'Breaking Bad' spinoff: Vince Gilligan spills details

We might not have said goodbye to "Breaking Bad's" Walter White after all.

Vince Gilligan revealed in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter that both Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul - who played meth pushers White and Jesse Pinkman, respectively - are both interested in making appearances on the "Breaking Bad" prequel spinoff, "Better Call Saul."

The series, to be spearheaded by "Breaking Bad" pros Gilligan and Peter Gould, will focus on White's smarmy lawyer, Saul Goodman (played by Bob Odenkirk). While it was initially pictured as a half-hour comedy, Gould and Gilligan thought they could spin it into a lighter, one-hour drama in the vein of their acclaimed "Bad."

And, by doing so, Gilligan is fully aware that he's putting himself in the line of inevitable disappointment.

"There's obviously a danger inherent in doing a spinoff, but I just love the character of Saul Goodman so much, and part of me doesn't want to say no to this world," he told THR.

It turns out he can't say no to a little more Cranston and Paul either.

"Personally, I'd have a hard time resisting putting all these guys in for a cameo or two every now and then," Gilligan admitted, adding that he and Gould are "one-hour drama guys."

"We figured, 'Why not shoot Saul in the same way?' Let's shoot it in Albuquerque, let's get as much of the crew back together as possible, and let's do it the way we did it before so that it will be of a piece with that pre-existing fictional universe that we had so much fun creating."

"Better Call Saul" is expected to bow on AMC in mid-to-late 2014.

I'm weary of this spin off, but it would be great to have these guys back in ABQ again. It was fun seeing them around town! They really were part of the community when they were here.

This can be done, Hell they did it with the Star Wars movies. Better Call Saul series can be made as if it were before breaking bad was made.
