Morrissey pulls out of performances due to ulcer

Some of Morrissey's stateside fans will have to wait to see the singer live, as he's postponed upcoming performances due to a bleeding ulcer, a rep for the singer told CNN.

According to Billboard, Morrissey was hospitalized in Royal Oak, Michigan over the weekend for a suspected bladder infection. He had to cancel a January 24 show in Flint, Michigan, which itself was a rescheduled performance. In October, Morrissey had to pause his trek to spend time with his mother in the hospital.

The singer now has to shuffle his performance calendar once again, as he was diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer after being treated at an area hospital this weekend, his rep said in a statement.

As a result, his upcoming appearances in Asheville, NC; Nashville, TN; Atlanta, GA; Lawrence, KS; Clear Lake, IA; and Lincoln, NE will have to be rescheduled. Those who purchased tickets should hang on to them, as new concert dates should be announced in coming days.

"Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery, and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time," his rep said in a statement. "The tour will resume in Las Vegas on Saturday, February 9 ... Morrissey apologizes greatly for any and all inconvenience and looks forward to continuing his US tour.”

While excessive stomach acid secretion certainly plays a role in the development of ulcers, a relatively recent theory holds that bacterial infection is the primary cause of peptic ulcers. Indeed, research conducted since the mid-1980s has persuasively demonstrated that the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is present in more than 90% of duodenal ulcers and about 80% of stomach ulcers.:^:..

Alternately, people may also use the term bleeding ulcer to refer to a lesion that either perforates (creates a hole in the intestine) or penetrates (creates a hole in the intestine and a nearby organ). Perforation may either fill the abdomen with material from the gastrointestinal tract or it can block another part of the intestine and lead to gastrointestinal obstruction. Penetration may have different symptoms depending upon the related organ that it affects. Symptoms of either of these conditions can include extreme stomach panic, vomiting blood, passing black colored stools, or matter that looks like coffee grounds. If an obstruction is present, people may vomit but usually cannot have bowel movements ::`*
