The world of country is Miranda Lambert's oyster - for this week, anyway.
The country superstar released her new album "Platinum" on Tuesday to glowing reviews, and is poised to have a very big night at the CMT Music Awards on Wednesday, where she holds the most nominations.
But in case anyone thinks that Lambert's success has gone to her head, the 30-year-old singer-songwriter is quick to clarify that "Platinum" isn't about her chart dominance - it's a lifestyle.
"When you're in the industry and you hear 'platinum' you think platinum album. But platinum is a lot of things: it's hair, it's diamonds and platinum, it's Bud Light Platinum, it's the color of an Airstream," Lambert explained to Billboard. "So I hope that other people don't look at that title and think, 'oh my God, she's thinking her album's gonna be platinum.' That's not what I'm thinking. I mean, yeah, I'd love that, Mom says, 'say it as though it's so.' I hope all my albums go platinum. But it's more about my life and my lifestyle and all of those things that encompass that word ... It just felt right."
According to music critics, "Platinum" sounds right too.
"With the refined, pristinely polished 'Platinum,' her fifth LP and most mature, well-rounded effort to date, Miranda crosses the threshold," Spin magazine praises. "She's no longer a girl finding her way in the world, but rather a wiser, advice-spewing woman - still a s***-talking firecracker, though one who's comfortable with the notion that her rowdiest days may be behind her."
The New York Times calls "Platinum" a "vivacious, clever and slickly rowdy new album," with Lambert "finally becoming a sophisticated radical, a wry country feminist and an artist learning to experiment widely but also with less abrasion."
Rolling Stone, which just had Lambert pose on its cover, was similarly impressed, handing "Platinum" four stars.
"Mostly ('Platinum') shows how Lambert earned her throne: by singing top-shelf songs in the voice of a woman getting real," the review says.
