Postcard from Sundance: Actors stop by and Jason Mraz singsThe CNN team got an early start at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday with set up and the first live interview with David Oyelowo, one of the stars of “Red Tails." Before he was interviewed by Kyra Phillips, the actor talked about the time he spent in Alabama screening the movie as well as how honored he was to be able to meet some of the actual men who flew the jets in World War II. Later in the morning, Blythe Danner and Melanie Lynskey stopped by to tape an interview about their movie which opened the festival, “Hello I Must Be Going.” Danner plays the mother to Lynskey’s character and the pair discussed the dynamic of playing those roles and how much fun they had working together. FULL POST Redford slams Congress, Romney, and debatesRobert Redford likes to say the Sundance Film Festival is all about the artists, but politics are always part of the equation. Redford set the tone at his opening day news conference (after first saying “I’m not going to get into politics”) by criticizing Republicans in Congress as narrow-minded. He also blasted the Republican Presidential debates, saying, the candidates have a “mushroom cloud of ego hovering” over them. He even took a swipe at Mitt Romney’s taste in movies. Sundance Film Festival kicks offDay one of Sundance is normally “set up” day. And this year is true to form, as all of the various venues in Park City, Utah, are finalizing their looks for the next week of movies, concerts and dinners. The famed Egyptian Theater, which hosts many of the film premiers during the festival, was home to the opening press conference on Thursday, where Robert Redford, the founder of the Sundance Film Festival, addressed this year’s crop of documentaries and films. Demi Moore talks film, romance and...more kids?Demi Moore is one of the most talked about stars at Sundance. She has two movies here, the Wall Street thriller "Margin Call" with Kevin Spacey and the dysfunctional family drama "Another Happy Day" co-starring Ellen Barkin and Kate Bosworth. I sat down with 48-year old Demi to talk film, family, romance, and - as she nears 50 - whether she wants more kids. Paul Reiser? Oh, he's at SundanceIf you've ever wondered about the whereabouts of Paul Reiser or Rutger Hauer, the mystery has been solved. They're both at Sundance. Reiser was one of television's biggest (and highest-paid) stars with "Mad About You," which ran on NBC from 1992-1999, but since then, he's been writing music. He appeared at the festival's ASCAP Music Cafe to perform original music he composed with vocalist Julia Fordham. It turns out that Reiser was a classically-trained pianist before he became a stand-up comedian and actor. Kenneth Cole in-'vests' in SundanceOne of the hot apparel items at Sundance is sleeveless, (down) feather-light and comes courtesy of designer Kenneth Cole. The retail magnate created a special down vest for festival volunteers, a hardy band who endure cold temperatures, long hours and the occasional obnoxious star, publicist or (heaven forbid) media person. All 1,600 volunteers got a free vest in recognition of their efforts, and some celebrities did too– we noticed them on the shoulders of Susan Sarandon, Paul Giamatti, Rosie O'Donnell, Ed Helms and Danny Glover, to name a few. They're not exactly Sundance volunteers, but they did volunteer to be warmed by Cole's vest. |
