Simon Cowell's "The X Factor" might not be the only Fox singing competition headed for another season of change.
The Hollywood Reporter heard whispers from sources close to production on the network's "American Idol" that the series was considering swapping new judge Mariah Carey for former judge Jennifer Lopez.

More than a decade after being crowned the first “American Idol,” Kelly Clarkson returned to the stage that made her famous to perform on “Idol’s” Thursday night results show.
Clarkson sang her new single, “People Like Us,” under black lights that showed off her dayglo costume, makeup and nails.

"American Idol" contender Candice Glover may or may not take it all this season, but according to judge Randy Jackson, she's already given a history-making performance.
Her rendition of The Cure's "Lovesong" earned both a glitter bombing from Mariah Carey and a standing ovation during Wednesday night's show.

"American Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe hinted that the ladies were the ones to beat this season, but Wednesday's sudden death round weeded out that talent pool considerably.
The idea of a "sudden death" elimination is a new addition for the singing competition. Ten singers perform over the course of an episode, and by the end five are sent packing in an effort to narrow down the field of contestants to 20. Wednesday was ladies' night, and tonight's episode will feature 10 men singing their hearts out in hopes of making it to Hollywood.

For the last audition episode of "American Idol" on Thursday, the judges panel was treated to a skirted surprise.
As Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj weeded through the contestants in Oklahoma, in walked one "Pepper LaBeija," there to spice things up a bit.
