Watch: 'Thor: The Dark World' trailer debuts

After helping to save Earth in last year’s “The Avengers,” it seemed Thor was due for some time off.

But from the looks of the first “Thor: The Dark World” trailer, which debuted on Tuesday, the hammer-wielding Norse god has been tasked with saving the whole universe this time around.

In the second installment of Marvel’s “Thor” franchise, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) will join Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in Asgard, as Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) threatens to turn the world dark.

At the end of the trailer, we see that Thor is forced to ask his brother and archenemy Loki (Tom Hiddleston) for help defeating Malekith and his Dark Elves.

“You must be truly desperate to come to me for help,” Loki tells Thor from his cell.

“You should know that when you betray me, I will kill you,” he replies - to which Loki asks, “When do we start?”

“Thor: The Dark World” will hit theaters on November 8.

Hopefully someone says this to the person who thought it was a good idea to make this.

Looks like an episode of Dr. Who. In fact, I'm pretty sure I saw the Tardis whiz by in one of those scenes.

Why do they insist in showing Thor and other Valhalla gods wearing Roman-style body armor?
Vikings wore little more than leather protection, a mail shirt and a cup-helmet (possibly with the legendary horns).

His costume is supposed to resemble the outfit that he wears in the Marvel Comic Books.

Because they are doing the Marvel comics version of Thor and the Asgardians. The look of the characters is based on the artwork of co-creator Jack Kirby, and the many artists who came after him on the comic. I don't think any of them were trying to do accurate Vikings portrayals but superhero-sh version of the Norse legends based on Hollywood versions of them and that were cool and exciting.

Pete, as noted above, Thor is a Norse god, not some run of the mill, average everyday viking from days of yore, schlubbing around robbing and pillaging. Everyone knows the Norse gods made way more money than the average viking mortal, so they could afford better and fancier armor, along with better housing, food and drink. That's why the lowly VIkings worshipped them. It's kind of like how today, lowly schlubs worship people like the Kardashians.

Now that Thor has ost all that muscle for the racing movie, heno longer looks like a hero. I think Loki look bigger/more manly than Chris Hemmsworth does now. Thor should be downgraded to a plastic Preskool hammer!

Can it finally be said?? Natalie Portman is hugely overrated! Natalie, stick to the artsy-fartsy movies where you can overact and leave the action movies alone.

Dude, I like art films too! Please don't wish that ham of a B-rated actress on art films either. I mean can't she just retire, or use her skill in something like silent movies which require over-acting to convey emotion?

People didn't like the way in which Portman portrayed Foster in the first movie. They seemed to say there was no spark. I think it was more the story of a person from an academic background coming into contact with a being of almost god-like status and simply being awe-struck. The picture at the top of this blog seems to suggest the same type of relationship again, but it looks to be more natural this time. Should be good!

In a trailer for a movie about space-faring Norse gods fighting dark elves who existed before the universe, the Earth character's outfit jumped out at you as being "unrealistic"? ... Really?

Why does it look like Loki is wearing a hoodie? I don't get it. It looks very casual American rather than Asgard attire – especially for a prison scene. Strange.

Re – The Vikings (on The History Channel) – I really think Ragnar made a mistake in letting one of his strongest warriors be sacrificed to the Norse gods. They should have tried to talk Loki's girlfriend into being the sacrifice. When the group goes to fight the King's enemies they may regret their decision.
