Tone Loc collapses at concertA concert in Des Moines, Iowa, came to an end on Saturday after rapper Tone Loc collapsed during the show. The Des Moines Police Department told CNN that the rapper was taken to a local hospital for what's believed to be a seizure. According to the Des Moines Register, the "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina" artist had finished performing a song when he fell to the ground. The paper reports that others at the show attended to the rapper for about five minutes. The concert, which was being held at a bridge overlooking the Des Moines river, was shut down after Tone Loc's collapse. CNN's reached out for more information. |

its very serious....just sayin
"Purple Drank" takes its toll on another (c)rapper.
I live in Des Moines and I think its an insurance scam. It was a cold day for St Pattys day and only 200-300 people were there. The person who promoted this I bet worked out a deal with him to take a fall because of the low turn out.
Someone should look into this!!
ohhh...i thought it was just because it was who was performing
Poor 'ol Tone Def
Another rapper down.. o well ..
.....please don't leave me, i'm smarter then her, i'm better then her, cry....that's it reading time...
He had a concert that was at a bridge overlooking the river? Lucky he didn't fall in.
True. It could have been worse like that.
hahahahahahaha
Thank you for your insightful and sensitive comment.
All three audience members were given a refund.
that was hilarious, hahahahaha
They must have changed the (Pot) Weed Formula because these Rappers now having it's side effect with seizures.
I'm so sick of celebrities collapsing and having seizures and crap. These 'celebrities' need to step up and stop it with all this collapsing drama, they only do it for publicity – when was the last time you heard of this Tone Poc loser?
A little too much Funky Cold Medina . . .
I remember when Frank Sinatra collapsed on stage.
Yeah, he did it for publicity.
Uh huh. Sure.
I love all these simple explanations from equally simple people.
The real shock here is that he can sell tickets to anything. The man has not been relevant in 25 years.
And we go a little somethin like this.......hit it....... THUD!!!!
Ah man, that was priceless. Very good writing. Cannot stop laughing.
My best wishes for him
He was great in ACE VENTURA:Pet Detective.
I though Loc had some kind of low grade medical thing going on like a Thyroid thing or diabetes. I'm supprised he's still doing shows, really. Get better guy, you were always fun and funny, two things we need more of.
@ Tube Screamer....you can't possibly be serious about that "Tone Lok" nonsense....that's some foolishness right there; I'm pretty sure you've never heard of this rapper before today
MORE LIKE 'TONE DEAF' AM I RITE? LOLOL
Must have caught a case of that "Funky Cold Medina!"
Turns out, years of rapping will cause severe mental problems.
Actually, being a rapper is a sign of mental problems, brought on by not being good at anything else except smoking weed and drinking cough syrup.
Imagine a life so lame where you sing 24 year old rap songs to support yourself. Trying to keep the late 80's alive to put food on the table. This guy needs to go away, sorry.
Come on. Try being positive. It feels good.
Hey, he probably still makes pretty good money doing it. Part of making it in show biz is living off your fame on the Has Been Circuit.
at least he doesn't go to a gray, little cube and sit in dull meetings, filing TPS reports every day. He probably makes more money than you do.
His songs still stand the test of time, you on the other hand will die a nobody. Fans will still go and listen to him in concerts till the day he dies, you have no fans.
A2432 I guess all people that believe in God should die – right now! People like old music and artist, get well Tone Loc.
Yeah The Rolling Stones would never do anything like that...
Yeah. Somebody doing the same thing for 25 years to make a living. Weird! Never happens.
I just heard 'Funky Cold Medina' on the radio just now...After 20 years it's still going strong... And when is your song coming out? Oh that's right, never.
You are a sad, strange little man – I pity you. Tone Loc's stuff was some of the very best of vintage rap, and is still insanely funny and catchy today. My teenage kids laughed their heads off when I showed them Funky Cold Medina on Youtube. He's still got it. You, on the other hand...?
It was probably because he swallowed his handcuff key, he swallows it every Tuesday.
Kwantsu dude!
too much wild thing lol
oh im sorry too many people having seizures so is my dog too . maybe something in the water or in the food . get well soon
March 26, 2013 is International Purple Day, wear purple or purple ribbons for support of persons living with seizure disorders and for epilepsy awareness. Three million Americans are living with epilepsy, including the current Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. I personally would like to see my daughter drive someday; she's 19, never even sat in the driver's seat of a car. She's at a university with a good bus system, but there are no guarantees of a finding a career in an area with good public transportation. She's had seizures for 8 years, mostly (but not all) controlled by meds.
I hate to say this, but use of cocaine and some other like drugs can cause seizures such as what we are now seeing with Lil Wayne, Kelly Osbourne and Tone Loc – I am not saying that's the cause of all of these occurences, and I HOPE IT IS NOT, but seems very curious to see all of this happening time after time, after time. When you abuse drugs unfortunately you suffer the consequences. Very sad.
It's no different than anything experienced in music entertainment during the 60's, 70's, 80's, etc. The only difference between then and now is the media microscope, Twitter, and Facebook.
And people who make assumptions are ignorant. Just a general rule.
Oh I guess all those young kids who have seizures as children are all on crack. Im glad your here to figure this all out for us.
Another one bites the dust..... It must be some kind of new disease for entertainers to catch. It just seems to be going around a lot lately, doesn't it? Too much partying, and not enough taking care of oneself? I don't seem to remember any of the great bands ever having people collapsing during their shows.
Are you joking? Seriously? Jim Morrison, Keith Moon with The Who, the list goes on an on. I hate older people who think things were somehow better "back in the day".
It's not that things were better back in the day, it's just that there's more focus on entertainers these days, and there are cell phones with cameras, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Really now? Are we forgetting the drug and alcohol fueled Rock and Roll scene of the 70's-80's, where not online did you have musicians taking the stage incredibly intoxicated, by often dying of overdoses/injuries obtained while intoxicated (see Terry Kath of Chicago shooting himself accidentally while drunk, John Bonham choking on his own vodka induced vomit, Joplin's overdose, Bon Scott, the list goes on).
This is not new. Fame, and the lifestyle that it brings, often breeds this sort of behavior. It is nothing new and implying that it is is, at best, disingenuous.
Like I said, Brian, I don't seem to remember anyone keeling over during a concert. If you remember them collapsing during a concert, then you must be older than me. We all know that the older bands all partied, but they seemed to always finish their concerts. Sorry to make you so upset.
Neil Young had epilepsy, he used to go off stage after Buffalo Springfield concerts back in the late 1960s to have his seizures. Allegedly, that's why the band never did encores. He's also had successful brain surgery. Nothing new.
@sal. I don't remember anyone doing all that stuff on stage. I think that was the point she was making. Nobody disagrees that they partied, and we all know about what they did in their private lives. They may have been stoned out if their minds, but they usually made it through their concerts.
I still think Snoopy Dog is the best. He is just plain cool.
Psssst...he changed his name some time ago to Snoop Lion.....roarrrrrr
Shame on some of you. I worked with Tone Loc before he's a gr8t person gr8t rapper. So he wants to keep his music alive is wonderful. My prayers are with you Tone Loc Get Well soon and keep on keeping on!!!!!! Rick James kept his music going and many more b4 him and after him. R.I.P. Rick James.
RIP>>>>> RAP, the music is DEAD, OVER, GONE....understan what i'm sayin....
That "t" on gr8t is like so superflous dudette, sort of a reverse stutter. It grates on me. Just keeping the Twit abbreviations real.
Ton, I still enjoy your music, especially the Medina thing , "know what i'm sayin?"
God be with you and we hope you are back in the swing of things and fly again soon.
All the best,
A Fan
Wait a minute...Tone Loc is still alive?
Yes he is. And it seems that news agencies and readers are reporting on and are reading about his very existence (including you!). Why not shout out some positivity and wish him a speedy recovery?
Isn't this like the third time that he's collapsed at a show? The guy might want to consider something more in line with his age...like golf, or shuffle board.
Funny thing....Kelly Osbourne collapses with a Siezure and ends up in hospital....L'il Wayne same thing, now Tone Loc.....could be something being injested that these "star" types are doing?? Hmmm maybe something snorted or smoked???
those cold medina's kind of sneak up on you.
I always thought sebody should give her a coat. That ways she wouldn't be so cold. Poor thing.
Seriously does anyone know who this is? The meer fact CNN is posting this is stupid because there are millions of people that have siezures everyday but CNN doesn't report on those numbers but because this guy has one "it's important and news worthy."
Yeah, I know who Tone Loc is. Seriously, you don't? I'm sure you listen to good music like Lady Ga Ga.
I know he's the guy that stole his "rapper name" from Ibanez guitar pedals. Oh yeah, he changed it from "Tone Lok" to "Tone Loc". Yeah, nobody noticed. Can these guys think up nothing on their own?
I'm an embicile and even I know who he is. I'm not a rap fan but his stuff is ok. Most of the early rap is ok IMHO. It used to be about cool stuff like guns and drive bys. Now it's just about secks.
The fact that you clicked the link, read it, and then commented on it about it being a stupid article is hilarious enough in itself.
I know who he is. And people have always wanted to hear about famous people. That's why there are entire magazines devoted to it.
Yep, and you have your head up your a** if you don't.
Adam why did you click on the article if you don't know who Tone Loc is? I'm very curious about people and their motivations, so a response would be for my personal edification. Thanks in advance friend!
"Say what?"
@ Tube Screamer....you can't possibly be serious about that "Tone Lok" nonsense....that's some foolishness right there; I'm pretty sure you've never heard of this rapper before today
Wow, Adam, what a lame life you must have, to posted about people you don't know!
I hope he will be ok. Maybe just dehydration or something.
