Neither Mariah Carey nor Lauryn Hill are letting troubling headlines get in the way of new music.
Granted, the news swirling around Hill is more serious - while Carey's still (still!) embroiled in a reported feud with fellow "American Idol" judge Nicki Minaj, Hill is dealing with matters of the law.
The singer, who was sentenced to three months in prison on Monday, recently announced that she's signed a recording contract with Sony and is at work on new music.
Over the weekend, Hill gave proof that her Tumblr post didn't hold empty promises, even if she wasn't releasing the song completely on her own accord.
"Here is a link to a piece that I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline," she posted to her site, along with the iTunes link for the track "Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)."
"I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music ... but the message is still there," Hill said. "In light of Wednesday’s tragic loss (of former label mate Chris Kelly [of Kris Kross]), I am even more pressed to YELL this to a multitude that may not understand the cost of allowing today’s unhealthy paradigms to remain unchecked!"
Meanwhile, Carey's been busy dropping hints (and hashtags) pointing to her collaboration with Miguel, and on Monday, the final product arrived. Here's "Beautiful":
