Mariah Carey on her new album and 'Idol' mistake

If Mariah Carey's latest music video is an indication of what her new album will sound like, we're in for a more au natural Mariah.

The singer has debuted her single "You're Mine (Eternal)" along with a fresh clip that features the mom of two topless for much of the video. (She's not the only one who lost her shirt on set - Trey Songz, who's on the song's remix, is largely in the buff as well.)

Like her prior single, "The Art of Letting Go," "You're Mine" is a cut from Carey's upcoming disc that's now officially slated for May 6.

“There’s going to be a certain type of song that will be reminiscent of ... “The Vision of Love”-era songs," Carey told Z100's Elvis Duran on Wednesday of what fans can expect on the album. "There are songs that are reminiscent of album cuts that only real fans would know, and then there’s the modern meets, you know, mid-tempo.”

Carey sounds thrilled to be back in action with music after taking a brief detour into TV with "American Idol."

“The real Mariah was SO not there," she said of her time on the Fox reality show. "Let me just tell you why! I should’ve been a mentor on the show and that’s it. I should’ve been like the Jimmy Iovine and we love Jimmy! Jimmy did a great job! He’s a little brutal sometimes and I didn’t always agree with his assessments, but yeah! I mean, Jimmy knows what he’s doing; he’s discovered a lot of great talent.”

If you'll recall, Carey served on "Idol's" prior season with Randy Jackson, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, with much of the tension on the show coming from Carey and colorful rapper.

“What happened was that I was led to believe that I was going to be in a three-panel show, like the traditional way, and yet, somehow ... well, I won’t get into the legalities," Carey said. “You know what, it’s also a thing (where) you gotta follow the rules, follow the rules, and hey! Everybody’s just trying to do their job. But I felt that going in the direction of making it into a reality show, was not something I signed up for."
