Top 9: Well, that's done

The show was only an hour and a half tonight, but I can't say I missed the extra half an hour.

Tonight wasn't great for me.

Perhaps it was the theme, which seemed so random and all over the place.

Or maybe it was some of the performances, which seemed the same.

Don't forget to join us Wednesday night for the results show to find out who gets eliminated.

Top 9: Kris Allen ends it on a high note

I hope some of the other piano men were taking notes.

Kris Allen

Kris took to the keys with his rendition of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine," and out of all of the songs tonight, his is the one that would have found a home on my iPod.

He said he was attempting to have a moment, and he did it. Loved the voice and the entire performance.

Kris has stepped up his game!

Top 9: Adam Lambert gets funky

The pompadour is back!

Adam Lambert

"Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry?

Really, Adam?

Just when I was starting to heal from Adam's "Ring of Fire," he goes and weirds me out again.

Paula compared him to Mick Jagger and Steven Tyler.

Really, Paula?

At this point, it doesn't really matter what I say because those who love Adam won't love him any less after tonight. I'll just say that he is certainly an acquired taste.

Top 9: Lil Rounds surrenders

Lil looked so pretty tonight.

Lil Rounds

But if you are going to sing a Celine Dion song, you have to really bring it.  Lil chose Dion's "I Surrender," and she, too, was criticized for her song choice.

Maybe I just expected too much from her and her big voice. I wanted her to have "a moment," and like last week, she didn't.

Ryan went to one of her daughters in the audience and even the kid was at a loss for words. Very cute moment when her other daughter hugged Randy. So sweet.

Top 9: Someone found Matt Giraud

Weren't you secretly hoping Matt sang some Justin Timberlake?

Matt Giraud

Maybe he should have because he went with "You Found Me" by The Fray, and the judges didn't dig it.

Simon sounded like his dad when he told Matt "you can frown all you want" as he criticized him. Randy read my mind when he suggested that Matt should have gone with a JT song.

Matt shocked us when he was in the bottom three last week, but might he be heading back there again?

Top 9: Scott MacIntyre, just the way he is

Scott sings Billy Joel? Shocking!!!!

Scott MacIntyre

Ryan kicked us off from the mosh pit and then took us to the piano where Scott sang Joel's "Just the Way You Are."

I don't imagine he's too familiar with the lyrics because I think he may have missed a few words.

I really wanted  to enjoy it because it was Scott with a new haircut and unplugged. But it was still just Scott and his piano. It was cool, but I was kind of bored.

The judges thought it was one of the best so far tonight. Your thoughts?
