The man who could become the next Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey" has a name few would expect.
While everyone's suggesting Matt Bomer and Ryan Gosling as replacements for the part actor Charlie Hunnam just vacated, reports suggest that actor/model Jamie Dornan is starting to look like the front-runner.
The Hollywood Reporter's heard that Dornan, 31, was one of two actors who almost landed the part of Christian Grey during the first casting go-round, but ended up losing to the more recognizable Hunnam, who stars on FX's popular "Sons of Anarchy."
But in the U.K., the Irish-born actor isn't such an unknown. Dornan got his start as a model - notably posing in skivvies for Calvin Klein - before he turned to acting. The star, who carried on a closely watched relationship with Keira Knightley for two years, currently portrays a serial killer in the BBC series "The Fall."
In the States, fans of ABC's "Once Upon A Time" will also remember Dornan as the Huntsman/Sheriff Graham.
Before you start picturing how Dornan handles a pair of handcuffs, know that the actor doesn't have the "Shades of Grey" gig locked down. THR reports that another Brit TV star, Christian Cooke, is being considered, as well as "True Blood's" Alexander Skarsgard. (Oliver Stone, meanwhile, is championing Leonardo DiCaprio for the job.)
What is evident is that studio Universal will have to act fast. Hunnam's recent exit left the project with little wiggle room to re-cast the role of the wealthy sadomasochist, as production is supposed to start on the anticipated adaptation on November 1.
