Sean Penn: No shame in saying I want loveHe wasn't caught giving the McKayla Maroney special, but Sean Penn sounds pretty unimpressed with Hollywood. While the 52-year-old actor told Esquire magazine that he enjoyed working on his upcoming '40s-era crime drama "Gangster Squad," he sees the overall "standard of aspiration" in Hollywood as being "very low."
"They're just doing a bunch of monkey-f***-rat movies, most actors and actresses," Penn told the magazine in its January issue. "And I blame them just as much as I do the business. I know everybody wants to make some money, everybody's got a modeling contract, everybody's selling jewelry and perfume. I'm blinded by it. Bob Dylan said in an interview one time - somebody asked him, 'Are you really reclusive?' He says, 'No, I'm not reclusive, man. I'm exclusive. Exclusivity is like intimacy." Esquire: The best-dressed men of all time All of which means you shouldn't expect to see Penn in the "consumerist mosh pit" anytime soon - "I'm just not a big-budget kinda guy, you know?" he tells Esquire - but he is willing to create a different kind of intimacy with the public. When it comes to talking about relationships, Penn said he has "no shame in my saying that we all want to be loved by someone," and that when looking back on his own romances, "I don't feel I've ever had that." I admire Sean Penn for telling the truth about Hollywood. There are usually only two or three good movies that come out every year - the others are usually boring or trashy. I used to go see lots of movies back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Now I'm lucky just to see one movie before the Oscars. I'd rather stay home and watch Turner Classic Movies or one of my DVDs of a Bogart or Bette Davis movie.

How Sean Penn can say things like he "doesn't feel he's ever had that." when talking about past relationships. Robin Wright Penn spent years with him and giving up her own career to raise their children. @Lucy...how the Fudge do you know he's not nice?! Have you met him in person and you guys went out on a date or has he lived with you as a roommate or something? Stop believing in everything you read, you hear and watch on TV and spend some energy in the GYM instead.

His wife Robin had two children, how much more invested does he need? She even went back and tried a second time. He needs therapy more than a relationship.
What I suspect is, is that Sean Penn is a pretty needy guy (possibly childhood abandonment and/or abuse issues), and therefore he will be more demanding of his significant other than most. Madonna obviously was a career-oriented woman, and Robin was too probably. I think he needs someone who is very stable psychologically, and someone who will not prioritize her career before him. In a way I think you're right, Tanya - he needs to become more stable himself before he can feel stable in a relationship with a woman. A lot of talk therapy might get him there, if he's willing to open himself up to a therapy he feels comfortable with. But I will also say that American women do have a reputation for being especially selfish and materialistic, because of the social changes and views on appropriate gender roles and marriage. Women– you can't have your cake and eat it too!
If you want love, then you have to treat people better. he comes across as rude, arrogant and just plain mean. I don't care how many people he has helped in Haiti, he is not nice.
