'Parks and Rec' says 'I do'There were understandably high hopes for the "Parks and Recreation" wedding episode (which we only knew was going to happen for the past week, sneaky NBC). Thursday night's first of two new episodes delivered in every way imaginable. (Ann's decision to have Chris be the father of her baby, momentous as that is, is a discussion for another day.)
The night was meant to serve as a series finale before the producers knew that NBC was picking up more episodes of its fifth season. Thankfully, that didn't happen, but if it had, this would have been a fitting finale as well. Leslie and Ben are one of the best couples on TV, but there are so many other reasons why this episode knocked it out of the park. 1. Leslie's dress While Leslie and Ben scrambled to pull off an 11 p.m. wedding (back-to-back the whole time so they wouldn't see each other), Ann was given the job of finishing Leslie's dress, since the wedding originally wasn't supposed to happen for three months. Ann Perkins being Ann Perkins, the greatest BFF ever, she had the brilliant idea of creating a dress made out of important documents and clippings from Leslie's career. The result was quite impressive. 2. Ron Swanson As you can see above, Ron walked Leslie down the aisle (the show wouldn't have it any other way), and even punched out the obnoxious, drunk Councilman Jamm, Leslie's nemesis, who unfortunately ruined the wedding for the moment. But Ron came through in so many more ways: first, in telling Leslie how he felt about her in a most uncharacteristic way, and secondly, in creating Leslie and Ben's wedding rings. After all, as Ron says, "People who buy things are suckers." 3. Tom as the minister Tom wanted to officiate at the wedding but had to wait 24 hours for his online application to go through. Having the ordained Jerry say the line, "When I heard Leslie was getting married, I was all, 'to Ben or to "Game of Thrones?"'didn't quite work, so Tom was set to do his speech after all as Jerry made it official. When the wedding moved to the parks and rec office - as fitting a place as any - Tom froze up. Instead of delivering a monologue from the Will Smith cinematic classic "Hitch," he said, "Leslie, do you want to say some stuff to Ben now?" (Leslie and Ben's "I love you and I like you" response was terrific by the way.) 4. Chris' gift for Ben But Chris presenting Ben with the documentation that had them assigned to work in Pawnee - something that changed their lives, not for eight weeks, but for three years – stood out as one of the most emotional moments of the episode. 5. Lil' Sebastian And we can't forget that little scamp, who appeared from beyond the grave (actually, it was an officially licensed Lil' Sebastian impersonator) as a sign to Leslie and Ben that they were doing the right thing by getting married that night. Andy wrapped it all up in a bow by rewriting the "Lil' Sebastian" song for the newlyweds. Congrats to the happy couple! What was your favorite part of the wedding episode? A fairly new trend in wedding ring design has risen in popularity over the past few years and it’s based on something that is anything but new. Celtic wedding rings, wedding bands and engagement rings that are designed featuring classic Celtic knot work are adorning more and more matrimonial fingers than ever before, perhaps since the days of the Celts themselves. At one time these rings could only be special ordered from specific companies and were very costly. Today, however, with the rise in popularity of ancient Celtic design, many jewelers are carrying Celtic wedding rings and jewelry of all kinds on a regular basis.^
