Jim Parsons will host 'SNL,' and more news to note

Today's talk you might've missed:

  • Jim Parsons is ending your long wait to see him host "Saturday Night Live" on March 1. We can't wait for the Sheldon riffs!
  • Speaking of "SNL," it's not going to be all alums all the time on Seth Meyers' "Late Night." While he will have Amy Poehler on as his first guest and Fred Armisen as his band leader, Meyers' first week will also include Vice President Joe Biden, Kanye West and Lena Dunham. [THR]
  • The Academy Awards will feature a performance from basically everyone except Scarlett Johansson. U2 and Karen O. have joined the lineup to perform best original song nominees "Ordinary Love" and "The Moon Song," respectively. (Karen O. wrote "The Moon Song" for "Her," so it does make sense that she'll be the one to perform it rather than ScarJo, who sang it in the Spike Jonze film.)
  • The CW sees no reason to get rid of "Arrow," "The Vampire Diaries," "Reign," "The Originals" or "Supernatural," so they've all been renewed for another season.
  • Bruce Jenner may or may not be done with "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," depending on which Kardashian you've been keeping up with. [TMZ/People]
  • Got a spare $150,000? Katherine Heigl, Hollywood actress who we'd think should be getting residual paychecks from "Grey's Anatomy," wants to borrow some bucks to get her new movie made. [EW]

That time Leo DiCaprio passed on 'Hocus Pocus'

Leonardo DiCaprio has had some amazing roles during his career, but according to him he gave up the chance to have at least one magical one.

The "Wolf of Wall Street" star told Variety he was offered “more money than I ever dreamed of” for the chance to snag a gig on the Disney film "Hocus Pocus" around the same time he was hoping to land a role in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," the film that went on to help launch him as a star.

Mariah Carey on her new album and 'Idol' mistake

If Mariah Carey's latest music video is an indication of what her new album will sound like, we're in for a more au natural Mariah.

The singer has debuted her single "You're Mine (Eternal)" along with a fresh clip that features the mom of two topless for much of the video. (She's not the only one who lost her shirt on set - Trey Songz, who's on the song's remix, is largely in the buff as well.)

Amber Heard, Johnny Depp and that engagement ring

Some stars are repeat CPDA offenders - that's celebrity PDA - but Johnny Depp and Amber Heard normally keep their relationship close to the vest.

That all changed at Wednesday night's premiere of Heard's movie "Three Days to Kill," as the reportedly engaged couple gave the cameras something to shoot for.
