Jessica Chastain disappointed about Bigelow Oscar snub

The absence of Kathryn Bigelow - and a few other names - from the Academy's list of best director nominees has been a contested oversight, not just for observers but for the star of Bigelow's Oscar-nominated film.

When CNN spoke with Jessica Chastain, who did earn an Oscar nod for best actress for her work in "Zero Dark Thirty," she admitted that she was let down that her director wasn't recognized as well.

Overheard: McConaughey's weight loss secret

With New Year's resolutions still hanging over us, Matthew McConaughey had a bit of timely advice when we caught up with him at the Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles Thursday night.

We started chatting about his weight loss for the upcoming "Dallas Buyers Club," and McConaughey explained that dropping nearly 40 pounds wasn't that tough.

"It wasn't as difficult - once I made up my mind to do it - as people said or thought it would be," McConaughey said. "I got past being hungry. I think the secret [to losing weight] is don't take meetings as Pizza Hut. Don't put yourself under that temptation."

That said, once he wrapped up his diet, he knew precisely the temptation to indulge in: a perfectly prepared cheeseburger.

Claire Danes, Hugh Dancy welcome baby boy

Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy are now the parents of a baby boy, CNN's confirmed.

According to People magazine, the "Homeland" actress and her husband of three years welcomed their son on December 17. They named their firstborn Cyrus Michael Christopher Dancy.

Peter Jackson's detailed approach to 'The Hobbit'

Turning a book into a movie often means either stretching the story across numerous films, or leaving chunks of it on the editing room floor.

"The Hobbit" director Peter Jackson seems to have gone with the first option, as he tells CNN that he wanted to bring J.R.R. Tolkien's prequel story to life with a hope to accommodate all of the memorable scenes.

(This might be part of the reason why we're getting a trilogy, with the first installment, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," arriving in theaters on Friday.)

The pair tied the knot October 30 in California, Wood's rep confirms. The 25-year-old actress wore a custom gown from Carolina Herrera for the intimate ceremony, which was attended by close family and friends.
