The 'New Girl' fully intends to brake for birdsRaise your hand if you sensed something was going to go awry between Nick, Jess and Julia, because that's just what happened on Tuesday's episode. Since Nick’s…well, they’re not using labels, so since his “Julia” is a lawyer, Jess gets her help fighting a traffic ticket. Jess is her usual bubbly self, (offering Julia a blanket to get “toasty," and some pastries she baked), but after she explains that she ran the red light because she was trying to avoid hitting a bird, Julia makes a few condescending comments. (How much do you love Lizzy Caplan in this role?)

Ryan Seacrest 'can't imagine life' without 'Idol'The "Today" show may be considering Ryan Seacrest as a potential successor to Matt Lauer should the position become available, but the Hollywood heavyweight is still devoted to "American Idol." He said as much at during the Television Critics Association's winter tour, explaining to press, “I can tell you I can’t imagine life without 'American Idol.' I have a deal with NBC Universal already…but I can’t comment on that.” Talk then turned to "Idol's" competition, “The X-Factor” and “The Voice,” and that's when the gloves came off!

Go ahead and blame Ke$ha: Young women like to 'vocal fry'Ke$ha does it. So does Britney Spears, Zooey Deschanel and Kim Kardashian. And now a report shows two-thirds of women in a recent study do it, too: They're all using vocal fry when they talk. Vocal fry is a creaky, deep sound made when the human voice is at the lowest register. For Ke$ha and Britney, the creak of vocal fry can be heard at the end of the verse lines in their songs. For Zooey and Kim, it’s at the end of their sentences. Listen here for some examples:

Justin Long is 'New Girl's' new love interestThough many "New Girl" fans might like to see Jess get together with her roommate, Nick, that probably isn't happening anytime soon. Instead, show creator Liz Meriwether is pairing up Zooey Deschanel's character with a fellow music teacher, Justin Long, an actor who almost seems born to play Jess's boyfriend. "He’s a music teacher at her school, and whatever the male form of 'adorkable' is," as Meriwether described him to reporters on Monday.

'New Girl's' Jake Johnson on Jess and Nick's relationshipAfter last week’s “New Girl,” in which Jess (Zooey Deschanel) walked in on a naked Nick (Jake Johnson) and saw his “bing-bong," it's safe to say that their friendship has reached a new level of awkwardness. But in a recent conference call, Johnson hinted that the budding friendship between Nick and Jess could turn into a romantic relationship. “I think Jess and Nick are in that state of really kind of feeling each other out,” he said. “I think they both definitely noticed each other.”

'Playboy Club' to be replaced by Brian WilliamsIt was slammed by critics from the very first episode, so it’s no surprise that NBC’s “The Playboy Club” has been axed after just three episodes. CNN can confirm that “Rock Center with Brian Williams” will replace the sexy '60s drama. Beginning October 31, the newsmagazine show will take over the failed show’s time slot. Until then, repeats of “Prime Suspect,” starring Maria Bello, will air on Mondays at 10 p.m. Since “The Playboy Club” premiered September 20 to 5 million viewers, ratings have dropped consistently with each episode. The most recent episode had 3.2 million viewers, according to the Hollywood Reporter. |
