[Note: This post contains spoilers for the March 17 episode of AMC's "The Walking Dead."]
This week's "Walking Dead" was exhilarating.
We spent the bulk of the hour watching Milton's growing disillusion with the Governor, and Andrea's rough-and-tumble escape out of Woodbury.
In an episode nearly bereft of scenes at the prison, "Prey" treated us to old and new sets at Woodbury and beyond. Let's take a look at the places that set the stage for this week's episode:
1. The Governor's new toy: The dentist's chair
If the image of a dentist's chair doesn't bring about enough anxiety for you, try one that's surrounded by knives, scalpels, fish hooks and a plethora of other improvised torture devices.
It was disturbing to see the Governor pace around and indulge in the fantasies of his demented psyche as Milton and Andrea witnessed it all hiding from a floor above.
Having learned from Milton that the Governor wants Rick to turn over Michonne, Andrea was horrified that the chair and all the sharp accoutrements surrounding it could be used against her once-BFF.
It was enough to drive her to make an escape run out of Woodbury. While Milton wasn't ready to flee the place he calls home - or outright turn on the Governor - Andrea's plea to stop "looking the other way" seemed to strike a chord.
2. Main street and the wall
Woodbury was in full swing in preparation for the prison siege. Its residents did their part by turning over all weapons and ammunition to the Governor's army. Even Andrea, while secretly executing her escape, was stripped of her firearms when she came across Martinez on Main street.
Meanwhile, doing his best to defend his new home, Tyreese took some much-needed practice shots as his sister Sasha egged him on. They were serving as lookouts on a side-street perimeter wall, and it was there that Andrea tried to lure them away for long enough to make her escape.
But at their refusal, Andrea let on that the Governor is not to be trusted and that she's had enough of Woodbury, where things aren't as they seem.
3. Zombie Georgia
After he confronts and manhandles Milton for confiding in Andrea, the Governor jumped on one of the all-terrain trucks he has on hand and raced away, doing everything in his power to keep Andrea from reaching the prison.
And what a ride!
Pine forests, grasslands and the open road served as the background to one of the best chase sequences this show has put on. It was a welcome sight to see the landscape outside of the prison's fences and Woodbury's walls, where this show has spent most of its time this season.
4. A dark scary place
Time and again we've been treated to the dark, winding, blood-splattered interiors where the heroes of this show battle horde after horde of zombies in exhilarating close combat. But this time, the zombies were a side dish to the real threat.
In this episode, it was the Governor's turn to ramp-up the thrill while he whistled, crashed windows and paced around an abandoned building, killing any zombie that came between him and his prize: Andrea.
This scene is what horror movies are made of.
5. Woodbury's zombie pit
Martinez, plus a crew that included Tyreese and his three pals, headed out to Woodbury's zombie pit, where the Governor keeps a stash of zombies at the ready for Milton's research (and any other gruesome uses the Governor dreams up).
They were tasked with rounding up zombies to sic on Ric and the others. There, while hashing out old conflicts with his friend Allen, Tyreese makes it clear that he's not happy with the Governor's methods. His encounter with Andrea seems to have left more than a sneaking suspicion.
That evening, a mysterious crusader arrived at the zombie pit on what appeared to be a truck from Woodbury, and proceeded to douse and set fire to every last zombie on site.
While Milton's beginning to see the Governor for the monster he is, we're left to wonder: How far will Milton go to sabotage the attack on the prison? And how will the Governor react to a fissure in their allegiance?
Did we miss anything? Tell us what your favorite scene and stage was this episode. What do you think will happen with Andrea? Will Rick and Michonne come to her rescue?
C'mon people, It was Morgan that set the walker pit on fire. He knew that Rick was in the middle of a fight with someone and has become extremely resourceful and stealthy. Also the guy who burned the walkers was fully covered from head-to-toe just like in the epsiode where morgan was found, And i pretty sure i remember seeing gas cans in that episose.
Ok, the walker Pit: Whoever did it needed freedom to move at will. If it were Milton, someone in Martinez' wall watch group would have seen him leave. Though a crafty man, Milton does not seem a man of action to go it alone and against the grain. Then again, his conversation with the Governor does make Milton appear the culprit. On the other hand, Morgan was shown euthanizing the walkers by fire in the previous episode. Perhaps he has changed his mind.
And does anyone else think the Gov was bit when rushed by the dozen walkers in the abandoned building? When the Gov returned to Woodberry, he favors his left hand when unbuttoning his coat, when he is clearly right handed. He also holds his right arm stiffly against his belly, ala Napoleon, when he approaches Milton. Even Milton voiced his concern.
This portion is really happening for me, i like it a lot... "During the last night's show,
Andrea tries to get above the security fence to leave the town. "
Well, I too have a fenced society but cant get over the fence, since it will give me a electric shock, bought it
I mean Martinez
I am a smelly ape that is dumb as a rock. All I know is banging and welfare food.
I believe one of the devices next to the chair was for examining a woman's who who, no?
TOTALLY!!! I thought the same thing when I seen the Gov'ner taking his "tools" out...creepy fuk!
I really hope they spare most or all of the cast ...I would like a break from losing major players for awhile.
David Morrisey has a 3 yr contract w/ TWD. Not sure how that will go. I think Milton will do some damage but bite it eventually. Not sure if they plan on Morgan coming in or not. That would be cool. Tyrese needs to bump off d-bad Dad. Martinez is a wild card but probably wont change allegiences. If no one knows where Andrea is..then how will a rescue (if there is one) come off? Michonne was brutalized hy the Gov in the book but perhaps Andrea is the one in the TV show. Michonne survived....so could Andrea then. I really think the people of Woodbury will revolt in mid battle. Just guessing
I think it was Martinez that burned up the walkers in the pit. I think Merle and Michonne will work together...got to Woodbury with Michonnes as his "prisoner" to suprise the governor and attack. I think it will go terribly wrong and the governor will fight with Merle and Merle will become a zombie (left for dead but not put down through the head). I think Milton will save Andrea...
Your need too stop picking on her...
hello is anyone home...
I think Michonne developed feelings for Andrea while they were alone together during the winter. It seems to be more than a BFF friendship relationship. Michonne can certainly do better than Andrea. Maybe she will hook up with Tyrese next season. They could form their own community based on African American culture and principles.
Preach it girlfriend. You speak the truth.
Such a compassionate conservative there, "QueenVelveetaJamimaLaqueetaTelmaColenderDaKeeshaaLaWafflez." How do you manage to surf the net and post racist commentary while wearing that pointy Klan hood? Isn't it difficult to see out of the eyeholes?
Don't worry, be nappy!
I bet either Milton or Michonne rescues the whoorr lady. Wish they wouldn't bother helping her but am sure they will.
Maybe Merle and Andrea will hook up. She seems to like anything with a pair of pants on, and Merle could probably use an ol lady to keep his clothes washed and to fry him up some bacon.
Is it just me or does everyone else also think Andrea is a sk@nk h-oe ? I bet the walkers would be afraid to eat her for fear of catching an S T D.
ROTFLMAO. I was thinking the exact same thing.
That is so MEAN! – i kinda agree tho! I love Andrea, nothing wrong with being a litlle bit sk@nky!
This episode really setup the confrontation we are expecting for the season finale and it’ll be exciting to see what Milton does now that he is questioning what the Governor wants to do to the prison group. I work at DISH and several of my coworkers thought that Andrea was in the clear, but it looked like she is in serious trouble. I missed Sunday’s episode, but caught up with it this morning since it was recorded on my DISH Hopper. I like that I can catch up with new episodes of my favorite episodes anytime I want, and not worry about space for other programs because my DVR holds up to 2,000 hours of entertainment.
Is no one else as concerned about the gynecolgical tools the govenor set out along with all the other torture-y stuff, as I am?
Naaaah. Andrea will probably enjoy that part, being a H0 and everything.
I was thinking the same thing Tracey!! Like what the F is it doing there??? I watched The Talking Dead after and they went on set and the guy that built the little chamber of horrors, showed us all the tools....EXCEPT the speculum. What the hell man!!
get it all out...
it just left...
This is one of my favorite shows but it can be very nerve-wracking and this week just about killed me. I thought for sure the Governor was dead but then thought it was too easy and it was! Looking forward to the next 2 episodes before the season ends.
I hope someone feeds Andrea to the zombies.
I agree with you. Andrea is the worst. Hopefully this will be her last season on the shoe.
Let's start with you first.
was my one good album out of twelve - 43 million units sold worldwide! I wish it would sell more copies - I'm late on my rent.
- Meat Loaf
I think the governor got bit. I like the idea that it was Morgan who torched the walkers. Milton better watch his back and I'm counting on him to rescue Andrea, although she is a pain in the but and deserves what she is "bound" to get.
She's the only one who still is trying for peace and to focus on the real threat. Not a pain in the butt, she's being moral to honor Dale.
I think the Governor was bit too. When he was talking to Tyrese and Milton he kept pulling his coat closed like he was trying to hide something.
thanks for the insight you will the bell of the ball tonight
not the actor
I gotta quit reading these blogs. I wait & buy the full seasons of WD & Game of Thrones before watching. Luckily my life of debauchery & hedonism has left me with horrible short term memory loss, so hopefully I'll forget this whole article by breakfast
bloo is visiting this way also...pls make sure nada is in "drive" seat...
take out what is on masheen please...affects blooe fone check...
he exploded over hearing...and now the c's are arriving
the girls in our family iz noodie girls....
I don't know. Honestly I thought it was a pretty good episode. I liked it alot better than last weeks. It would have been nice if the walkers had eaten the governor though.
Andrea should have shot him when she had the chance.
we find emma too be a dud
The person who set the zombies on fire was Milton. The Governor assumed it was Tyrese because he had been speaking against some of the Governor's actions. But when the Governor asked Tyrese he had no explanation of where the gas came from, that is how he figured it may be Milton. I am hoping for Andrea to get rescued by Milton and they, along with Tyrese's group get out of Woodbury and off to the prison to warn Rick's group. But with two episodes left who knows what will happen..
girls cook noodie too...she probably don't cook either
Thank god you got some sense. The rest of these guys are freakin idiots if they didn't catch onto that.
it survives because of the hudson brothers–
God I hope he got bit(Gov) I am afraid that Milton is toast.
you remain because of the 3.– i will applaud you for having no fear in making these hard working men look stupid.
in a few hours...ladies are we ready for this!!! HAHAHA-
I recorded it and will hopefully get to watch it tonight. It's fun to watch. Maybe it will be action packed.
we know you still checked it....the intrusion light went off again
I wish you had some pizza. Or some really good cookies. I'm sorry. We hope you get to have something extra fun and delicious soon.
If there was no truck leaving Woodbury then I'm guessing the person who torched the walkers in the pit was Morgan. Never saw the truck before and that was his method of getting rid of walkers for him. Go back and watch 'Clear' to look at the signs to connect the symbolism of this episode.
Oh yeah, good thought!
Seriously??? No one on this thread caught on that it was Milton??? Not one person??? Guys...rewatch the episode...and pay attention to the conversation with Milton and the Governor about the pits....it's clear as day!
1. it was hong kong flights...they have never been near china
2. non of the numbers match.
3. my parents have never been in debt...
Why didn't Andrea take the Govenor's truck after she left him fighting the walkers? She heard it pull right up – maybe the Gov had the remote start key still in his pocket? At least try to grab some guns out of it.
I was thinking the same thing!! Then even if he did get away from the walkers alive he would have never caught up with her. She could have at least looked to see if the keys were in the truck!
I may have yelled that same thing to my tv! I was like this is why you are going to die. You are so dumb. Glad I wasn't alone in that thought.
Andrea seems to miss every good opportunity to do something in this series! She could have cut his throart in bed, shot him in the clinic or made sure he died with those zombies, it is getting kinda frustrating like in horror films when they go upstairs alone to see what that noise was EERH!
I HEAR A BEEP GO OFF MY PHONE 1 MORE TIME FROM SOMEONE OVERHEARING A CALL THAT WAS AN ERROR...WE ARE CALL THE DEPARMENT....WHOEVER YOU ARE....
That was a great episode! Two thing: 1. The Governor got bit! did anyone notice how he was holding his side and keeping his coat closed? 2. The mystery person obviously is someone from Woodbury of authority who could take the truck out without being questioned – or maybe it was someone who was on watch? who know, but it's was a great episode.
But my question is, how does Lindsay Lohan figure into this? Was she on last night's episode? If not, then why not? Aren't we supposed to be talking about her? She is gonna be locked up in a rehab center for nuts for 90 days.
I think It was Lindsay Loohan in the truck. She is famous and gets special priveledges like not being put in jail. And i think she gets to go outside the fence to get licker.
wanna go to a male review tonight?
Guys.....its clear...that it was Milton who torched the pits. I mean...is everyone freakin blind??? Think of the conversation that Milton and the Governor had about the pits....seriously people!!
Thisis sad news. How can Lindsie Luhan make p@rn while she's locked up in rehab?
Lindsay Lohan agrees to plea deal including 90 days at LOCKED rehab facility, 30 days of community labor.
Shut your remote off
Great episode ! I will be so sad if the Gov hurts Michonne. She is by far one of the most interesting characters of any season.
In the comics he kept her prisoner and raped her repeatedly. She is the one who killed the Governor in the comics.
Hey Triumph, have you been p00ping on the wrestling section of Yahoo Answers? If not, your imitators are branching out...
It's most likely an imitator as I do not believe I have been to the wrestling section of yahoo answers. It's good that they are spreading out. I am very flattered by all of them. They all make my fame grow. Now if you will excuse me I believe my rectal warriors are ready to invade my neighbors refrigerator.
Large steaming dumps in the neighbor's fridge – I'm sure it's well deserved. I'm building up a bountiful brown mess if you need additional dumpage.
MMM poo slushy fresh out da freezer!
Although I have enjoyed the series so far.... a few things are bothering me..... and last night was a big one for me.
During the show lastnight, Andrea tries to get over the fence to leave the town. After a lengthy conversation, she manages to get over and takes off..... okay, thats fine.
But my problem is.... later in the show.... a truck pulls up outside the town and someone sets the walkers on fire.... my problem is.... how does someone leave the town without anyone noticing???? Andrea couldn't even "walk out" without someone seeing her... but this person to take a truck, get through the gate, grab gas and set them on fire... seriously????
I dunno.... just seems like something that someone would have saw.....
Yeah & how about her fighting off several walkers & not getting bit by the 1 who had her mouth on her arm...? 2 more epi's to go.
The one who lit the fires didnt come from woodbury or the prison.....morgan?maybe..
she's disrespectful tool..... lives only because of the 3 wisemen's positive reputation....daz it...
it for them and only them--it does not fear embarrassing them–good for it.
@Patman......they made it quite clear in the episode that it was Milton who torched the pits.
Unless it is someone who has authority to come and go as they please...like Marinez. People think it is Milton, but if it was, why didn't they just show us, the viewers, that it was Milton. It wouldn't matter to us. I think there are more than a few people that are close to the Governor that are against his tactics, but don't want to go against him publicly for fear of what would happen to them. Two more episodes to go...a lot of questions to answer and new ones to ponder for the next year until season 4!!!!!
