James Franco for '50 Shades,' and more news to note

Today's talk you might've missed:

  • James Franco stars in just about everything else, so why not "Fifty Shades of Grey"? Britney Spears, for one, would buy a ticket to that movie. "I love James Franco," she cooed to London's KISS FM. "I think he's really cool." But the more we think about it, the more Britney Spears' casting suggestion makes perfect sense. EL James and Sam Taylor-Johnson, get on that. [HuffPost]
  • As if "Toy Story 3" wasn't horrifying enough - we can't be the only ones who covered our eyes during that furnace scene! - Pixar aired a Halloween special called "Toy Story of Terror" on ABC Wednesday night. We didn't watch it, but a lot of you did: The half-hour special tied for top ratings with Fox's coverage of the American League Championship Series. [Zap2It]
  • And if "Toy Story of Terror" wasn't sufficiently horrifying, try this new "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" trailer on for size:
  • America Ferrera is going to answer our prayers and come back to TV, although granted, it's just a pilot for right now. The former "Ugly Betty" actress has been cast as a justice-seeking nun in the new CBS drama, titled "Damascus." [Deadline]
  • It looks like the JoBros really aren't getting along that well. (What happened to blood being thicker than water, guys?) The band's Twitter account has disappeared after news that they've canceled their tour amid a "disagreement." [Gossip Cop]
  • We love Bill Watterson, but we're also curious to see a properly done "Calvin & Hobbes" movie could be. However, Watterson isn't as interested in animating his classic characters: "As a comic strip, Calvin and Hobbes works exactly the way I intended it to. There‚Äôs no upside for me in adapting it." [Mental Floss]
  • Was Selena Gomez crying while singing "Love Will Remember" at her Brooklyn concert because she was thinking about Justin Bieber, or did a stray eyelash get trapped someplace it shouldn't? Bets are on the former. [TMZ]

Vanity Fair to unleash what Gwyneth Paltrow doesn't want you to see

We're used to celebrity feuds, but this standoff Gwyneth Paltrow's reportedly in is a little different.

Idris Elba has never watched 'The Wire'

There's always one.

With every highly praised TV show that has been added to the "essential viewing" list - see: "Breaking Bad"; "The Sopranos" - it's guaranteed there is still some poor, uninformed soul who's managed to miss the entire thing.

Idris Elba is one of those people.
