Being both Ethan Hunt and "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." was a mission impossible for Tom Cruise. The actor's dropped out of the latter feature, which also stars Armie Hammer, in order to focus on the fifth movie in the "M:I" franchise. [Deadline]

If you go see Robert Rodriguez's "Machete Kills" and spot the name Carlos Estevez, know that he isn't a new actor. No, that's Charlie Sheen's real name - which he's rumored to be using for the first time professionally in the September release. [TMZ]

The stand-off between former "Jersey Shore" star Snooki and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was made only slightly less tense with their super awkward meeting at the Jersey shore today. [GossipCop]

We all have the one that got away, and for Baz Luhrmann it's "Harry Potter." "I'm an obvious idiot," the director's said of passing over the opportunity to helm the fantasy pic. [CinemaBlend]

Lena Dunham was initially squicked out by the reveal of a "Girls" porn parody, and the award-winning creator has since come up with three reasons why: "1. Because Girls is, at its core, a feminist action while Hustler is a company that markets and monetizes a male's idea of female sexuality. 2. Because a big reason I engage in (simulated) onscreen sex is to counteract a skewed idea of that act created by the proliferation of porn. 3. Because it grosses me out." [Lena Dunham's Twitter]

Selena Gomez went out to dinner Thursday night with Jaden Smith, the friend of her ex (and maybe still?)-boyfriend Justin Bieber. We have nothing to note here except to point out Jaden's early '90s-esque 'do. He could've been an extra on his mom Jada Pinkett's show "A Different World." [Us Weekly]

Singer Carrie Underwood has become more akin to an "American Hero" to Oklahomans recovering from this week's deadly tornado.

The 30-year-old OK native (and season 4 "American Idol" champ) has donated $1 million to the Red Cross for disaster relief, which will aid those rebuilding after Monday's monstrous twister decimated the town of Moore, Oklahoma. The sum was generated by proceeds from her "Blown Away" tour.

“I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness,” Underwood said in a statement. “With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornadoes.”

Underwood had a similar response to the wreckage Hurricane Sandy left behind in New Jersey last year. After performing in Atlantic City in November 2012, Underwood donated all of the proceeds from that night's show to the recovery effort.

Her latest hefty gift to the Red Cross will be stretched to cover other crises around the country.

Typically, the more installments a movie franchise has, the worse the flicks become.

But with the "Fast & Furious" series, it seems they've put out so many movies the franchise has come full circle to being great again. If you've dismissed "Fast & Furious 6" as nothing but a cheap attempt to milk the last out of a brand, you might want to think again.

The biggest draw is the momentum the sixth movie has sustained from "Fast Five," which most agree reinvigorated an increasingly lifeless series. You shouldn't expect much (or anything, really) in the way of high art from "Fast & Furious 6," but that's also part of the appeal. It's saving grace from being a throwaway, mindless action movie is its full embrace of its basic concept. As CNN's Tom Charity put it, the film is "ludicrous, but undeniably fun and surprisingly affectionate."

Los Angeles Times: "True, the movie doesn't know when or how to put the brakes on. It does, however, understand precisely what it is. No pretensions to greatness, it demonstrates total dedication to "badassness," which I believe is the technical term.

Washington Post: 'Fast & Furious 6,' like its predecessors, doesn’t need CGI, 3-D glasses or even praise from film critics. It just needs to please its audience with amped-up, old-school thrills that make its target demo whoop and holler with every zoom, smash and ka-BOOM. Consider this review a declaration that it does just that.

Rolling Stone: "The new energy from 2011’s 'Fast Five' still holds. ... It’s kickass trash that never pretends to be more. Bonus points for that.

If you don't keep that perspective in mind, you might wind up walking away from the action flick with the words of USA Today's Claudia Puig reverberating in your head:

"This ultra-formulaic entry definitely has a few exciting stunts — a car hurtling out of a flaming airplane, two bodies flying through the air and landing safely in a clutch (of the hug variety, not a car component). But the story is standard-issue. ...[H]ightail it home and fire up 2011's fresher 'Fast Five.'"

On "Good Morning America" Friday, Mariah Carey certainly woke viewers up with a near-wardrobe malfunction.

The singer was chatting with "GMA's" Lara Spencer during her performance in Central Park as part of the show's summer concert series when her sparkly floor-length pink Versace gown gave up.

"Oh, s*** now the back of my dress just popped," the frustrated singer said. When she spun around, viewers could see that the top half of the back of the gown had split apart.

Spencer held on to one of Carey's straps while an assistant ran up to attend to the other side. Carey, trying to keep the mood light, joked that she could also just hold up her cleavage throughout the set.

After changing into a different pink dress, Carey was apparently still feeling flustered as she let another curse word slip while introducing her "Beautiful" collaborator, Miguel. This time, the censors didn't catch her "oh, s***."

We're sure Miguel understood the precarious nature of a live performance, though - he's still grappling with the infamy that came after he struck a woman in the face with his leg at last Sunday's Billboard Music Awards.

When it was all said and done, Carey could find support from her fans. "Thank you for standing in the rain while I was dealing with the ensem drama etc.," she told her fans on Twitter. "I love you so much!"

It sounds like "American Idol" is far more interested in sticking with old friends than making new ones.

After rumors that the show wants Jennifer Lopez to return to the judges' table - which is now missing Randy Jackson and potentially might lose more - come new reports that the production team also has its eye on Jennifer Hudson.

The former "Idol" contestant didn't win during her season but she has gone on to become a pretty big deal, so she's certainly qualified - and The Wrap reports that she's in negotiations to join the series.

In addition to Hudson, reports suggest that the Fox show is hoping to bring back more than one former "Idol" star, with names like Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken being mentioned.

Fox isn't giving specifics about what's to come, and thus it also isn't clear what's going to happen to Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj or Keith Urban, who just joined the show last year. After all, the network's entertainment chairman, Kevin Reilly, told press on a recent conference call that "everything's on the table."

Jackson, the last original "Idol" judge attached to the program, announced his departure in early May.

After getting caught with his eyes closed during a press interview earlier this week, we thought it looked like Morgan Freeman was sleeping.

But the actor's since revealed that he was doing something way more high-tech than simply squeezing in a little shut-eye.

The 75-year-old was speaking with Seattle's Q13 Fox News on Wednesday morning about his new movie, "Now You See Me." Accompanied by one of his co-stars, Michael Caine, Freeman seemed to nod off during the chat, with some of his "blinks" appearing suspiciously long.

And when the cameras caught Freeman with his head to his chest after a segment of "Now You See Me" aired, his fatigue was pretty evident. Yet in a statement, Freeman says that we've got it all wrong.

“Regarding my recent interview, I wasn't actually sleeping. I'm a beta tester for Google Eyelids and I was merely taking the opportunity to update my Facebook page," he said, on Facebook, naturally.

Caine carried on throughout Freeman's apparent mini-nap on Wednesday, and the actor didn't stay down for long. Within seconds he lifted his head back up, and soon matter-of-factly fielded another question without a hint of drowsiness.

"Now You See Me," about a group of magicians who use their tricks to stage bank heists and then distribute the money to their audiences, opens May 31.

Don't miss CNN's Summer Movie special this Saturday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Even regular movie stars like Diane Keaton still like to kick back in a movie theater when the weather gets warmer - and with plenty of popcorn, while she's at it.

The actress told CNN that she's a stickler for heading to the cinema, rather than sitting and watching the newest release at home. "You take yourself out of the comfort zone where you can leave and come back, and you have to focus," the "Big Wedding" star said. (If you live in the L.A. area and want to have a Keaton sighting, among the many theaters she name-checked is the AMC Century City theater, "because I like the view. It's just fun to go to the movies."

Keaton's A-list contemporaries agree. With the industry's lucrative movie season getting underway this weekend, we asked several stars which summer flicks they're planning to see:

Katherine Heigl : "Man of Steel" (June 14); "Monsters University" (June 21)

"There's a lot actually, now I'm blanking, but I definitely want to see Superman! ... and 'Monsters University' for sure."

Jack Black: "This Is The End" (June 12)
"I want to see Seth [Rogen's] end of the world movie, that looks like the funniest movie in years, looking forward to that. 'Iron Man 3,' gotta check it out. I'm a sucker for the 'Iron Man.' ... 'World War Z' looks kind of good, I'm going to look at a couple more trailers before I make the decision."

Seth Rogen: "Kick-Ass 2" (August 16); "Elysium" (August 9)

"Kick Ass2 I'm pretty excited to see, Elysium, I'm excited to see. Iron Man I'm into. I was a comic book nerd growing up, and I like Robert Downey Jr. And Shane Black who wrote and directed it is one of my favorite writers of all time."

Krysten Ritter: "Star Trek Into Darkness" (Out now)
"I'm excited to see Star Trek because my friend Alice Eve is in it!"

Joss Whedon: "Much Ado About Nothing" (June 7)
"What? I'm supposed to want to see somebody else's movie? ... [But in seriousness], all of them. Mostly 'Star Trek Into Darkness,' I loved the first 'Star Trek' so much."

Don Cheadle: Undecided
"Are there any other movies coming out this summer? I haven't heard of any. If I hear of one I'll come back and tell you."

Winona Ryder: "Star Trek Into Darkness (Out now)
"I'm definitely gonna go see it. I'm a big 'Star Trek' fan."

Ray Liotta: "Star Trek Into Darkness" (Out now)
"'Star Trek,' yeah, I like JJ Abrams. I really liked what he did with the first one too."

Michael Shannon: "The Great Gatsby" (Out now)
"'The Great Gatsby' I'm really excited to see. I really loved that book, and I love Leo [DiCaprio], and Toby [Maguire], and [director] Baz [Luhrmann] - all of them."

Elizabeth Banks: "The Great Gatsby" (Out now)

"I'm pretty much all about 'The Great Gatsby' right now. I'm a huge Baz Lurhmann fan. 'Romeo and Juliet' is actually one of the movies that made me want to be an actor. The whole cast I think is amazing and I'm really excited.

Chris Pine: "Man of Steel" (June 14)
"I saw the Superman trailer, which I think looks fantastic, so I'm looking forward to seeing that

Aubrey Plaza: "The Heat" (June 28)
"I really want to see 'The Heat.' I love the trailer and I love Melissa McCarthy and I love Sandra Bullock, so that's one of the big movies that I want to see. ... 'Monsters University,' I'm in that, so I can't wait to see that too."

[Editor's Note: This post contains mild spoilers below.]

If you're going to see "The Hangover III," chances are you don't particularly care if critics think it's a waste of time. After all, you've hung in there for the first two movies, so you might as well cap it off with the third, right?

But according to many critics, that would be precisely the wrong thing to do.

After changing nothing but the location for "The Hangover II," director Todd Phillips does do something different with "Part III." Instead of a "forgotten night" and MIA friend plot, this installment is centered around the death of Alan's (Zach Galifianakis) father and the character going off his meds.

This triggers an intervention, and the Wolf Pack tries to cart Alan off to a treatment facility. Of course, nothing goes as planned, as they're soon being tracked by a mobster (played by John Goodman) who says Ken Jeong's Mr. Chow stole his gold. Melissa McCarthy, too, makes a cameo in the third film, which theoretically means all of this should add up to something funny. But reviews have said that it decidedly does not.

New York Times: "'The Hangover Part III' is a dull, lazy walkthrough that ... has a claim to be the year's worst star-driven movie."

Variety: Nearly bereft of laughs ... At times it's debatable whether 'The Hangover III' should even be considered a comedy at all. ... By playing things completely chronologically - and worse, soberly - this film's shenanigans feel witlessly arbitrary."

Entertainment Weekly: "For a franchise known for pushing boundaries, 'The Hangover III' isn't nearly outrageous enough."

It wasn't just Phillips' different-yet-still-formulaic approach to the story that set critics' teeth on edge. Within the first few minutes there's also a very graphic giraffe decapitation. Alan's seen driving down the freeway with the giraffe in a trailer, and off goes its head when it encounters an overpass.

Time: "The giraffe is obviously almost entirely computer-generated but still looks smart, soulful, friendly. ... The preview audience I was with seemed stunned into silence. Not by what had happened—the outcome is telegraphed from the beginning of the scene—but by a sort of larger why? Hardly anyone laughed."

The Hollywood Reporter: "This is an early sign of the movie’s desperation. PETA and other animal lovers should be warned, as there are a few other dead animals on the horizon. 'Hangover III' is so determined to defy political correctness that it breaks one of the last cinematic taboos. Any schlockmeister can slaughter hundreds of people on camera, but how many filmmakers dare to kill dogs, other mammals, and even smother a rooster?"

But if you're already planning to see it, criticisms be damned, there are a few reviewers who looked on the bright side:

New York Daily News: "The guys from the 'Hangover' films have hilariously, crazily evolved. ... The pleasant surprise of 'The Hangover Part III' is a belated bout of adulthood has only made the extended-adolescent characters funnier. The result is a more traditional but more hysterical crowd-pleaser."

Detroit News: "'The Hangover Part III' is much better than the second 'Hangover.' ... a more proper follow-up to the original than “Part II,” and Phillips gives his characters a proper send off."

If you've seen the movie, what's your verdict?

Paris Hilton is the newest member of one of hip-hop's hottest labels.

The heiress and reality star has signed with Cash Money Records, which is home to hitmakers Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Drake. Cash Money's co-founder Bryan "Birdman" Williams tweeted a welcome to Hilton on Wednesday, causing Hilton's name to cruise at the top of the social media's trending topics for hours. (Said Hilton in response, "Thanks BO$$! Happy to be apart of the family."

Hilton, who's been hanging out in Cannes, France, which is currently boasting its film festival, said as much earlier this week to Showbiz411. She brought up her second album, which she's previously said would involve Afrojack as an executive producer, and revealed that the record will be released by Cash Money and will feature hip-hop acts.

Many were (and continue to be) skeptical of Hilton's confirmed new deal with the label, but Williams told the Los Angeles Times that the decision to sign the 32-year-old was pretty simple.

"She's always supported us, and we've supported her," he said. "She played us music, and I was taken aback. I was impressed by her music, and I didn't know she could sing so well."

Hilton's been working on her follow-up to 2006's "Paris" for more than a year, and hopes to release it this summer.

The collaboration overall sounds like a win-win: Hilton gets to release her EDM-leaning new record, and Cash Money benefits from being attached to more star power.

"[Her deal] being so talked about shows the strength of her popularity," Birdman told the LA Times. "I'm very excited. I'm very appreciative that she's part of the team. She's very talented, and a beautiful young woman."
