Yoko Ono has entered the debate over gun control with a handful of tweets and one arresting image.
On Wednesday, the artist and activist posted an image of a pair of bloody glasses, frames that her late husband John Lennon was wearing on the day he was murdered outside of his New York home.
"Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980," Ono said along with the photo.
"We are turning this beautiful country into war zone," she continued. "Together, let's bring back America, the green land of peace."
Prior to his death, that effort was a pursuit the couple shared. With March 20 also marking what would have been their 44th wedding anniversary, Ono tweeted, "We decided that if we were going to do anything like get married, that we would dedicate it to peace."
Reflecting on the years that have passed since Lennon's murder, Ono tweeted that she and the couple's son, Sean, still miss him.
"The death of a loved one,” she said, “is a hollowing experience."
