Kate Beckinsale's next role is going to be ripped from the headlines.
The 40-year-old "Underworld" actress has joined Michael Winterbottom's TV movie "The Face of an Angel," which has a story similar to the trial of Amanda Knox.
Deadline reports that script, written by Paul Viragh, is based on the book "Angel Face" by Barbie Latza Nadeau.
In Winterbottom's cinematic telling, model Cara Delevingne will portray the prime suspect in a murder, and Beckinsale will portray a journalist hunting for the truth. Daniel Brühl ("Inglourious Basterds," "The Fifth Estate") also stars as a documentary filmmaker chasing the case.
Production is set to begin in Tuscany, Italy.
Knox, the 26-year-old who was convicted and later acquitted in the 2007 murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher, is now the subject of a retrial in Florence, Italy, that began in late September.
