Maybe this will soothe the wrath of the Beliebers: Esperanza Spalding says that she and teen idol Justin Bieber have more in common than you think.
The 26-year-old jazz singer, who raised the ire of Bieber fans when she beat him out for the best new artist Grammy, tells Billboard magazine that much like the 16-year-old Canada native, she has very humble beginnings.
"He has sort of a similar story to mine, coming from a single-parent family, low income, sort of having this stellar ascension in making his success through music," explains the Portland, Oregon, native. "I can really relate to that."

We're not sure what Johnny Depp has to say about Esperanza Spalding, but we do know he's definitely a Justin Bieber fan.

Millions of Justin Bieber fans want to be the teen idol's "Favorite Girl," but just what does it take to win his heart?
“I look for a girl who’s funny and who I can talk to, because if I can’t talk to them and have a good conversation, then, you know, it’s not gonna be really fun," Bieber tells CNN.
Oh, and two more things: "You have to have a nice smile and nice eyes," he adds.
Despite being a worldwide phenomenon with hit records, famous friends, and even a doll made in his likeness, the singer insists he's no different from any other 16-year-old and hopes his new 3-D movie, "Never Say Never," will show fans that.
"I’m a regular person like everyone else," Bieber tells CNN. "I have to clean my room like my grandma said… just do regular things. I want people to see that I’m not just some machine and I’m not just some robot that goes out there and sings 'Baby, Baby, Baby.' I’m actually a regular person."
"Never Say Never" hits theaters February 11.

Ten-year-old Willow Smith has gained a devoted fan following with her hit "Whip My Hair." And when it comes to her own taste in music, she counts dad Will Smith among her favorites — especially his 1988 DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince hit "Parents Just Don't Understand."
"Because," she tells Teen Vogue, "sometimes they just don't."
Smith, however, says dad Will and mom Jada are pretty easygoing. "They aren't strict. They won't be like, 'Willow, clean up your room!' They'll be like, 'Willow, will you please clean up your room?'" she says. "And I'll be like, 'OK,' and do it."
