duet showed they are preformers as well as singer. I really like Kris. Gokey . I just dont get it he can sing but zero charisma.......

I think that Allison will be out. She just doesn't have what it takes. This should have been her night to shine but she came in 4th. Disco night I could understand but rock night – she's out.

I agree with "B", it's either Danny or Kris that exit. No doubt, Allison and Adam will be in the top two. Either way, both are destined to go far in their careers.

Adam and Allison took the show !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Final decision will be Adam American Idol and Allison runner-up..........I think Kris is so cute, but his voice is just not strong enough to be the third place ,which will go to Danny { who has little style}.or looks........

    Adam is in another league.

Allison has a great future as well.

Gokey and Chris are nothing you won't find in any bar on any night – glad to see the judges finally being honest about this.

Gokey thought he was gonna do Steven Tyler?

This was a very entertaining theme as fas as Adam and Allison were concerned.
Why does SIMON bring down Allison every time?
She sang much better than Chris and Mr. Gokey, but he still comments that "Adam, you have given this girl a chance to stay in the competition".
Allison is far better singer than Mr. Gokey and Chris. She should be in the finals.
Mr. Simon you have may have Common sense, but you are wrong about Allison.
Actually we very much got a glimpse of the final today. It will be 'Adam and Allison'. Way to go Allison, but Adam you are the winner, no doubt about that.
