It's not a secret that Ellen DeGeneres wasn't cut out for giving blunt critiques on Fox's "American Idol," but in a new interview with Parade magazine, she says there was more to her decision to leave the show.
DeGeneres lasted as an "Idol" judge for only one season, partly because as a self-described sensitive person, she likes to be "around kind, gentle people," she tells Parade.
"It was hard for me to judge people [on 'Idol'] and sometimes hurt their feelings," DeGeneres says.
Famous vegans Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi are providing their animal product-free brethren with one more dining option, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The blonde power couple are going in on a vegan restaurant with The Pretenders singer Chrissie Hynde and producer Steve Bing. The new L.A. eatery will be located on Ventura Boulevard in California’s San Fernando Valley.
Vegan chef Tal Ronnen, who catered Ellen and Portia’s wedding, will create the restaurant’s menu. Designer Waldo Fernandez, who’s worked for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, will do the space’s interior.
Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia are throwing open the doors to their expansive Beverly Hills compound in the November issue of Architectural Digest.
This home once belonged to actress Joan Collins, and fell under the ownership of "Will and Grace" co-creator Max Mutchnick after that. Mutchnick, a friend of the couple's, invited the pair over one night to watch "American Idol" and they fell in love with the home on the spot.

"We'd heard how beautiful it was," Portia tells Architectural Digest. When they came over that night to watch "Idol," she recalls, "We pulled into the driveway and - we just knew before we even walked through the gate."
Forbes’ latest “100 Most Powerful Women” list is out, and political heavy-hitters like Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, First Lady Michelle Obama and Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, predictably scored top spots.
But the top of the list also includes Lady Gaga!
The controversial pop star is listed at No. 11, surpassing all the other celebrities on the list.
While hooking up with his best female pal may seem like fun in his upcoming movie, Justin Timberlake believes real-life casual relationships can sometimes get too serious.
"It's a really good idea until it becomes a bad idea," the "Friends With Benefits" star tells Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday's edition of her talk show. "It probably becomes a bad idea really fast."
Timberlake, who co-stars with Mila Kunis in the steamy new comedy, adds that emotions inevitably get in the way.
Justin Bieber is slightly younger than his reported girlfriend, Selena Gomez, but that doesn't mean she views him as her little brother.
Visiting the "Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Tuesday, the 18-year-old Disney actress backtracked on prior remarks she'd made about the 17-year-old singer the last time she was on the show.
“He’s little," Gomez previously told DeGeneres about rumors that she was dating the teen sensation. "He’s like my little brother. That’s weird to me.”
