Top 10: Anoop Desai gets SmokeyAnoop, have you been holding out on us? ![]() Noop Dogg tackled "Ooh Baby Baby" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles - and it didn't suck. He had some moments when I thought "Wow, he's a much better singer than I thought." It was a bit slow and I'm not sure if that was supposed to translate as sexy or not. It just made me sleepy. What did you think? Is Anoop still in the game? –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com Writer Top 10: Megan Joy Corkrey takes on Stevie Wonder ... sort ofSmokey Robinson said Megan Joy Corkrey made Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life" her own. ![]() I think that's because no one else would want that version. What was she thinking? My pup, who had been falling asleep, popped up and began to growl. I couldn't have said it any better. That was a whole hot mess! There were more bad notes in there than I could count. And she came off a tad bit cocky by saying "My fans are still there." They may still be around, but will Megan be after tomorrow night? Note to contestants: When Randy starts off complimenting your outfit, it's never good. Paula and Simon think Megan looks great and that might count for some votes. Perhaps. –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com Writer Top 10: Scott McIntyre is in no hurryOh, Scott. ![]() I really thought you were going to surprise us and abandon that piano. Way to put it out there that you are single by saying "You Can't Hurry Love" by the Supremes has meaning to you. Is it me, or did it seem like he almost forgot the words around about the second verse or so? I didn't love the performance and at one point I really wanted to hear more from the three backup singers. They seemed way more interesting than Scott. So much seemed wrong, starting with his pink pants. Kara said he took liberties with the melody. I think he took it ... I don't know where. Smokey and Berry seemed to be giving polite applause. The best part of the whole thing had nothing to do with the performance. It was when Paula tossed Simon a coloring book and crayons - to denote his immaturity, I guess. But back to Scott. Did you enjoy it? –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com Writer Top 10: Kris Allen is so sweetI guess Marvin Gaye is the man tonight. ![]() Kris Allen chose "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and his trusty guitar was back on the scene. Once I stopped trying to figure out what those numbers running across his shirt at the shoulder were, I could focus on the song. It was a tad less soulful than I expected from him, but there's Paula up and dancing. Wait, she does that all the time ... Kara thought he displayed great artistry, but I agree with Simon that he lacks some swagger. I felt like I was watching a performer on a street corner and I wanted to toss him some change. Not bad, but not exactly what I was expecting. –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com Writer Top 10: Matt Giraud gets it onAll right Matt, I see you doing your thing! ![]() I was feeling the heat through the screen and I liked that he jumped up from behind the keys. Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" was a great start to the show and I liked how he worked the crowd a little bit. I'm starting to see this dude in a new light. Simon thinks he's a front runner. Do you agree? –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com Writer Top 10: Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson are the mastersHow does Smokey Robinson do it? ![]() Seriously, the man seems to never age! It’s great to see him and Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records, acting as mentors to a new generation of singers, since as Berry pointed out his label was the sound of young America. It is a testament to their musical genius that their songs are still just as great today as they were decades ago. Do you agree with Smokey's assessment that this season is a special one? –Lisa Respers France, CNN.com Writer |
