Battle of the new dads: Prince William vs. Pauly D

Believe it or not, there are a few things Prince William and Paul "Pauly D" Delvecchio of "Jersey Shore" fame have in common.

They're both new dads, they're both in their early 30s and - what do you know - they're both in the news this week.

But here's where the similarities end: it seems that those on Facebook are more interested in Pauly D's newfound parenthood than Prince William's royal lineage.

When you look at the worldwide mentions of Prince William - whose son, Prince George, was christened this week - and Pauly D - who recently revealed that he has an infant daughter named Amabella - DJ Pauly edges out his regal competition. Over a 72-hour period beginning October 21 at 8:30 a.m. ET, there were 19,580 mentions regarding Prince William on Facebook compared to 20,230 for Pauly D.

If you break it down by gender, more women than men - 77 percent versus 68 percent - were mentioning Pauly D, and the former MTV reality star also captured the attention of the more seasoned demographic.

If we had to guess, we'd bet those people were trying to figure out all the details surrounding Pauly D's surprising revelation. According to Pauly's Twitter account, it sounds like the 33-year-old was a little caught off guard himself.

"Sometimes in life things aren't planned and they may even scare you at first, but they end up being a blessing," he tweeted on October 24.

People magazine reports that Pauly D met the mother of his daughter once in Las Vegas. They spent one evening together, and then the 25-year-old, who's been identified as Amanda Markert, flew out of Vegas the next day. She was introduced to Pauly through a friend who's dating a member of the star's security detail.

Pauly D has yet to meet his little girl, but he's excited to be a dad. One source told People that when he learned about Amabella, he "requested immediate visitation and ... hopes to gain fully custody of the baby."

As he told TMZ on Monday, "I'm proud I'm a father. I am excited to embark on this new part of my life."

I'd be interested to know how this author got his facebook stats. Are these the stats from his own friends list? From CNN's friends list? It's not like you can see everyone's facebook page and what they post. In any case, hurray for the dude who didn't even know he was going to be a dad, screwing whoever shows up in his hotel room without protection.

Pauly D better get a paternity test done, STAT!
But I agree. Prince William is more important to the rest of the world, not just snot nose MTV watching lames.

William has more class and money. Pauly just has money and that's going rather quickly.

Pauly D is not known outside of the US and I doubt would be interesting outside of the US. CNN is getting more and more US-centric in its pop culture reporting.
