Seth MacFarlane hosts 'SNL' - what's the verdict?Expectations were high for the 38th season premiere of "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, but host Seth MacFarlane did his best to meet them. With "SNL's" retooling, there was a lot riding on the season opener, which had Frank Ocean as the musical guest. In addition to three new cast members, this is a political season, and Jay Pharoah now does the impression of President Obama instead of Fred Armisen. We didn't have to wait long to see how well Pharoah would do, as Saturday's premiere began with Armisen passing the torch. Seth Meyers on Jay Pharoah's new 'SNL' roleWith Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Abby Elliott gone and three newbies coming in, "Saturday Night Live" is also doing some recasting. An NBC rep tells CNN that the role of President Obama will now be played by Jay Pharoah - whom we already adore for his dead-on impression of Jay-Z - rather than Fred Armisen. Seth MacFarlane, Frank Ocean headed for 'SNL'"Saturday Night Live" is starting off strong with its 38th (38th!) season this fall. NBC announced Wednesday that the late night sketch comedy show will be hosted by Seth MacFarlane, and will have a debut performance from critic-and-fan darling Frank Ocean, on its season premiere September 15. Jason Sudeikis unsure if he'll return to 'SNL'"Saturday Night Live" has already lost Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg, and it seems it's still in danger of losing Jason Sudeikis. The actor/comedian told The Los Angeles Times that he's not sure if he'll be on board when the NBC sketch comedy show returns in the fall. Who's in the running to join 'Live! With Kelly'?Kelly Ripa has been holding down the "Live!" set quite well since her former co-host, the venerated Regis Philbin, decided to wrap up his long run in November. The show has used a succession of guest co-hosts since then, but the list of names mentioned as possibilities for a more permanent replacement has apparently shrunk to three. Kristen Wiig's emotional 'SNL' goodbyeAlthough NBC never officially announced as much, it looks like Kristen Wiig has cracked her last joke on “Saturday Night Live.” The longtime cast member got a royal but emotional send-off over the weekend from the night's host, Mick Jagger, who played her teacher in a mock graduation skit. The comedian/actress was noticeably choked up as Jagger announced, "Many of you are moving onto college, but I'd like to take a moment to say goodbye to one particular student who is leaving this summer . . .to become a nun," he joked. |
