Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber call for change

In the wake of a traffic accident that took the life of a paparazzo, Miley Cyrus is backing up Justin Bieber's call for legislation.

The 20-year-old singer/actress, who's also frequently captured by paparazzi cameras as she goes about her daily activities, posted on Twitter Tuesday that the death of the photographer who died trying to take pictures of Bieber should be a turning point.

"Hope this paparazzi/JB accident brings on some changes in '13," Cyrus posted Tuesday, the day of the accident. "Paparazzi are dangerous! Wasn't Princess Di enough of a wake up call?!"

The deceased photographer was hit by oncoming traffic on Tuesday when crossing the street after taking photos of the occupants inside Bieber's parked white Ferrari. The 18-year-old pop star wasn't in his vehicle; it was a friend, 19-year-old rapper Lil Twist, who was behind the wheel.

According to a rep, the 19-year-old, whose real name is Christopher Moore, was pulled over for a routine traffic stop and didn't witness the paparazzo being hit by an oncoming SUV truck. Moore was unaware that he was being followed by photographers, and, along with Bieber, has sent his condolences to the family.

"While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim," Bieber said in a statement. "Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves."

Cyrus, for one, is interested in helping that happen.

"It is unfair for anyone to put this on to Justin's conscious as well! This was bound to happen! Your mom teaches u when your a child not to play in the street! The chaos that comes with the paparazzi acting like fools makes it impossible for anyone to make safe choices."

Why is Miley a celebrity? She's a mediocre singer, very mediocre "actress" and not especially pretty. I don't see her "fame" lasting long.

Cannot wait for this semi-talented kid to become just another "once was"; I never hear his music on the radio so have never been able to figure out how he became the big noise he has become; who cares what he thinks, wears, dates? He is rapidly reaching the age where his tween following is going to begin seeing him as an old man and turn their attention to the next younger pretty boy face coming down the line. Justin, you have a long, long way to fall so enjoy your time in the sun; you lack the voice to make yourself a lasting presence in the music field and that's a fact reflected by your shut out by the Grammies.

Any article about Bieber brings out the jealous petty twits. I don't like his music either, but he, at the age of 18, is way more successful than I'll ever be and most of it was self marketing. So, if he begins to fail as a musician he can always go into marketing. You rock on Justin.

It is very sad to watch how children in this culture are pressured into being stars, way before their time. How they are pushed into behaving like miniature adults sickens me.
Not interested in Bieber's message, not interested in Lohan's message either.
As a parent I would rather have a talk with those embeciles that call themselves a parent.
Bieber does not need to stand on a stage while loosing his childhood, and Lohan does not need rehab. That ship has sailed. What those children needed were real parents. What Lohan needed was a real father.

Getting a picture of the car? Hoping you sill shoot who was in it and failing? Reminds me of the episode of Sanford and Son where Fred dipped his handkerchief in an oil spot found on Flip Wilson's parking spot. He was all excited because it was Flip's oil, yet he couold not prove it actually came from his car. Or getting a bit of news from someone's mother's boyfriend's cousin's barber's lawnkeeper. The pap ran into traffic and didn't watch what he was doing, all in the hopes of scoring a few bucks with a pic of a no-talent nobody. The tragedy was entirely avoidable on two counts-1) paying attention on a street and 2) not persuing someone of no note.

It's a vicious cycle. Reader of tabloid magazines want celebrity pics, magazines pay big bucks for them, paparazzi supply the pictures. Everything is done to make a buck.

I truly believe that the time is long over due that just because people are celebrities that everyone's life is at risk because they have to get photgraph to shock the world. I think Justin Beiber said it the best, accurately and eloquently and Miley Cyrus is correct in saying that Princess Diana should have been a wake up call. Just because they are celebrities doesn't mean we have or need to know every little detail of their life...not to mention much of what you see or heard is exagerrated or a down right lie to sell the papers. These photographers, reporters (?) are not only putting the celebs at risk, they are putting the general public at risk as well.

If it wasn't them on the airwaves or in the would indeed be someone else. Actors and singers very rarely believe one word of what they sing or say in any movie or song.....but somehow think they should be taken seriously when something of import happens?? These actors and singers need to realize they are less than others.....not really more. They are the court jesters only there for entertainment.....not for world leadership. In the end....who gives two squats what Miley or Justin think about anything? Screw them both and put them back in the dungeon until needed again.

  42. Time for a Change

This is yet another example of what's dragging this country down. Money and the ongoing efforts to one up the Jones'. NO photo is worth that much money – oe someone's life. More the fool are the companies willing to pay that kind of money. Nowadays, I don't feel there's anything called a "scoop" anymore – within minutes, other news agencies pick up the story, and no one knows or remembers who got the story first, so what's the point in paying that much money for a photo that will soon be all over the internet? Multimillion dollar paychecks for athletes, causing the regular schmo not to be able to afford to take their child to a game. Movie stars paid outrageous amounts of money, causing a family of 4 to pay almost a hundred dollars just to see a movie in a theater. Hundreds of thousands of dollars for a single photograph, causing the photographer to feel the need to risk his life to get the shot? Don't forget the 15 year old starlets getting two thousand dollar purses, former actresses designing a backpack that was almost $40,000 – and it sold out! When will it stop? How did we let our country get to this place? I don't think this is what our forefather's intended. I guess when more people leave this country in an effort to survive financially, than move to this country to make money, THEN people will start to get it.

While what happened to this paparazzi was tragic, let's get real... the paparazzi act very dangerously. $100,000 for a picture is not worth risking your life, at least I don't think so. And has everyone forgotten the Princess Di incident ? I rest my case.

Bieber is not at fault here, the pappi chasing him was. a pure accident. the guy thought he'd get a good shot of the beeb's car, but instead got hit. tragic.

more tragic however, is the strong call from these young celebrities, who want to suppress the freedoms afforded to the press in this country. yes, i know the pappi are mostly dog-crap sniffing fools, and that they pose a small, but relevant threat to the public.

there are already laws to punish those who willingly endanger persons, property and such. these laws need to be enforced.

to restrict the 1st amendment rights of some, leaves open the ability (and probability) that the courts would soon restrict other's first amendment rights.

reality check (aka head up ass), If Princess Diana wasn't being hounded by the paparazzi in France, Prince Harry & William would still have their mother today. The ONLY reason that accident (Diana's) and her death happend was due to the excessive speed used to try and evade the paparazzi. Had the driver, even if he was somewhat intoxicated not been forced to speed to evade the vultures with cameras, the collision in the tunnel most likely would not have occurred, and even if it had (at normal speeds), would not have mangled the car to the extent of killing 3 or the 4 occupants. If the press had kept their distance or shown some respect for her privacy she would still be with us today to be further hounded by the press.

As much as I don't give a crap about what happens to Bieber, that photographer got exactly what he had coming.

There is no need for legislation. When you chose to be in the public eye, then you have to chose what comes with it. Why is it that whenver a lot of stars see somone with a camera thay have to run and try to hide. For goodness say just let them take your picture. There may come a day when you are going to want someone to take your picture and they are not going to be there. They don't argue about the nights that they are making their appearances and getting photographed, they are talking about when they go to the grocery store, get their hair cut, etc. They deserve some privacy just like the rest of us do. I don't really agree with legislation on the issue. People are willing to pay for their photographs, so people will always do it. Its an unfortunate side-effect of fame.

So they don't have the same rights as the rest of us? They shouldn't be allowed to be in public without being harassed? They may have chosen a profession in which they are seen by the masses on a regular basis but they are people and have the same basic rights we all do. Getting blocked in by a bunch of camera wielding papanazis isn't what any of them want. Maybe they should keep the same distance away as they would if it were the president, that would be a good start.

When you're a public figure, you willingly give up reasonable expectation of privacy in a public place. That's why they are called PUBLIC places. Everybody has the right in America to take pictures in any public place. If celebrities don't like it, they can retire from the public eye at any time, get a regular low-paying job like the rest of us, and not have to worry about getting their picture taken.

I'm going to side with it being part of the package. There are great benefits to being famous. There are also some negative aspects. Why should they get all of the benefits and then expect us to coddle them with legislation to protect them from the few negative? I'm poor. That also has some negative aspects, such as an extreme lack of money. Can Congress please pass a law that will fix my lack of money? No? Then these rich people living in the lap of luxury can deal with their stinking paparazzi.

correction: Bieber sends condolences while Miley Cyrus lashes out. Isn't it just like the world to attack when the light shines right at us. When a fellowman falls one shouldn't lash out but show piety and prudence. When a man stumbles, a wise person does not look to add more affliction. Also one moment don't relish, then the next hate the paparazzi -yes love them enough to make changes where everyone is doing their job safely. Miley should only be speaking out for positive changes. Didn't your mother teach you that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all?

Miley, if you want and/or expect people to take you seriously, take the time to proofread what you write.
That said, good luck trying to tackle this problem. As long as fame is a thing in human culture, there will be a market for information related to famous people, as ordinary people seek distractions from their mundane lives. Calling for legislation against the media won't solve the problem. They will just get more creative, and do whatever they have to do to skirt the law and get what they, and by extension, your fans, want.

Well, I just looked it up and they were both alive – but very small children – at the time of Di's death. (Miley was 5, Justin was 3.) The point was that it's an odd reference for Miley to make, to something historical that happened long enough ago that she, personally, is unlikely to remember it. You'd think she'd make a reference to something more recent. But maybe there isn't anything as significant recently to prove her point.

People that i think are important in this world are mostly individuals that you will never hear about that sacrifice for thier families every day of their lives or people you do hear about that layed down their lives to protect others from being shot in the mass shootings. Apparently ypu have a much dimmer view of the world which is afforded to you by people again that have sacrificed much to give you the rights and freedoms to have that dim view.

What? Paparazzi gets the blame for his own death now, just because he's a paparazzi? I am hearing that Miley Cyrus lashed out on tweeter at the paparazzi who was struck by a vehicle and died. Her comment was This was bound to happen! Your mom teaches u when your a child not to play in the street! Boy, that makes my mom hairs on arms stand straight up. Really, well guess what? This is my street view. Using her own words: Your mom teaches u when your a child not to play in the street (in the street; also as in many other places and with many things ). Miley should sit down and zip it. This is an unfair attack on a man doing his job to his best of his ability. Unfortunately,he is dead. Unfortunately the mass is siding with her. Please people don't compare this man's unfortunate death to what happened to princess Di. He was struck while doing his job from a distance. Sad, sad, sad. Princess Di accident was caused by the reckless actions of the chauffeur. It was concluded that the 1999 crash was caused by Paul, who lost control of the car at high speed while drunk. Also he was under the influence of other drugs. So, you can put blame on the paparazzi or can't we also blame the boyfriend who told the chauffeur to pick up speed or the tunnel for being there. Paparazzi's do need to be respectful and keep their distance and isn't this just what this guy was doing in the streets of Los Angeles. Beiber apologizes while Miley lashes out. Isn't it just like the world to attack when the light shines right at us.

Sadly, you don't know your facts. The police told this i d i o t to go back to his car after trying to get too close to it when they stopped it (bieber"s car). He knowingly got out of his car and walked across a highway to get pictures and then when the police told him to get back to his car, he was hit while trying to comply.
As for princess Di, photographers were actually trying to take pictures of the mortally injured Diana instead of offering aid and assistance like any moral human being should have been doing. If she had not been relentlessly hounded by the paparazzi, she still might be alive today. Her driver was reacting to being chased by them when in his altered state, he lost control of the car.
So now let's add some other people who are totally screwed up from these vultures: Lindsay Lohan before she started her downward slide was hit by a paparazzi in his car hounding her same sort of thing with Britney Spears.
When the paparazzi get this close to people, they should be charged with menacing and harassment.
As far as I am concerned, Karma was in play.
Maybe these guys will think a little before letting their greed surpass their common sense.

Paparazzi are right up there with politicians and ambulance-chasing lawyers in the most vile profession category. Entertainers are just that – entertainers. Unless they're in concert, on stage, or performing in some manner, they're just private citizens. We don't need to see them walking their dog, getting coffee, holding hands, or anything else. More importantly, they have the right to not be photographed in their daily lives. There should be laws requiring release forms be signed prior to publishing paparazzi photos.

what a load of b.s. from a kid that screams for attention in front of the fans and media. if he wants to blame anyone he can blame his fans for making it so desirable for photographers to get photos. yes there should be a realistic expectation of privacy but in public there really is none. if he doesn't want to be hounded he needs to quit stealing the spotlight.

Look at it this way please. Photographer is just taking pictures to sell to the media stations. Media wants the photos or video to put on tv or web sites which in turn drives the photographer to take extreme legths to get these pictures. Causing harm to himself and sometimes others. So who is really to blame?? The person or the Gun??

That's called guilt by association. And by that logic we should all be hung for Lincoln's assassination because we live in the country it happened in. Put all the guilt where it truly belongs. In this case it's on the moron that walked into traffic just to take pictures.

It's easy to put hate and blame on the paparazzi, but they are just doing their job. If it wasn't for celebrity blogs, gossip tabloids, and fan sites, there wouldn't be paparazzi. And who reads those celebrity blogs, gossip tabloids, and fan sites? The celebrity's own fans.
If Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber don't want their pictures taken, they should tell their fans to boycott all teen magazines, photo sites, and other media that fuel their popularity.
Public figures willingly give up their expectation of privacy. It's the trade off for being rich and famous. If Miley and Bieber are unhappy with that arrangement, they can retire into obscurity at any time and never worry about having their picture taken.

You can't legislate stupidity, no matter how hard liberals try. The guy taking the photo and subsequently hit by a car violated various existing laws, not the mention common sense.

What we actually need is a common sense law. The law will be if you failed to use common sense then you are responsible for the outcome. In this case the driver of the car would be innocent of any charges and he gets to sue the estate of the guy killed for damages. Why, common sense would dictate that a person should not be standing in a street taking photos and common sense would dictate the street will be free of people except at acceptable crossing areas and the people will only cross when there is no danger from oncoming traffic. This is how society should work, protect the innocent punish the stupid.

You cant legislate anything to protect photographers. This is just an example of the entertainment industry attempting to use a bad situation to make more money. Im sure the legislation they propose will make it illegal for anyone to take there picture in public, with out their expressed written permission, which can be arranged in typical Kardashuian fashion.

Ban the solar system...............Let's just ban stupid people trying to make a quick buck at someone else's expense. It is tragic but it was avoidable. If it is illegal for someone to take your picture and use it to profit then the same rights should apply to celebrities. Looks like they get their lips done at the same place. Justin needs to stay out of the makeup chair. Those plucked eye brows and that 90's hair do make him look like a girl. If he'd just towel dry his hair and stop primping, he might look like a guy. He needs to take a few lessons from other boy stars (or just boys in general) that actually look like boys.

As far as the photographers, if people wouldn't buy their material, then their photos would be worthless. Our society and culture is putting these "celebrities" on their pedistals. So really, it is the fans fault that they are chased like that and don't tell me they don't enjoy it. These people are just people who got a break; there really is nothing special about them.
