Sunday night's episode of "The Walking Dead" shed some light on what drives both the Governor and Rick, as well as why there can never be peace between Woodbury and the survivors in the prison.
Andrea tried to set up a summit of sorts between the two leaders, but it only served to escalate things between them.
Here are five of the key scenes from this week's show:
1. The Governor sets forth his terms with Rick
On the surface, it seemed to be a fairly simple way out for Rick: all he had to do was turn over Michonne to the Governor within two days.
However, that's not what Rick told the group at the prison. He told them that the Governor wants all of them dead for what they did at Woodbury, and they're going to war.
Later, Rick told Hershel the truth, hoping he would talk him out of handing over Michonne. Hershel argued that she earned her place in the group by saving Glenn, Maggie and others. Rick countered by asking Hershel if he was willing to sacrifice his daughters for her.
It doesn't look like Rick is going to change his mind in going by the Governor's terms.
2. Merle and Glenn face off
Merle was ready to head out on his own to the meeting and kill the Governor right there. When Glenn told him he would just get more people killed, the two of them came to blows with Maggie joining in.
Beth broke it up by firing off a gun. (Always full of surprises, that one.)
(And those who like Maggie and Glenn as a couple were probably very pleased with this episode, as they're most definitely back together.)
3. Milton and Hershel's meeting of the minds
One of the best scenes of the episode by far was Hershel and Milton's discussion about how Hershel lost his leg.
Hershel told Milton that because there aren't any doctors in their group, they just learn these things through trial and error. Milton was fascinated, and wanted to take a look at Hershel's stump to see how far above the bite they cut in order to stop the infection.
Hershel joked that he barely knew him, and he should at least buy him a drink first.
The list of really funny scenes on "The Walking Dead" is a short one, but this would definitely make the top ten.
4. Andrea must make a choice
It was quite the episode for Hershel, actually, because he made Andrea come to a realization this week.
She confessed to him that she couldn't imagine going back to Woodbury. He told her that the time will come soon that she has to make a choice.
Even so, she still left with the Governor after a moment's hesitation.
Later, he thanked her for putting together that meeting. She asked what the terms were, but of course he would never tell her about Michonne, so he just chuckled.
5. The Governor's real plan
Meanwhile, the Governor told Milton the real plan. When Rick arrived with Michonne, they would massacre everyone from the prison, especially Rick, but leave her alive.
He told Milton that this would prevent a slaughter. Milton told him that this was a slaughter. Of course, the Governor meant it wouldn't be a slaughter on their side.
So it would seem that Rick is walking into a trap, but Andrea is still something of an X-factor (as is Merle, for that matter). Will she decide to bring an end to all of this by killing the Governor herself?
It looks like we're in for quite a climax in the three episodes that remain. I wouldn't call this the most exciting episode they've ever done, but it is certainly a setup for the rest of the season.

Love Love Love.
"Hershel joked that he barely knew him, and he should at least buy him a drink first. The list of really funny scenes on "The Walking Dead" is a short one, but this would definitely make the top ten." I don't think that Hershel would have wanted Milton to see the two guns that were strapped to his stump.

brings in the ratings and he is essential to his music business, in this business one can become lonely no matter how many people you have around you..the bottom line is Justin is full of success and personality which is what the public like about him. he is not a hater...he has a ton of haters around him but he is not one....nope!
she is a flat complaining tire.
her personality sucks and she continues to be jealous of Madonna....that's her problem folks...
@Yuli_Tau: The Walking Dead is getting worst in every episode -.-' What is happening? I wanna see more action! Please!!!! #TWD
I recorded and watched it this afternoon. It was a tad bit lame.
Even the old CHIPs show and The Dukes of Hazard was better than this. It's time to get new writers and directors or cancell the program. For true Walking Dead Fans the show has become an embarissment.
I won't. It is crud.
Agreed. TWD has become pathetic. Typical tv craapp.
Everyone on twitter is saying BS. The show just keeps getting dumber and dumber. I really do not know why I continue watching it. The popularity of TWD just shows what a wasteland television has become.
Pure garbage. Rick from last season would have shot the governor. Poor writing. Poor directing. Pure crap
Only 17 post so far. That's more than this episode deserves. No wonder they replaced the producer. This was the worst episode of the series. A total zero.
I agree wif him! ^
to make any type of show you need creativity and balance....the show is the same story day in and day out...
same boring show, same boring script and really a complete yawn to the audience....
the show is stale and lacks spark and the main problem is the source. i have too agree there is no personality in the writing whatsoever and everything is stale. it gets to a certain point in the show where one is not challenged by the scripts any longer and they have to revamp the entire show....i do not feel it will make another season if it does it will be a worse struggle then last season..
because de lub the govenor...and daz da truth....
The town needs to turn on the Gov, then throw him to the walkers!
they all got guns .
Rick would be a complete idiot if he believes a single word that comes out of "The Governor's" mouth. The guy is garbage. And if Rick did decide to turn over Michonne, even if they somehow get out of the massacre alive there is no way Michonne would trust Rick ever again.
So I'd be surprised if Rick agrees to hand over Michonne and actually believes "The Governor" will not try to shoot him and everyone else on the spot in a double cross.
agreed govenor is a liar and piece of garbage. this is a part that is desperate for attention, the show is not scripted we and the show is falling apart very quickly...its been poorly scripted for months now.
Milton may be the wild card for the Governor now.
the one with the gun is hot.
One can only hope that Andrea and the gov get bit and have to have their heads amputated.
loosen up the dopes....
Poor acting and poo story line. Unless it was a dream sequence then Rick was killed off. It'll be nice having Carl in charge. He is young but smart.
I missed the "poo storyline." Was it really about poop, and pooping?
Did you know that "poop" is a palindrome?
Can't wait to see her in the curtain dress.
Agreed. It clearly showed Rick getting shot, cut to commercials, then when it came back on he was all well and back at the prison. What gives?
One of us is in alternate universe...didn't see any episode where Rick got shot!
I thought it was silly. A silly episode. No way Rick would have survived when the governor shot him. Wound was too bad. Fake fake fake.
at what point did the governor shoot him?
I agree w/Henry Hanks, not the most exciting epi, but, I understand about the set up. Andrea is like a "mole" now, which should help Rick & the others. A lot will happens the next 3 shows, I think. Time will tell!
