Tom Hanks is rocking tonight

Posted: 08:18 PM ET

Tom Hanks is pumped! He's producing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert at Madison Square Garden tonight. While backstage, he offered up more of the  "Bachelor Party" Tom than Academy Award winner Tom, jokingly calling the press "jaded sons of a b-tch" and making reference to a movie title that I cannot repeat on a family blog.

He struck a more serious note when talking about the line-up which includes Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Crosby Stills and Nash, Bonnie Raitt, and Sting to name just a few. The concert is being filmed for a HBO special that will air Thanksgiving weekend. "I just did it for the all access pass," he joked. "I'm a fan, but I don't know what to say to these guys," he admitted.

The funniest moment of his quick press conference came when a reporter asked him about his favorite song of the year. He had to think about it for a second, but after his wife Rita Wilson helped him he said "ohhh Beyonce."  He couldn't remember the title, so he started flapping his hand and singing "Da da da da duh da da da" until someone helped him out by shouting "Put a Ring on It?" That was it, "and Kanye West had nothing to do with me picking that song," he concluded.

Kanye's companion ambushed by press

Posted: 11:27 AM ET

I covered US Weekly's annual event honoring the 25 most stylish New Yorkers here in Manhattan last night. The magazine honored recording artist Alicia Keys, designer Vera Wang, domestic maven Martha Stewart, models Elle MacPherson and Christie Brinkley and the Real Housewives of New York along with others.

Kayne West

The red carpet was tiny, more like a remnant than a carpet. But plenty of television crews crammed into the less than adequate space allotted to capture footage of the attendees. It was an overcrowded mess at times and especially when one particular honoree, Amber Rose, arrived.

Rose is the woman who has been seen on the arm of Kanye West in recent months. She accompanied West to the MTV Video Music Awards. There they walked the arrival line that evening without speaking to the press - as West carried a bottle of alcohol in one hand.

Last night, the moment Rose, with her signature blonde crew cut appeared out of the darkness the still photographers began their usual screaming match. She obliged for a time posing for photos, and then she tried to make her way down the less than sprawling carpet. Some of the journalists yelled: "How's Kanye? How's Kanye?"

A reporter from another network managed to get close to Rose. He asked her what designer she was wearing, she replied inaudibly, smiled and as the shouts became nearly deafening she managed to quickly make her escape down the carpet and past the press with the help of publicists. Then she was gone. Unscathed.

Do you think Amber Rose should have answered questions about Kanye West's behavior?

Kanye calls Taylor- Finally!

Posted: 05:48 PM ET

This just in to Showbiz Tonight: Taylor Swift’s rep, Paula Erickson, tells us that Kanye West reached out to Taylor after her appearance on The View to personally apologize.

Well it’s about time! Really Kanye? It took you 2 days? I accidentally bump into someone in a store and I apologize about 20 times because I feel so bad. When I feel like I’ve used the wrong tone on the phone with my parents I call them up to apologize again after we’ve hung up- and I am an adult. You ran up on stage, stole a microphone out of a teenager’s hand and hijacked her acceptance speech. Then you waited two whole days to apologize? Are you serious?

On top of that, she had to go on The View to say that you hadn’t personally apologized before you bothered to pick up a phone to give her a ring. Let me guess- you thought going on Leno first was a better career move, right? That’s what I thought. Well, it certainly helped Jay Leno- his ratings were through the roof. You got your press too; that clip of you “near tears” has been played everywhere today.

Kanye, the point is this: yet again you made it all about you when the fact of the matter is that it should be about Taylor. That night should have been about Taylor, the speech should have been about Taylor, and the apology should have been about Taylor. So how come all roads seem to lead back to you Kanye?

Kanye West, how dare you ruin Taylor Swift's moment to shine!

Posted: 03:28 PM ET

Do you remember when you were a kid? Do you remember what your wildest dream was? Were you an athlete, a singer, a dancer, an actor? There was some sort of award that went with it I am sure- something that signified the pinnacle of success, whether it be a Heisman trophy, the Stanley Cup, a Grammy, an Oscar, or even an MTV Video Music Award.

Taylor Swift

I vividly remember being a little girl and standing in my room practicing my speech- it was for a different award every time, sometimes for a Grammy (which trust me, I was never going to win), an Emmy or an Oscar. First, let me set the scene: I would pull back my hair, put on way too much makeup, and drape a sheet over me pretending it was a gown and stand in front of my mirror. The speech always went something like this; “This is a dream come true for me! I am trying to keep it together and not cry (meanwhile I would try to work up a tear). I want to thank my family for their constant support. I never would have thought that I would have so much success at such a young age. Thank you to all my fans.” I will spare you the rest, but keep in mind, I was young so be kind with your comments on my lack of originality.

I am pretty sure that even though many of you may not admit it, you did the same. Well imagine that against all odds- absolutely impossible odds, you achieved immense success. Say you became a huge country star by the age of 16 and crossed over to pop music, becoming a superstar by 19. You are not only nominated, but invited to perform at the “cool kids” party of the year- the MTV VMA’s. Everyone knows that while other awards equal prestige, the “Moonmen” that MTV gives out at the VMA’s are an artists ticket into another level of the fame stratosphere.

Last night Taylor Swift should have been able to live out that moment that I know I dreamed of when I was a little girl. She stood on the stage at Radio City Music Hall with her hair pulled back, wearing just the right amount of makeup, draped in a gorgeous, perfect dress and stood poised to make what I am sure would have been a touching speech from a deserving teenager. Then, Kanye West, after sauntering down the red carpet swigging Hennessy, stormed the stage and ruined this poor young girl’s shining moment.

Shame on you Kanye, shame on you.

Backstage at MTV VMA's: Taylor Swift fan club

Posted: 12:06 AM ET

Yeah, Kanye's unsettling display is all the talk of artists coming backstage. If the red carpet was all about the coming Michael Jackson tributes, then the show was about Taylor Swift and Kanye.

Taylor Swift

Green Day frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong, told a few reporters backstage, "She's young, she'll get over it. But, he needs to get over it." Armstrong's bandmate,  Tre' Cool added, "He needs to apologize, definitely. That's about as low as you go."

All American Rejects' Tyson Ritter came backstage with a drink in his hand to say Swift should let it roll off. When someone asked if Swift cried over the episode, Ritter answered, "Oh, God, I hope not. She's got like ten million records. She should just stand on her fat wallet and pile of money and cry on top of that."

Then, shortly after the sweet moment of the night– when Beyonce came on stage to accept her Video of the Year trophy and invited Swift on stage– Taylor Swift came backstage to pose for still photographers and answer a few questions from dotcom and print reporters.

This was bigger hub-bub back here than the Madonna appearance. Cameras flashing, tape recorders in her face, the "Best Female Video" winner proved nothing but a picture of grace. We asked her to describe what occured from her perspective. Swift said,  “ Well, I was excited to be on stage because I just won the award. And then I was excicted that Kanye West was onstage. Then, I wasn’t excited anymore”. She noted that she’s been getting tons of text messages of support and so many other artists have been supportive here at the show.  As for Beyonce's on-stage invitation,  “I couldn’t love Beyonce more”, she added.

Asked if she was a fan of Kanye’s she answered, her voice quieting, “Yeah, he’s Kanye West”. As the media pushed and her publicist pulled her away. “I don’t want to start anything I am just having a great night”. See all the winning videos on MTV.com.

What do you think? Do you think this VMA episode is going to hurt Kanye's career?
