Wednesday night marked the return of "American Idol" with brand new judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.
We never imagined we could miss Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler so much.
For the first night, we were treated to auditions from New York City, where contestants rolled through offering up what was supposed to be their best for a shot at a golden ticket to Hollywood.
As you can imagine, there was much tension and disappointment. Oh, not so much from the singers, but from some of us viewers regarding Mimi and Minaj.
Mariah Carey is just full of announcements lately.
The 43-year-old singer and mom of twins recently revealed on Twitter that she has a new song, called "Triumphant," set to arrive in early August, and she's also confirmed that she'll be a new judge on "American Idol."
"Queen of hip-hop soul" Mary J. Blige belts out some rock classics in her new movie musical, "Rock of Ages," and it may have inspired her to do the same in real life.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Randy Jackson is very close to signing a deal that would have him managing Mariah Carey’s career.
Apparently Mimi and the “American Idol” judge go way back. Jackson was the vice president of A&R for Columbia Records during the 1990s, where Carey was signed from 1988 to 2001.
Plus, Randy has a long history of working closely with Mariah. He played bass for her in the studio and on the road, served as her musical director, appeared on her records and has co-written and produced tracks for the diva.
"American Idol" was a love fest for the judges last season, but Jennifer Lopez says this season things have gotten more heated.
People reports the singer told "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show that she and fellow judges Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler have already butted heads.
"Me and Randy and Steve got into our first fight," she told Seacrest. "I got really, really upset." FULL POST
“American Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Wednesday to talk about tonight’s “So You Think You Can Dance” finale.... and to drop an “Idol” bomb.
Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson will all be back behind the judges’ table for the show’s eleventh season.
The announcement came after Seacrest asked Lythgoe, “Do you want to go ahead and do the Jennifer announcement here, or are we still waiting?”
