![]() testing captions So what's next for the reality TV queen Kate Gosselin? Another reality show, of course! The newly divorced mom of eight told talk-show host Jay Leno on Friday night that she would be interested shake her groove thing as a contestant on ABC's hit dance competition show, "Dancing With The Stars." Kate Gosselin told Leno via satellite, “Yes, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ because I cannot dance. I want to laugh at myself. I so cannot dance. It would be a sad sight.” Kate Gosselin and her husband Jon Gosselin were officially divorced only hours before the Leno show aired on Friday. ![]() testing captions After nearly 30 years of marriage, the parents of Grammy award-winning singer Beyonce have filed for divorce. In a statement released last week the couple, Mathew and Tina Knowles, said the decision to end their marriage will not effect their joint business endeavors. “The decision to end our marriage is an amicable one. We remain friends, parents, and business partners,” the couple stated. “If anyone is expecting an ugly messy fight they will be sorely disappointed. We ask for your respect of our privacy as we handle this matter." Read the rest of this entry » Posted by: Jo Piazza, Special to CNN December 20, 2009 Brittany Murphy, 1977-2009Posted: 05:53 PM ET
I don't remember whether I saw her first in "Clueless" or an episode of the amazing "Murder One," but Brittany Murphy usually stood out from the crowd. Her performances as damaged or unbalanced characters were particularly compelling: "Girl, Interrupted" and "Don't Say A Word" come to mind. I wasn't a huge fan, but I'm sad that her life was cut so short, and that it's likely she'll be remembered more for her early death and whatever the police and coroner's investigations find than her considerable on-screen talent. ![]() testing captions At the beginning of the 2000s, artists from N’Sync to Eminem set album sales records. By the end of the decade, the album was somewhat of an antiquated concept, as a new generation of music buyers just bought individual songs they liked from iTunes. But the album has been music’s primary artistic statement for almost a half a century now. And while many of the world’s greatest artists produce great singles, their collections are greater than the sum of their parts. Even with the demise of the album, despite what those living in the past say, the best of this decade can match up with the best of any other decade. Some of the most revered and acclaimed artists of the 2000s, from Jay-Z to Radiohead, didn’t even make this list. Who did? A mix of popular and obscure artists. A mix of country, hip hop and rock royalty. And a few artists you’ll want to add to your collection. Here’s our end-of-the-decade list, so you can starting debates among friends, fellow music fans, and frankly, people who just like to debate. testing captions Let me start this by saying I am a geek. In fact, I am an uber-geek and someone who loves everything that is geeky in the world! With that in mind, I was so sick and tired of hearing about "Avatar." I was sick and tired of being told how cool it was going to be, how it was going to change movies, how it would change the way I would watch movies. I started to feel like I was being told that if I did not like this movie, I was not a good geek but some poser geek - or maybe not a geek at all. So why did I get in line at 11:15 p.m. Thursday to wait my turn to go in and see "Avatar" at 12:01 a.m. Friday? Because I am a geek, and that is what we do, right? Let's start with a quick synopsis of the move (just in case you have not read a magazine, watched TV or used the Internet): “The story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. As an Avatar, a human mind in an alien body, he finds himself torn between two worlds, in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people. More than 10 years in the making.” (rottentomatoes.com) So how was it? It was fantastic. I could not get enough of the world we were thrust into. The world that I knew was 100 percent computer-generated, but after the first 15 minutes, I forgot or just did not care. It was so real - so incredible - that I felt like I was there. If you saw the original "Matrix" in the theater and remember the scene when Trinity stopped in midair for the first time, you get how I felt when we descended onto the planet for the first time. The acting had its flaws, and the music left a lot to be desired, but the action - the story - was so much deeper than I thought. I really thought it was just going to be the usual "we want what they have, so we kill them to get it" stuff - and it was - but it was told to us so, so much better than we have seen it before. Yes, the action at times made me a little queasy, but I never felt sick. (There were some in the theater who had to get up and run out at certain junctures.) Yes, some of the dialogue could have come from a bad sci–fi video game. But is that why you went to this movie? Again, I have to ask: Did you see the effects? WOW! Will this movie stand the test of time? Heck, no - and most non sci-fi/geek fans will walk out wanting their money back. For everything I loved about this movie, it's by far not perfect. But that said, I still think it's incredible. I will say: Do not judge this by the trailers. It is so much more and so much better than what we saw. This is a movie that needs to be seen on a large screen - and by seen, I mean experienced in the way only a movie of this size can be. As I write this, at almost 4 a.m. Friday, I am going to end by asking: So who wants to go see it again? Repeat iReporter Adriana Maxwell of Marietta, Georgia saw “Avatar” last night and was quite impressed with it. She says the 3-D effects were the most seamless she has ever seen within a live action film read her review. testing captions Avatar’s enormous budget may well be worth it. The James Cameron 3D adventure flick, opening tonight at midnight, has already sold out hundreds of showtimes across the country, according to online ticket-seller Fandango. The fantasy film, which has received mixed early reviews is besting this summer’s science fiction favorite “Star Trek” in advance sales. ![]() testing captions Taylor Lautner might want to watch out because someone wants his girl for Christmas. Evan Taubenfeld, a singer-songwriter and former member of Avril Lavigne's band, has penned a cute little ditty wishing for a gift of Taylor Swift this holiday season. The song, "Merry Swiftmas (Even Though I Celebrate Chanukah)," has become a hit in the Twitterverse and online. "I want a good girl for hugging and kissing and not a head case who only dates jerks," Taubenfeld sings. "I don't need more toys and shiny things. I just want a blonde who likes to sing." The whimsical performer proceeds to list other celeb hotties he'd pass up including Megan Fox, Amy Smart, Lindsay Lohan, Penelope Cruz and Angelina Jolie if only "Santa, for my gift, please send me Taylor Swift." And of course, no Taylor Swift mention would be complete without also referencing rapper Kanye West. Taubenfeld croons "No one will mess with her when she's mine. And Kanye will watch his mouth next time!" Swift was reportedly charmed by the song. The music video ends with her appearing on Taubenfeld's door step on Christmas morning. Taubenfeld told MTV the object of his affection was as sweet and as charming as he had imagined. "I'd say even more so," Taubenfeld said. "She's a genuine person. I'm not sure that Lautner was too stoked about it." Filed under: Taylor Swift celebrities music 'Harry Potter' star is top-grossing actress of 2000sPosted: 12:33 PM ET
![]() testing captions Elder stateswomen of the silver screen take note: the box office darling of the past decade isn't Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon or Cameron Diaz. It is 19-year old Emma Watson. Watson beat out 24-year old Keira Knightley for the top spot.
