Nudity's worked for our furrier friends, so why wouldn't it help save some fish?
Gillian Anderson is giving it a whirl. The former "X Files" star has posed topless, wearing just a conger eel around her neck, as part of a U.K.-based awareness campaign by Fishlove.
The 45-year-old actress joined the project to support sustainable fishing, a cause that already has a roster of famous supporters, including Ben Kingsley, Jerry Hall and her daughter, Elizabeth Jagger.
On her Twitter account Wednesday, Anderson shared her eel-loving photo and urged her followers to sign a petition asking members of the European Parliament to end a destructive form of deep-sea fishing called trawling in the Northeast Atlantic.
"This is a global issue," the "Hannibal" actress said along with a link to the petition.

Ms. Anderson starred on 'X-Files' – did not appear in the 'Hannibal' flix.
She is in the Hannibal TV series.

The best way to save a species from extinction is to serve it on a dinner table. Cows in America are a prime example. If they did not taste so good who would want one? Look at India, they keep the cow alive by worshiping it as a god; And America still has more cows even though India's population is 400% larger. Buffalo in America is another good example of an Animal that was almost wiped out and saved by serving it on the dinner table.
Time has not been kind to her.
Funny, we were just saying the same thing about you.
She's 45, in great shape and the only thing you can tell from her facial lines is that she probably smiles a lot. I don't know what people in their mid-40s look like where you're from but she's easily considered a beautiful woman in my area.
Time has not been kind to her.
wow are you an azz tweety.... she's 45 and if you had a lineup of 100 American women who were 45... statistically, 60 of them would be obese, and of the remaining 40, she would be in the top 3 for certain.... she looks great
I'd bang her.
I can go with either...
Eal: "I got Scully bewbbage."
That eal looks pretty calm. Apparently not one of the shrieking variety.
The eel looks calm because it is dead.
My name is Inigo Montoya...
Sad....go be old somewhere else
We can just eat fish flavored tater tots right ?
I know what naked looks like and that is not it.
Wrong - the eel is most definitely naked.
Maybe its just me but, When I first seen the photo it looked kinda like a snake (serpent)...then i seen the tail in her left hand looking like the number 6..then i said,,is this satanic?
You lost me at "...then I seen..." It's then I SAW, you uneducated dolt.
HERR DERRRR. TROLLS R STUPID...SEE TROLL HACK. HACK HACK HACK.
What a lucky eel.
I bet that eel fits nicely inside her hoohaw.
Nice. Now if that eel will just move...
Naked for a good cause huh...you mean to be a pervert is a good cause...
You mean to be naked is to be a pervert? I'd hate to live in your conservative, guilty mind.
To all of you harping on her age...Phhhhhttttt. There's a beauty that only comes with age.
I'd crawl over broken glass to take her to dinner and listen to her read the phonebook.
desperate are you fella?
...and then LICK HER SNAPPER!
Looks totally photoshopped. The eel casts no shadow at all.
It's a new special effect, they call it 'lighting'.
Eels are like vampires in that they cast no shadow or reflection.
Boy, I bet that felt awful.
looks way better with red hair
FACT: THERE ARE SO MANY BETTER WAYS TO ASK PEOPLE TO PROTECT ANIMALS....
I DON'T GET IT.
There are better ways to ask.... but there is no better way to get people to pay attention.
I tapped it....
LMAO !!! Poor thing, seems like she's using the eel to promote her career.
She's in 3 TV shows and is busy with movies and theatre projects for the next few years. She's doing better than ever. But I agree about that eel: it definitely needed a career boost. ;)
she's not doing anything.
So, what does a conger eel, not commercially fished, have to do with anything??
Conger eel is in fact fished commercially. It is quite tasty and you don't have to pick out any small bones etc. Found on many seafood menus in Chile and other South American restaurants.
Will Ben Kingsley be posing nude any time soon?
Gillian Anderson never played in Hannibal. Do you mean Julianne Moore?
She's on the new NBC TV show 'Hannibal,' not the movies. That tripped me up at first too.
What the heck is going on in this picture? She loves eels, so she takes one out of the water and poses with it while it's gasping for air? That's messed up!
On the other hand, that eel gets to lay all over her bare B( o )( o )Bs. Lucky!
there is no way to tell if is real
Age hasn't been that kind to her, her cause is just and it was nice of her to participate. Now get some roles and get back out there and it will help even more.
Gillian looks so young for 45. Amazing actor.
Saw her in The Fall. Loved it.
She is one hot mama.
It is called makeup, layers of it.
How amazing she is looking. Beautiful and important cause.
Love Gillian. Great woman and always focused in good causes. And beautiful
Fish love? Looks like eel abuse. Lol, put that thing back in the water, it's gasping for "air".
I seen her naked a looooooooong time ago, now I don't want too.
Too old, smokes too much.
She looks old
Not uri ne baths
Sok, long time no hear. Good to hear from you. I agree with the Peace eel abuse post. This is alot like the PETA no fur nekkid campaign, and here she is keeping that poor eel from water. But I loved her in X Files and don't care about the eel. I'd turn up the thermostat, no pesky shirts required, then cook that eel into a tasty dinner for two and gaze lovingly across the table at her exemplary mammaries heaving and jiggling as she converses. Mmmmmm.
Why? Did you lose a bet or something?
you must be at least 12 years old then. what a loser.
I want spread shots of her.
Just you and Rosy Palm, huh?
And what will you eat after the fish stocks are exterminated? Talk about missing the whole point.
@Eric, the world is overpopulated. After the fishes die, we would need to cull the herd.
The message isn't to not eat fish, but to fish the seas in a less environmentally detrimental way.
