The new season of "Dancing With the Stars" has had a shocking elimination, and it hasn't even started yet.
ABC has confirmed that Tom Bergeron's co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet has been replaced by former "DWTS" competitor and sports reporter Erin Andrews ahead of the upcoming season.
"No stranger to the ballroom, Andrews competed on the 10th season of 'Dancing with the Stars,' making it all the way to the finals," the network said in a statement. "Known for being a pioneer in sports broadcasting, Andrews’ skills from the field are sure to be an asset in hosting a spirited dance competition."
Burke-Charvet first alerted her fans to the out-of-nowehere switcheroo on Friday night, when she tweeted that she'd had a "weird day":
Like Andrews, Burke-Charvet is a prior competitor on "DWTS." She entered the competition in its seventh season, and then went on to replace Samantha Harris as host of the reality competition in 2010.
"I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting 'DWTS' but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture," Burke-Charvet said in a statement to E! News. "I've always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn't able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I've seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake."
That last remark undoubtedly worried some fans that Burke-Charvet was less than happy about this change, but she's told her followers on Twitter that there's a silver lining in being "eliminated."
The 18th season of "DWTS" will return to ABC on Monday, March 17, and the new contestants will be revealed on "Good Morning America" March 4.
