With all of the interest surrounding the Carnival Triumph cruise ship drama, we figured we would dip our toe in the water (yep, we went there) and share some of our favorite oceanic films.
From romance to drama (and sometimes both) we've got you covered:
You knew it was coming. The love story between Jack and Rose on the doomed ship reigns supreme as king of the cinema. Fortunately, the Triumph has a much happier ending in sight.
"The Blue Lagoon"
The 1980 film stars Christopher Atkins and Brooke Shields as two kids cast adrift on a tropical island. This one's got lots of love, but not much clothing. Ahh, to be young and in love.
Tom Hanks earned an Oscar nomination in 2000 for his portrayal of a man left on a deserted island after his plane crashes at sea. We thought Wilson the volleyball turned in a pretty good performance also.
"Life of Pi"
Director Ang Lee transformed this best-selling novel into a film. Young "Pi" Patel must battle for his life upon the seas with his companion, a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. The movie is nominated for an Academy Award this year.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl"
This 2003 film set off the franchise and introduced the world to the wit that is Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow. It's pretty rollicking.
