Another 'Bourne' movie for Jeremy Renner

Matt Damon hasn't completely ruled out the idea of doing another "Bourne" movie, but for now the franchise is continuing without him.

Deadline reports that Universal is putting a fifth "Bourne" film in motion, one that will once again star Jeremy Renner as the chemically enhanced agent Aaron Cross.

Renner took over the franchise as Cross with 2012's "The Bourne Legacy" after Damon, who starred in the first three thrillers as spy Jason Bourne, turned down the fourth installment.

Co-written and directed by Tony Gilroy, "Legacy" restarts the "Bourne" franchise by looking at a program similar to Treadstone called Outcome, which used pharmaceuticals to enhance the strength and intelligence of agents like Cross. When the program is terminated, Renner finds his character on the run with one of the scientists behind the program, played by Rachel Weisz.

Universal is reportedly hoping that a fifth film would continue to explore Cross' storyline without precluding a return from Damon. According to Deadline, the studio hasn't made any apparent progress in getting Damon to come back, although the actor knows Universal would like to make that happen.

"That would be their dream," Damon said in March. "Tony (Gilroy)'s whole thing was, 'Look, my story won't preclude Matt from doing another one. This one can live on a parallel track.'"

In the meantime, Renner will carry forward the "Bourne" legacy as he lines up other action roles. The 42-year-old new dad will star in the upcoming "Avengers" sequel and the next "Mission: Impossible" movie, in addition to appearing in David O. Russell's "American Hustle" at the end of this year.

Legacy SUUUUUCKED so bad. The whole appeal of Damon's Bourne was that he seemed to be an average guy but was programmed to be a ruthless killer if he was messed with. What's the deal with these chemically enhanced supersoldiers that fly through trees and need to get a fix every couple of days? That's just STOOPID.

Jeremy Renner – Bourne movie. This is a boring story – no buzz necessary.

Despite it being her home state, only 18 percent of Alaskans think Sarah Palin should make a bid for the White House in 2016, with 77 percent— including 72 percent of Republicans — saying she should stay out of the election.
