On Sunday, Twitter reacted to the back-to-back news of the Trayvon Martin verdict and Cory Monteith's death by piling on another headline - except this one wasn't true.
Many were repeating the statement that Kyle Massey had been diagnosed with cancer and/or was dying from it, but the Disney actor and "Dancing With the Stars" contestant has said in a statement to JustJared.com that the rumors are false.
"I don’t know where this inconsiderate and insensitive rumor originated from," Massey, 21, said. "Cancer is a disease that is very personal to me and my family ... So, making light of any illnesses that a person has no control over getting is not something to joke about or make light of!"
It's unclear where the rumor originated, but Massey said he and his rep plan to get to the bottom of it.
"I support Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles through Disney Channel and Britti Cares International in support of children with various diseases and illnesses and donate my time with pride and dignity," the actor went on. "This hoax is just plain classless! Especially in light of the various tragedies happening this weekend and the Trayvon Martin verdict."
