For the Internet, finding out the identity of Benedict Cumberbatch's villainous role in the upcoming "Star Trek Into Darkness" is the final frontier.
However, at one point even the "Sherlock Holmes" actor didn't know who he was playing.
"I didn't have time to read the whole script before I began," Cumberbatch told MTV News.
Even though the actor went into the project somewhat blind, what sold him on the film was "a very good pitch" from director J.J. Abrams on the phone. (And, of course, he eventually did get to read a full script.)
As far as who Cumberbatch is actually playing, no one on the production will dare say. Yet that hasn't stopped the online rumor mill from getting turned up to warp speed with suggestions that he's going to portray anyone from classic "Star Trek" villain Khan to an evil Jean-Luc Picard (the beloved captain from "Star Trek: The Next Generation").
Regardless of his role, Cumberbatch promises that the plot will satisfy.
"And it was interesting - I loved the story," he said. "It was so complex and intriguing and funny."
"Star Trek Into Darkness" premieres nationwide on May 16, and May 15 in IMAX.
can we move forward....this is way too ridiculous
Honey child, it's -–ALWAYS-– about the sausage!

if some stooge would quit sh!tting in the middle of the floor.
Absolutely no other actor should ever portray Captain Picard but for Sir Patrick Stewart. The thought of anyone else in that role is....unbearable.
...and a guy with a huge nose and wang!
Go to IMDB and freeze the trailer at 53 seconds...
at least that's his name...
It's John Harrison, I saw his name on a screen when I saw the trailer the other night...
In the new film, the Khan character goes by the alias "John Harrison" until about halfway in, then reveals that he is actually Khan Noonien Singh.
Attach the blog too the movie.
Good god, people, you are CNN!!! Just look at the IMDB web page for the darned movie, and you can see that it's Kahn! It's been covered around the world, and CNN still can't get it right!
And yet here you are, trolling on CNN. You look more like a boob than anyone else commenting here.
not an escalator!

this guy is so hot...who is he again?
go it all spinning..
Whomever he turns out to be at this point, it couldn't possibly live up to the hype.
He's playing Kahn - even my dog knows that.

you look foolish as usual.
what do you think he's planning?
this has been the worst kept secret in film making. We all know who he's really playing. We've known for almost a year now.
not a good way too find a girlfriend.
Why aren't you doing something about this message board? Nobody can, or want to come on here to post anymore with this nonsense.
Usual deal. Soc on this one. Let's ruin this one too set an example.
To me this is the Be All and End All of questions. Why does CNN allow comments at all when most are entirely vile and contribute nothing to the reading audience. I've even written several editors at CNN asking why they continue this obvious and desperate source of ad revenue, but have never received a reply (though I have when I inquire about ANYTHING else).
Hey John, Would you Kindly shut your whiny, fcuking mouth?
Yeah, John - quit being such a crybaby p*ssy and STFU. Jeez!
I have forseen both of your comments and they both scuk.

they wear big filthy sweaters and stretch pants...
I wonder if people will dress "trekkie" for the opening of the movie like the Harry Potter fans did when that came out...?
I've been to the openings of 7 Star Trek Films (5, 6, Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis, ST2009) I have seen people dress up. It's amusing in some ways, not so in others.
lets go for mandy...can you pass? I can
