First look at Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix

We've all seen Outkast's Andre "Andre 3000" Benjamin rock a mic, but never like this.

The music artist has transformed himself into the late and legendary Jimi Hendrix for the biopic "All Is By My Side," as American audiences can now see in the first footage from the film.

The movie is set to screen at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas on March 12 after premiering at the Toronto and Stockholm International Film Festivals last year, but it doesn't have a U.S. release date yet.

Benjamin told Rolling Stone that he "listened to hours of interviews" and "watched films" in order to nail down Hendrix's voice and mannerisms, and we can see and hear the work he put in with this snippet.

"All Is By My Side," which is written and directed by "12 Years A Slave" Oscar winner John Ridley, focuses on the rock musician's life from 1966 to 1967 as he transitions from being a backup player in New York to a burgeoning star in his own right in London's music scene. By zeroing in on just one year, the movie hopes to paint a portrait of Hendrix when he was "on the verge of becoming a rock legend."
